Management of high-energy tibial plateau fractures by Ilizarov external fixator

Research Abstract
Abstract Background Despite the evolution of surgical techniques and implants, high energy tibial plateau fractures remain a challenging problem. The goals of treatment are to obtain a well-aligned stable joint with a painless functional range of motion and prevention of posttraumatic arthritis. Indirect reduction techniques and other soft tissue preservation methods safeguard the vascularity and emphasize restoring both joint congruity and the mechanical axis of the limb. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of ...

ILIZAROV EXTERNAL FIXATOR IN TREATMENT OF NEGLECTED CLUBFOOT IN ADULTS

Research Abstract
ABSTRACT: Introduction: Untreated clubfoot in adults remains a difficult problem to solve by traditional surgical techniques with many complications. This study discusses the use of Ilizarov external fixator in treatment of neglected clubfoot in adults. Patients and Methods: 15 cases of neglected clubfoot in adults were treated by Ilizarov external fixator in Assiut University Hospital between 2005-2007. They were 9 males and 6 females. There age ranged from 16-50 years. They were followed up for an average period of 20 months. The

Joint preservation reconstruction for treatment of recurrent juxtaphyseal upper tibial aneurysmal bone cyst using Ilizarov external fixator

Research Abstract
Background: Aneurysmal bone cyst is a rare destructive nonneoplastic lesion that has the distended appearance of an aneurysm. In this study we describe the treatment of recurrent juxtaphyseal upper tibial aneurysmal bone cyst using the Ilizarov technique. Methods: We present five children with recurrent aneurysmal bone cyst of the upper tibial metaphysis who were treated by acute shortening and lengthening of the distal tibia using Ilizarov distraction osteogenesis. The mean age of patients was 12 years (range 10–15 years). The mean ...

Anterior thoracolumbar locked plate fixation for the treatment of an acute unstable burst fracture of the thoracic and lumbar spine

Research Abstract
Background In unstable burst fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine, short segmental posterior fixation has been associated with a high rate of hardware failure, with recurrence of deformity. Anterior surgical treatment allows direct decompression of the neural elements and reconstruction of the weight-bearing column with fusion of only two levels.

Ilizarov external fixator in treatment of severe recurrent congenital talipes equinovarus

Research Abstract
Abstract Aim Severe recurrent congenital talipes equinovarus deformity remains a significant problem in orthopedic surgery particularly in the developing countries with limited facilities. Surgical treatment of patients with severe recurrent congenital talipes equinovarus is difficult and has many complications. This study discusses the results of using Ilizarov external fixator in treatment of severe recurrent congenital talipes equinovarus deformity. Materials and methods Using gradual distraction applied through the Ilizarov external fixator, 15 ...
