Assiut University Hosts the 8th Conference of the Upper Egypt Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism in Collaboration with the Association of Therapeutic Nutrition Physicians in Assiut.

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the eighth conference of the Upper Egypt Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism was launched on Wednesday, April 16, in cooperation with the Association of Clinical Nutrition Physicians in Assiut, under the supervision of Dr. Osama Al-Asheer, Head of the Clinical Nutrition Unit at the University Children's Hospital, President of the Society, President of the conference, and Dr. Medhat Al-Araby, Vice President of the Society, and Vice President of the conference.

The opening ceremony witnessed a distinguished attendance including Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Gamal Badr, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Hassan Abdel-Latif, former Vice President of New Valley University; Dr. Amany Omar, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Rahman, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Dr. Mohamed Zein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Assiut, along with a group of department heads, leaders and medical professors from various Egyptian and Arab universities, and national research institutes specializing in related fields.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized the university’s commitment to hosting scientific events that contribute to the advancement of academic education and scientific research, particularly in the medical sector. He praised the high standard of the conference, which features 23 specialized workshops covering the latest developments in clinical nutrition. He noted that these fields are a national priority, with presidential initiatives and national efforts being directed toward tackling issues such as obesity, short stature, anemia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and endocrine disorders in both children and adults.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla stressed the importance of raising awareness about proper nutrition among children and adults, due to  its role in enhancing immunity and preventing diseases, praising the scientific and human resources, which position it as a leader in the fields of clinical nutrition and metabolic disorder treatment.

Dr. Amany Omar expressed her happiness with the wide participation of professors and doctors of clinical nutrition from various Egyptian universities and institutes, and praised the clinical  nutrition diploma adopted by the Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University, stressing that its graduates achieve a tangible impact in improving the quality of medical services within the governorate's hospitals, which has a positive impact on public health across the governorate.

Dr. Mohamed Zein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, thanked the Clinical Nutrition Unit at the Department of Pediatrics and the management of the association for their role in raising awareness of the importance of this specialty, stressing the growing  cooperation between doctors of different specialties and clinical nutrition doctors to achieve the best results in the treatment of patients.

In his speech, Dr. Osama Al-Asheer expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the conference, including supporters and participants. He commended Assiut University for hosting this scientific event, describing it as a beacon of science and culture in Upper Egypt, noting that the conference will honor a number of university leaders, the Faculty of Medicine, participating medical associations and societies, as well as leading medical figures in participating universities and institutes during its activities.

Dr. Medhat El-Araby explained that the conference’s activities will take place at Assiut University on April 16 and 17, and will continue in Hurghada from April 30 to May 3, with the participation of specialists in the fields of clinical nutrition, diabetes in children and adults, pediatrics, public health, dermatology, and plastic surgery from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Belgium.

"Total Quality Management in higher education institutions" is the focus of a training course at Assiut University

- Dr. El-Minshawy: quality is a necessity to ensure the continuity of educational institutions and keep pace with global development

Under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the quality assurance and qualification Center for accreditation organized, on Wednesday, April 16, a training course entitled "Total Quality Management in higher education institutions", in the discussion Hall on the first floor upstairs in the administrative building of the University.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that this course comes within the framework of the University's continuous efforts to consolidate the culture of quality and institutional excellence, and improve the level of academic and administrative performance in all its colleges and units, pointing out that quality is no longer an option but has become an imperative necessity to ensure the continuity of educational institutions and keep pace with global developments. He also explained that the university pays great attention to the qualification of its cadres on the concepts of quality and its applications, believing that the real institutional development starts from within and is based on solid scientific foundations.

This course is part of a series of training programs organized by the quality assurance and qualification Center for accreditation at Assiut University, based on the University's belief in the importance of spreading the culture of quality and providing its employees with sufficient knowledge about quality systems and requirements, and standards of institutional excellence.

The training course was held under the supervision of Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Ismail, director of the quality assurance and qualification Center for accreditation, Dr. Amani Al-Sharif, deputy director of the center, and Mr. Jamal Al-Din Abdul Hafeez, managing director of the center. During the lecture, Dr. Fatima Rushdi Mohammed, vice dean of the College of Nursing for education and student affairs, lectured with the participation of a selection of faculty members, their assistants, university staff and University Hospitals.

During her lecture, Dr. Fatima Rushdi addressed a number of key topics, including: the importance of quality in education, the definition of Total Quality Management in higher education institutions, the principles on which it is based, and the reasons for the growing interest in its application in universities. She also reviewed the advantages and considerations of applying total quality in Egyptian universities, the priorities of its implementation, the strategic dimensions of Quality Management in the higher education sector, in addition to quality assurance and accreditation, the axes of applying total quality within colleges, the role of the student from a quality perspective, as well as the competencies of the University professor in this context.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated a number of comprehensive development and modernization projects at the South Egypt Oncology Institute, with a total cost exceeding EGP 28 million. The projects included the opening of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Interventional Radiology Units in the Diagnostic Radiology Department, in addition to the replacement and renovation for the institute’s Private Treatment Department.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mohamed Abuelmaged, Dean of the South Egypt Oncology Institute; Dr. Amr Farouk Murad, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Hosny Badrawy, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Haitham Sami Atta, Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Department; Dr. Alaa Al-Zohary, Deputy Director of the Oncology Hospital for Private Medical Services; Dr. Ali Mahran, Member of the Health and Population Committee at the Senate; and Mr. Shawkat Saber, Secretary General of the University,in addition to a group of department heads and faculty members at the institute.

Dr. El-Minshawy emphasized that these inaugurations represent a pivotal step toward enhancing the efficiency of the university’s healthcare system and improving the quality of medical services provided to cancer patients. He added that the MRI unit, which cost EGP 20 million, marks a qualitative leap in diagnostic capabilities , as it contains a modern device that allows accurate and high-quality imaging of various organs of the body, which contributes to the early and accurate detection of tumors.

The university president also pointed out that the Interventional Radiology Unit, established at a cost of EGP 2 million, enhances the institute’s ability in providing non-surgical treatment techniques for cases of liver and pancreatic tumors, through modern technologies such as nanotechnology, microwave and thermal frequency, which is in line with the latest international standards in this specialty.

Regarding the renovation of the Private Treatment Department, Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the project cost exceeded EGP 6 million and involved a comprehensive development of the infrastructure—including electrical systems, sanitation, and air conditioning, along with the modernization of patient rooms and installation of new medical beds and equipment, all in accordance with quality and patient comfort standards.

Dr. Mohamed Abuelmaged, dean of the institute, added that the opening of these units represents a strategic shift in the history of the institute and enhances its role as a leading specialized medical institution in Upper Egypt. He added that the special treatment department, which included the development work, includes three main floors, namely the fourth, fifth and sixth floors, where the fourth and fifth floors each contain 18 rooms with 36 beds per floor, while the sixth floor includes 12 rooms with 24 beds.

The Dean expressed deep appreciation for the university’s unwavering support and the visionary leadership of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, who is committed to advancing the healthcare sector and elevating the standard of treatment services. He pointed out that these achievements reflect the university’s dedication to serving the community and providing an advanced therapeutic and academic environment worthy of its leading position.

Assiut University organizes an awareness seminar entitled "online betting and gambling and their risks to social security" in cooperation with Sphinx University

Under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the Center for monitoring and studying community problems affiliated to the community service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector organized an awareness seminar entitled "online betting and gambling and their risks to social security", in partnership with Sphinx University of New Assiut, in cooperation with Al-Azhar University, Assiut branch, Assiut international Technological University, Assiut new Technological University and Badr private university, Assiut branch.

 

The seminar came under the supervision of Dr. Mansour Kabash, president of Sphinx private university, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim, vice president of Assiut University for community service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Kamal Temple, director of the Center for monitoring and studying community problems, and Dr. Asma Jaber Mehran, deputy director of the center.

 

During his speech, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed the importance of addressing societal issues, stressing that online betting and gambling represent one of the dangerous phenomena that targets multiple groups, especially young people, because of their negative effects that threaten values, morals and psychological and social stability. He also called for concerted efforts among educational, religious and security institutions to raise awareness of society and enact the necessary legislation to confront this phenomenon, in order to achieve the goals of comprehensive and sustainable development.

 

For his side, Prof. Dr. Mansour Kabbash pointed out that online betting and gambling are one of the fastest spreading phenomena, luring young people with illusions of quick profit, despite the serious risks they carry that threaten community security and deviate from religious teachings and established cultural values.

 

Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim explained that the seminar came with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers of electronic betting, and reviewed practical models of these practices, in addition to providing tips and guidance on how to reduce their spread, stressing the University's commitment to its role in supporting activities that contribute to raising students ' awareness and immunizing them against digital risks.

 

Dr. Ali Kamal temple thanked the university administration for its continuous support to the cultural and intellectual awareness efforts of students.

 

During the seminar, engineer Ayman Ayad, director of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) at Assiut University, presented a lecture entitled "The risks of online betting and gambling", followed by a dialogue session on the negative societal effects of this phenomenon moderated by Dr. Husseini Hammad, coordinator of community participation and Human Rights at Al-Azhar University branch in Assiut. 

 

Dr. Asma Jaber Mehran also reviewed the recommendations issued by the seminar, which included the importance of launching comprehensive community awareness campaigns, activating deterrent laws, establishing a competent authority to monitor digital gambling activities, in addition to encouraging technology companies to develop solutions to limit access to these sites, establishing programs for psychological and social support for those affected, as well as activating the role of the family in monitoring and follow-up.

 

The seminar was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Shiha, vice-president of Sphinx University, Dr. Husseini Hammad, engineer Ayman Ayad, Professor Mahmoud Bakhit, secretary general of Sphinx University, along with a number of deans and vice-deans of Colleges, faculty members, auxiliary bodies, and a crowd of students from participating universities.

  Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, inaugurated on Sunday, April 13, the second phase of the training program for university administrative staff in the field of governance and anti-corruption, in cooperation with the National Anti-Corruption Academy and the Administrative Control Authority.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by Major General Sherif Ramzi, head of the administrative control office in Assiut, Colonel Fouad Darwish, representative of the National Anti-Corruption Academy, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Adawi, advisor to the president of the University for alumni affairs, entrepreneurship and innovation and director of the Center for future studies, and professor Shawkat saber, secretary general of the University. About 75 trainees from the administrative staff are participating in the program.

 

The program's activities will be held from April 13 to 15, and lectures will be presented by a number of experts and academics from the National Anti-Corruption Academy, organized by Dr. Mustafa Morsi, coordinator of the National Academy at the University.

 

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. El-Minshawy praised the fruitful cooperation between Assiut University, the Administrative Control Authority and the National Anti-Corruption Academy, which in turn contributes to strengthening joint efforts to combat corruption and consolidate the concepts of governance, integrity and transparency, which are areas of critical impact on the present and future of our country.

 

The president of Assiut University stressed that the training program represents an important additional step towards strengthening these efforts, building the capabilities of employees to confront corruption, through modern tools for effective governance, and enhancing self-control in the work environment. He explained that the fight against corruption has become a social and national responsibility that goes beyond the supervisory or executive role, to become an institutional and individual culture and behavior that should deepen in all our institutions. 

 

Dr. El-Minshawy continued, saying that the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, is witnessing a major modernization process in all sectors, stressing that no development process can succeed without a decisive and real confrontation of all forms of corruption.

 

Dr. El-Minshawy pointed to Assiut University's keenness to support the state's vision to combat corruption, as it was one of the first Egyptian universities to apply financial inclusion and digital transformation systems in electronic payment and collection, which directly contributed to reducing the opportunities for financial manipulation and increasing the level of transparency.

 

He also stressed the importance of spreading awareness and a culture of integrity among all university employees, whether employees or students. The university has held training programs, organized student initiatives, and awareness-raising activities aimed at building a university environment based on values and responsibility, and enhancing the spirit of commitment to transparency and integrity.

 

For his part, Major General Sherif Ramzy praised the role of Assiut University for enlightenment and education, as a center for scientific, cultural and civilizational radiation in the heart of Upper Egypt, explaining the role of regulatory work, the most prominent tasks of the authority, and the crimes that the authority specializes in controlling, noting the activity of the National Anti-Corruption Academy, and the role of its experts in providing knowledge and training services to the Egyptian society.

 

 The head of the administrative control office in Assiut also pointed to the main goal of participating in these important events, which is to work on developing the idea of combating corruption, raising awareness of issues related to preventing and combating it in all institutions, and supporting trust between community members and the Administrative Control Authority, as an important step towards removing barriers between security agencies and citizens, thanking the governance team at the University for their close cooperation with the authority in organizing these enlightened events.

 

For his side, Colonel Fouad Darwish expressed his happiness to participate in the activities of the training program, which at this stage provides a large amount of diverse experiences and knowledge in this field, explaining that anti-corruption training earns the trainee new patterns and methods of work, through identifying forms of corruption, tools to combat it, the efforts of the Egyptian state in strengthening the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, in addition to the impact of corruption on national security, and ethics of dealing within institutions in accordance with Egypt's vision ٢٠٣٠.

 

Dr. Mohamed Adawi praised the distinguished cooperation between the University led by Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, the Administrative Control Authority in Assiut, and the National Academy for combating corruption, which resulted in a series of distinctive events and activities organized by the University with the aim of deepening comprehensive and sustainable development policies, supporting the general orientation of the Egyptian state in its comprehensive fight against corruption, and establishing the principles of transparency and integrity.

 

The director of the Center for future studies added that the university organized a series of training programs for all its employees in the field of governance and anti-corruption, where (150) a student from various faculties of the university was trained, and(150) a faculty member, and today the second batch of staff training is starting, bringing the total number to (150) an intern. He also pointed out that the university students are currently preparing to launch a simulation model of the conference of the states parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, in its initial version for the academic year 2025. This is a new privilege of the University in this field.

 

Dr. Mostafa Morsi pointed to the impact of the fight against corruption on all members of society, and its role in guiding the individual towards defending rights and assuming responsibilities and duties. He added that from this point of view, the university was keen to implement the objectives of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2023/ 2030 including the training of university members of the faculty, staff and students to address this phenomenon in all its forms.

 

It is worth mentioning that the training program includes a number of important lectures in the field of anti-corruption, where the first day deals with topics about the Administrative Control Authority and the Egyptian state's information infrastructure project, and the second day deals with lectures on the vision of Egypt 2030, corruption and national security, and the third day discusses governance in the face of corruption, management and business ethics.

El-Minshawy praised the role of the Administrative Control Authority in enhancing transparency, stressing the University's commitment to implement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2023-2030, while the guests expressed their aspiration for further cooperation with the University in spreading the culture of integrity and combating corruption.

Assiut University organizes an introductory meeting with the "media Egypt summit" competition for innovation and entrepreneurship

Under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the university is organizing on Monday, April 14, an introductory meeting of the "media Egypt summit" competition for innovation and entrepreneurship, launched by the fund for the care of innovators and springs of the Ministry of higher education and scientific research, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Mohammed Rafat Mahmoud in the administrative building of the University.

 

  The meeting will be held under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla, vice president of the University for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Director General of the General Administration of student welfare, and Mr. Mohammed Juma, director of the arts department at the Department.

 

    Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the competition aims to spread the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, and enable students to acquire new skills and knowledge that qualify them for distinguished career paths in the fields of media, arts and culture, in addition to promoting dialogue and exchange of visions among young people, which contributes to building an integrated knowledge society.

 

The president of Assiut University also pointed out the University's keenness to provide a stimulating environment that encourages innovation and build a new generation of young competencies capable of contributing to development and meeting challenges with modern scientific methods.

 

  Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla explained that the competition is a special opportunity for ambitious young people to highlight their talents and skills, and to contribute effectively to enriching and developing the Egyptian cultural and media scene. He pointed out that the competition also aims to highlight the efforts of innovators and entrepreneurs, as well as the institutions supporting them, by honoring their works and turning them into creative ideas and projects that can be implemented and supported.

 

The competition tracks are divided into two main areas that allow students to express their ideas and talents, namely: short filmmaking, which includes documentaries, short feature films, animation films, and digital media, including digital journalism (such as a press site and Digital Magazine), Digital Advertising (Reels), talk shows, and integrated marketing campaigns, in order to enable participants to submit creative content reflecting their abilities in the fields of media, arts, and culture.

Assiut University organizes a seminar entitled "etiquette of dealing with people with disabilities" in cooperation with the National Council for people with disabilities 

Assiut University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the university, organized an awareness seminar entitled "etiquette of dealing with people with disabilities", on Thursday, April 10, at the end of a series of awareness activities that lasted for three days, in cooperation with the National Council for persons with disabilities of the Council of ministers, within the framework of an initiative aimed at spreading community awareness of disability issues within Egyptian universities.

 

The events were held under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla, vice president of the University for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Umniah Abdulkader, director of the Center for students with disabilities, and Dr. Jamal Al-Sawy, managing director of the center.

 

  The seminar witnessed a remarkable presence of faculty members, administrative staff, university students with disabilities and others, confirming the University's commitment to supporting the concept of community integration and providing an inclusive educational environment.

 

  Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy praised the level of activities and workshops that have been implemented over the past days in cooperation with the Ministry of higher education and the National Council for persons with disabilities, stressing the University's continued keenness to support and empower its students of determination through the diversity of services provided to them, and the provision of training programs that prepare them for active participation in society.

 

  For his side, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla expressed his appreciation to the experts and lecturers from the National Council, noting the University's commitment to organizing continuous awareness and community events through the Center for students with disabilities care, with the aim of introducing the rights of people with disabilities and integrating them into academic and research activities in cooperation with the concerned authorities.

 

  Dr. Umniah Abdulkader also explained that the workshop addressed the different types of disabilities, whether motor, sensory, mental or psychological, explaining their causes and classifications, in addition to reviewing the state's efforts in the field of accessibility and empowerment within educational, health and commercial institutions.

 

  The seminar was presented by Dr. Yasmin Saad Matar, an expert at the National Council for persons with disabilities, where she discussed modern concepts in the field of disability, integration mechanisms, etiquette of dealing with people with disabilities, which is based on respect for privacy, the importance of visual communication with people with hearing disabilities, and notifying people with visual disabilities of the presence of others.

 

  At the end of the events, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla handed over certificates of appreciation to the participants in the workshops, in honor of their effective contribution to the success of the initiative and spreading awareness of disability issues on campus.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, praised the historic visit made by Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, prime minister, to Assiut Governorate, stressing that it is not just an inspection tour, but it was a strong national message confirming that the development of Upper Egypt has become at the forefront of the priorities of the Egyptian state, and clearly embodies the philosophy of the New Republic in field work and comprehensive development.

 

Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the visit reflected a new spirit in government performance, characterized by an active field presence and integration between various state agencies, under the tireless leadership of Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, governor of Assiut, and with a high-level ministerial presence, which included: Dr. Khalid Abdul Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, Minister of Health and population, Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of social solidarity, and engineer Sherif Al-sherini, Minister of Housing and utilities and urban communities, Mr. Alaeddin Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and land reclamation, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Latif, Minister of education and technical education, and Major General Majid Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of transport.

 

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy said: "this visit reflected that the government is not following up from the offices, but working on the ground with a beating heart, listening, moving, and accomplishing . This is the essence of the positive discipline we are talking about: commitment, transparency, and a genuine will to change. Dr. El-Minshawy added that the prime minister's visit was not traditional, but it was a dynamic tour that included all sectors of life. It began with the opening of the upper manqbad bridge, a vital and long-awaited project, to make a qualitative leap in the fluidity of movement north of Assiut city and connect neighborhoods and centers, contributing to reducing traffic pressure and improving the quality of daily life.

 

The highlight of the visit was the presence of the humanitarian dimension in all its details, where Dr. Mustafa Madbouly witnessed the delivery of 22 electric wheelchairs for people of determination, in a humanitarian gesture that embodies the state's commitment to empower the most needy groups. The talent of the child "King Abdullah" was also the surprise of the visit, after she dazzled the audience with her singing, and the Ministry of culture adopted her talent, confirming the state's support for the young energies in the heart of Upper Egypt.

 

In the health sector, the visit was a strong boost for the medical care system, as the prime minister inspected the Ophthalmic Hospital in Assiut, as part of the glaucoma early detection initiative, one of the most prominent presidential initiatives in the field of eye health. He also visited Manflot Central Hospital and Abu tij specialized hospital, and was briefed on the development of emergency departments, intensive care and nurseries, reflecting the state's interest in enhancing the efficiency of treatment services, especially in rural and remote areas.

 

In the field of education, the most prominent stop was the visit of Ahmed deifullah International School of Applied Technology, which represents a qualitative leap in technical education, in partnership with the private sector in the fields of artificial intelligence and technology. The tour also witnessed a visit to Assiut decorative secondary school, where students were creative in displaying their artistic products, in a scene that embodies the convergence between talent, education and production.

 

In the water sector, the prime minister inspected the Czech filtered water plant in the eastern neighborhood of Assiut, which is one of the main pillars in improving water services, especially for high-altitude areas. The visit also included the first artesian water well in Assiut since the reign of King Farouk, which is currently being restored to become a heritage and awareness landmark, in addition to following up the work of the central drinking water laboratory, which is a pivotal Center for quality control.

 

The livestock station in Al-Hamam village in Abnub center had a remarkable presence as part of the tour, where officials reviewed efforts to enhance animal production and achieve local food security. The program also included an inspection of the Assiut – derout Agricultural Road duplication project, which contributes to improving transport traffic and facilitating trade exchange between villages and centers.

 

In addition to the state's vision of economic empowerment, the prime minister inspected a live model of the "Your Profession Is Your Future" initiative, through a mobile training car equipped with the latest equipment, to train young people and qualify them for the labor market, in a step that reflects the state's orientation towards investing in people and skills.

 

   Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that Assiut University plays a pivotal role as a key partner in the development process. Through its academic and research programs, the university promotes innovation and the skills necessary to build a generation capable of keeping up with developments, and also contributes to development projects that support the local economy and achieve sustainable development.

 

 Dr. El-Minshawy also explained that the role of the university is embodied in its specialized research centers in various development fields, as well as its active participation in developing the skills of young people and qualifying them for the labor market, in line with the vision of the state in building the New Republic and achieving comprehensive development of the upper level.

Assiut University organizes an awareness seminar on protecting the Nile River and promoting sustainability in cooperation with "CEMEX" and "ferry Nile"

Assiut University organized, on Wednesday, April 9, an awareness seminar entitled "a step towards protecting the Nile River and supporting the local community in order to promote sustainability", under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abdulalim, vice president of the University for community service and environmental development, in cooperation with Assiut cement company (Cemex) and the "ferry Nile" environmental initiative.

The seminar was attended by Mr. Ibrahim Saad, director of public relations and community impact at Assiut cement company "Cemex", Mr. Hani Fawzi, director of the project to improve the conditions of fishermen and managing member of the "ferry Nile" initiative, Ms. Hana Tohami, director of partnerships and awareness of"ferry Nile", Ms. Iman Anwar, Director of the "ferry Nile" branch in Assiut Governorate, along with a number of deans and undersecretaries of Colleges, faculty members, those interested in the environmental field, and university students from various the seminar was presented by Mr. Mohammed Juma, director of the arts department at the General Administration for student welfare.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, stressed that the organization of this seminar comes within the framework of the University's commitment to its social and Environmental Responsibility, and its keenness to promote awareness of sustainability issues and the protection of natural resources, especially the Nile River, which is the lifeline of Egypt. He also pointed out that cooperation with partners from the private sector and civil society, such as the Assiut cement company (Cemex) and the "ferry Nile" initiative, reflects the University's vision to build effective partnerships that serve the Sustainable Development Goals.

For his side, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abdulalim, vice president of Assiut University, explained that Assiut University pays great attention to the file of sustainable development, and seeks to deepen its partnerships with targeted environmental initiatives, pointing out that awareness and environmental education are the basis for achieving tangible and sustainable results in the long term.

In the same context, Mr. Ibrahim Saad pointed out that the partnership with Assiut University is a strategic partnership aimed at supporting and qualifying students for the labor market, pointing out that the seminar activities included practical activities, most notably a campaign to clean the Nile River in Basra village in Assiut governorate, to raise environmental awareness among youth and the local community.

Professor Hana Tohami also spoke about the "ferry Nile" initiative, which was launched in 2018 under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, and aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to clean the Nile river of marine waste, as well as recycling waste in cooperation with local partners, in support of the "get green" initiative launched by His Excellency the president of the Republic to raise environmental awareness.

She pointed to the project launched by the initiative five years ago to improve the conditions of fishermen on the island of qarqaya, which has so far included about 250 fishermen in the governorates of Giza, Cairo, Assiut, and Sohag, where fishermen participate in collecting and recycling waste from the Nile in partnership with multiple parties.

 She stressed the vital role of women in protecting the environment, noting that the initiative supports the economic empowerment of women through plastic recycling workshops, which produce high-quality products marketed locally and internationally.
