Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, honored, on Monday, July 14, a distinguished elite of university students of determination, in recognition of their honorable achievements by obtaining advanced positions in a number of major events and competitions, most notably: the "Golden talents for people with special abilities" competition in its seventh season, and the"Egyptian universities Paralympics", in addition to the 51st and 52nd martyr Rifai championships.

  This honor came under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula, vice president of the University for education and Student Affairs, and chairman of the board of students with disabilities, and Dr. Umniah Abdulkader, director of the Center for students with disabilities, in the presence of Dr. Madiha Darwish, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and general supervisor of student activities, Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Director General of the General Administration of student welfare, and a number of specialists in the administration, as part of the University's keenness to support and empower its students with disabilities.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy expressed his pride and pride in what the University's people of determination have achieved, stressing that their achievements reflect a strong will and exceptional determination, stressing the University's constant keenness to support this distinguished category, empower it and integrate it into all activities, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership headed by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, which believes in the importance of empowering people of determination as a key pillar in building the New Republic and achieving the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030.

Dr. El-Minshawy also thanked and appreciated all those responsible for caring and supporting university students of determination, stressing that the university continues its efforts towards empowering them and highlighting their energies and abilities as active and influential elements inside and outside the university community.

Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula pointed out that this honor comes as the culmination of a march of effort and sincere work on the part of students, and the fruit of cooperation and integration of efforts between the university administration and the Center for students with disabilities care in creating a supportive environment and stimulating creativity and excellence.

Dr. Omnia Abdulkader explained the superiority of the university students in the "Golden talents" competition organized by the cultural development fund sector at the Ministry of culture, where the student Youssef Hassouna won the first place in religious chanting, the choir team won the second place in group singing, the student Mustafa Kamal won the second place in solo singing, and the student Nour al – Mutassim won the second place in solo singing-the second category.

On the sports level, the results of the 51st martyr al – Rifai Athletics Championship resulted in 16 male and female students winning 28 various medals, including 10 gold medals, 11 silver, 7 bronze, as well as 3 medals in weightlifting (1 Gold-2 silver), within the championship organized by the Egyptian sports federation for universities.

In the 52nd edition of the same championship, 13 male and female students were crowned with 22 medals in athletics, including 4 gold, 5 silver, 13 bronze, as well as two medals in Table Tennis (1 Gold – 1 silver).

As for the Egyptian universities Paralympics organized by the Ministry of youth and sports, 20 students managed to win 20 medals in athletics, table tennis, and weightlifting, including 8 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

It is noteworthy that these distinguished participations were coordinated by Dr. Jamal Al-Sawy, managing director of the Center for students with disabilities, and Dr. Mohammed Yassin, coordinator of activities at the center.

Assiut University received, on Monday morning, July 14, a committee from the Supreme Council of universities, within the framework of following up on the progress of aptitude tests at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, the president of the University.

The committee was received by Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula, vice president of the University for education and student affairs, where the committee included Dr. Tarek Farouk, member of the planning committee of the sports sciences sector, Dr. Ahmed Jibril, Dr. Mahmoud Rajab, members of the ability tests follow-up committee, and Dr. Ayman Abdo Mohammed, professor at the Faculty of sports sciences at Assiut University.

In this context, Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy stressed that aptitude tests are a key stage to ensure the selection of qualified students to enroll in colleges that require special preparations and skills, pointing out the importance of adhering to the instructions and procedures governing these tests, and providing a suitable environment for students during the performance of tests, reflecting the University's keenness to achieve the principle of equal opportunities, and facilitating procedures for applicants to ensure the process runs smoothly and regularly.

For his side, Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula explained that the university is keen to implement all the controls set by the Supreme Council of universities in organizing aptitude tests, with continuous follow-up and field inspection of Test places, to provide full support to students and parents, and to create the appropriate atmosphere to facilitate the application and testing procedures.

It is worth mentioning that the aptitude tests for the academic year 2025/2026 began on July 12, and will continue until the 24th of the same month.

  Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, opened on Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, the open Botanical Garden inside the university campus, which is one of the most prominent environmental and scientific initiatives implemented by the university, as it aims to integrate educational and research aspects with environmental conservation and sustainable development.

  The park project was implemented under the supervision of: Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Alim, vice president of the University for community service and Environmental Development Affairs and chairman of the committee supervising the project, Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sahli, dean of the College of Science and vice chairman of the committee, and Dr. Essam Fadl Abu Zeid, vice dean of the College of Science for community service and Environmental Development Affairs and supervisor of the project.

  Dr. El-Minshawy stressed that the park represents a living Botanical library and a scientific reference for researchers, amateurs and students, and includes about 1864 trees and plants of diverse and rare species, including evergreen trees, palms, fruit trees, medicinal and ornamental plants, in addition to tropical species and huge swallows, which enhances the environmental and aesthetic value of the campus, and supports the University's vision to provide a healthy and sustainable educational environment.

During his tour of the Park, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the park project represents an important step towards documenting the data of plants and trees within the university campus, and supporting specialized scientific research in the fields of Plant Sciences, pointing to its effective role in the conservation of endangered species. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, and promotes the creation of a safe, healthy and sustainable university environment.

Dr. El-Minshawy added that the university is committed to continuing the development of infrastructure in various sectors to be more in line with environmental standards, through the expansion of green spaces, and community awareness of the importance of preserving them, because of their aesthetic value and positive effects on public health and the environment, which enhances the integration of environmental activities within the University's development strategy.

  The opening ceremony was attended by a number of deans, vice deans, faculty members and staff, as well as representatives of the private sector concerned with environmental affairs, students of Al-kid University and their supervisors.

Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sahli explained that the Botanical Garden represents an open knowledge and environmental space, provides a platform for practical education and field research, and also works to spread the culture of interest in plants and biodiversity to the university community.

Dr. Essam Fadl pointed out that the garden is equipped with identification signs for each plant, including the scientific name, variety, plant species, brief information about the benefits and geographical distribution, in addition to the QR Code that can be scanned via a smartphone to obtain detailed information from a specialized electronic page on the University's website.

The committee includes Dr. Abu Bakr Mohammed Al-Tayeb, vice dean of the College of Science for graduate studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Sayed Shehata Abdin, supervisor of the University's gardens administration, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Rahman, assistant professor at the Department of botany at the college, and Dr. Saeed Mustafa Mohammed, assistant professor at the college

  This project is an advanced step towards a green University that prioritizes the preservation of the environment and the use of its resources in the service of Science and society.

Within the framework of the directives of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, to follow up the maintenance and development works within the university facilities, Dr. Ahmed Abdul-Mawla, vice president for education and student affairs, conducted an inspection tour inside the Olympic village to follow up on the progress of work after the development and maintenance work has been completed at its various facilities.

The tour was attended by Dr. Ahmed Salah Qara'a, general supervisor of the Olympic Village, and Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Director General of the Youth Welfare Department.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the university pays great attention to the development of the infrastructure of its sports facilities, in order to ensure the provision of a safe and stimulating sports environment for university students and Olympic Village pioneers from Assiut Governorate, especially in light of the launch of the summer sports season.

Dr. Abdulmoula's tour included inspecting the development works in the covered Hall (1) of the village Stadium, reviewing the dressing rooms and attached bathrooms that have been equipped, as well as following up on the condition of the swimming pool after maintenance work, and the summer trainings that are carried out inside it under the supervision of specialists.

The vice president of the University explained that this visit comes as part of a series of field follow-ups to ensure the quality of performance within the university facilities, praising the updates achieved, and appreciating the efforts of the work teams that contributed to raising the efficiency of facilities and improving the level of services provided to the public.

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Faculty of Specific Education organized an initiative to decorate and beautify the walls of the Pediatric Dialysis Unit at the University Children’s Hospital. The event was held under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Yasmin El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty, in the presence of Dr. Yasser Farouk Abdel Rahim, Director of the University Children’s Hospital, and with the participation of a group of talented students from the Faculty specializing in visual arts.

Dr. El-Minshawy emphasized the university’s commitment to utilizing arts and creative activities in the service of the community. He praised the initiative launched by the Faculty of Specific Education to beautify the dialysis unit at the University Children's Hospital, noting its significant humanitarian and psychological impact in alleviating the suffering of young patients and bringing joy to their hearts. He also affirmed the university’s support for such purposeful activities, which foster students’ sense of belonging and social responsibility and contribute to integrating art into public life to deliver noble educational and humanitarian messages.

Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla, Assiut University Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, explained that organizing such events comes within the framework of the university's strategy to enhance communication between students and society, and to consolidate the values of belonging and volunteering, through their participation in effective humanitarian activities. He praised the outstanding works of art presented by the students of the Faculty of Specific Education, which added an atmosphere of joy and hope, and contributed to creating a positive visual environment that supports the psychological state of sick children.

Dr. Yasmin El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, expressed her pride in the students’ performance and their enthusiastic participation in the initiative. She affirmed the importance of employing the arts to improve quality of life, particularly within healthcare institutions. She also emphasized the Faculty’s dedication to channeling students’ talents into meaningful artistic projects that serve the community and provide psychological support to vulnerable groups.

At the end of the event, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla handed out certificates of appreciation and thanks to the participating students and supervisors, as an expression of the university's appreciation for their outstanding humanitarian and artistic efforts.

  Assiut University witnessed, on Thursday, July 10, the discussion of the graduation project of the fifth batch of the architecture department at the Faculty of Fine Arts for the academic year 2024/2025, which was entitled "design of the International Center for Advanced Sciences and Arts in the new city of Assiut", under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the University, and under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula, vice president for education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Mohammed Helmy Al-Hefnawy, dean of the college.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the university pays great attention to student graduation projects, as a reflection of the level of knowledge and creativity of students, and a practical opportunity to apply their acquired academic and technical skills, pointing out that this year's project is a distinguished model in linking architecture with sustainable development issues, as it aims to create an interactive environment that contributes to enrich the cultural, scientific and artistic movement, and supports the local economy in the new city of Assiut.

The president of the University added that the project represents an ambitious vision that contributes to supporting urban and economic development through the establishment of research and technical institutions and centers that provide job opportunities and open new horizons in the fields of research, education, media, and the arts.

He explained that the number of students participating in the project amounted to 107 students, and their projects were distributed on a set of integrated ideas, most notably: a studio complex for television and film production, an International Center for renewable energy and nanotechnology, a branch of an international museum, and the iconic tower (administrative – hotel – commercial).

Dr. El-Minshawy praised the efforts of students and faculty members, stressing that the university will continue to support all innovative ideas that serve the community and keep pace with the aspirations of the New Republic.

  The discussion was held in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula, vice president of the University for education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Mohammed Helmy Al-Hefnawi, dean of the college and its undersecretary for graduate studies and research and head of the Department of architecture, with the participation of the project supervisors from the faculty members, namely: Dr. Rasha Mazen, Dr. Adham Mokhtar, Dr. Ahmed Hosny, in addition to the assistant faculty of the department, and the presence of the vice deans of the college, faculty members and students.

  For his side, Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula praised the high creative and artistic level shown by the students of the Department of architecture, stressing that the projects they submitted reflect their outstanding abilities and professionalism, stressing the University's keenness to discover and support the talents of its students, and provide a supportive environment that allows them to release their creative energies.

   Dr. Mohamed Helmy Al-Hefnawi thanked and appreciated the university administration for its constant support for all academic and technical activities at the college, and also expressed his pride in the outstanding level provided by the students, pointing out that the graduation projects are a real opportunity to highlight the experience and knowledge gained by students during their years of study, which was clearly shown during the discussions.

Dr. Al-Hefnawi added that this year's project aims to create an exchange environment for knowledge and experiences that contribute to supporting sustainable development and the development of the new city of Assiut through various projects.

At the end of the event, the attendees expressed their admiration for the level of students and the quality of the ideas and designs presented, stressing that this generation of Young Architects is able to make real contributions to the development of the urban landscape in Egypt.

  Assiut University, headed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy, has recently witnessed remarkable breakthroughs at various educational, research, and service levels as part of its efforts to support the National Sustainable Development process and employ its human and material potential to serve the community.

Dr. El-Minshawy stressed that Assiut University prioritizes the launch of Applied Research Projects and initiatives targeting development issues, adhering to international standards of scientific research and working to link research outputs to the needs of the labor market, especially regarding food security issues.

In this context, the university launched the cassava plant cultivation project within the research vegetable farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, which is considered one of the promising economic crops of strategic importance, under the supervision of Dr. Jamal Badr, vice president for graduate studies and research and chairman of the board of Directors of the unit "gluten-free flour and starch extraction from cassava" at the vegetable department farm, Dr. Adel Mohammed Mahmoud, dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Dalia Mahmoud Tantawi, head of the vegetable department and scientific supervisor of the farm, and director of the unit.

Dr. El-Minshawy praised this project, stressing that Assiut University is the first university in Upper Egypt to step towards cassava cultivation, realizing the importance of this crop, and to direct agricultural research towards modern agriculture and increasing production, within the framework of the University's vision towards a sustainable educational productive sector.

Dr. El-Minshawy stressed that cassava cultivation represents a real nucleus for promising development projects aimed at achieving local food sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports, as well as supporting national industries and providing job opportunities for the people of Upper Egypt.

  He pointed out that the university is continuing to support and develop its productive and research farms to enhance its community role and contribute effectively to the Egyptian state's plans to achieve comprehensive sustainable development.

  Dr. Adel Mohammed Mahmoud explained that the research vegetable farm, which has an area of 8 acres, includes many seasonal vegetable crops, and all of them are grown without chemical pesticides, pointing out that cassava is one of the most prominent crops of the farm, known as the crop of the century, due to its high nutritional value, as it is the third most important global source of calories after Rice and corn.

  For her side, Dr. Dalia Tantawi pointed out that the cassava plant is characterized by its ability to grow in difficult climatic conditions, and is also a strategic food alternative to wheat and flour in the production of baked goods, as well as its use in the extraction of adhesives, and the use of its remains as animal feed.

She added that cassava is called the "plant of the poor" because it provides starch-rich tubers suitable for many uses, including the production of flour and bioethanol as an environmentally friendly fuel, as well as its use in various food industries.

In a new step towards maximizing the benefit of this crop, Assiut University opened the unit "extracting gluten-free flour and starch from cassava" at the vegetable department farm.

Dr. Gamal Badr stressed that this unit is the first of its kind at the level of Egyptian universities, specializing in the production of gluten-free cassava flour, making it a healthy and safe food option for food allergy patients, pointing out that the manufacturing stages include washing, peeling, chopping, pressing, drying, grinding and packaging, using the latest technologies compatible with quality standards and food safety.
