Assiut University Celebrates the International Day for Mental Hygiene

Within the framework of a workshop entitled "Mental Hygiene", organized by the Centre for Educational and Psychological Counseling, Faculty of Education, Assiut University celebrated the International Day for Mental Hygiene. The Dean of the Faculty of Education indicated that the workshop coincides with the World celebrations of the World Mental Hygiene normally organized by the WHO on the 10th of October to promote the public awareness of mental hygiene issues. He also indicated that the workshop handled a number of other key themes such as: the impact of mental hygiene on social, economic, biological, and ecological factors. Besides, it also addressed other issues related to psychic disorders and social pressures, poverty indicators and psychic problems, risks of violence and violations of human rights, in addition to analyses of some biological factors causing mental disorders including genetic factors and the imbalance chemical substances in the brain.

Assiut University President and the Chairwoman of the National Council for Woman Inaugurate the First Unit for Resisting Harassment at the University

In his opening speech during the inauguration of the Unit for Resisting Harassment at the Centre for Studies and Research on Human Rights, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, President of Assiut University asserted the university's strong concern to elevate the values, concepts, and all ethical codes which incriminate all forms of violence against women of which harassment comes as a priority. The occasion was honored by the presence of Dr. Maya Morsy, Chairwoman of the National Council for Women, Ms. Nehad Abul-Qumsan, Chairwoman of the Egyptian Centre for Human Rights, Mr. Alexander Bidrosa, representative of United Nation's Fund for Population, Egypt, Ms. Germine Haddad, Director, Woman's Affairs Programs, Mr. Torhog, representative of the Norwegian Embassy, Dr. Shehata Ghareeb, Prof. of Law and Legal Consultant of the Unit, and several other Faculty Members and Deans. In a similar concern, Dr. Gaeis asserted that the University is apt to provide all means of support and encouragement to make the Unit effective in eliminating all forms of abuse and extremities against women to improve the environment and create a secure and safe atmosphere for females not only on Campus but everywhere in the community.

Assiut University Students Visit the Southern Military Region on the Occasion of the October Victory

War-Staff Major General Yehia Taha Al-Hemeily, Commander of the Southern Military Region, Assiut met a delegation of Assiut University students on the occasion of the glorified October Victory celebrations. Dr. Essam Zanaty, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, indicated that the University is keen on elevating the students' awareness and participation with the Egyptian people in their celebrations and expressions of all sorts of recognition and respect for the bravery of the Egyptian Armed Forces and what they did for their country and its protections throughout the various eras in history. More specifically, the military effort has been plain enough during the battles in which the armed forces sacrificed many of their noble sons' souls and the sacred blood. Their effort reached its most amazing, heroic, and great victory on the sixth of October; an epic that is being taught in various military and political institutions worldwide.

Vice-Presidents Meets National Coordinator of the European Union for Higher Education

In attempt to follow up the progress of the projects sponsored by the Union, Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal held a meeting with Dr. Kareem Hamdy, the National Coordinator of the of the Erasmus project. Prof. Al-Gammal acknowledged the effective and distinguished role played by the Union in sponsoring and supporting scientific projects granted to various faculties; a matter that assisted in the accreditation of a number of degrees. In addition to this, the Union helped with its projects in the establishment of a number of educational and research labs, and providing possibilities for dozens of faculty members to travel and attend intensive training programs in developed countries. Besides, one of these sponsored projects granted to the Faculty of Science has been nominated for the best second project offered by Germany. On his part, the National Coordinator of the European Union Program encourages all faculty members to apply for projects in the coming months.

Assiut University President Meets AMIDEAST Officer in-charge of the Educational Scholarships Program

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, has met Ms. Queeny Marie, the Amideast officer in-charge of educational scholarships provided by AMIDEAST, Egypt. Prof. Essam Zenaty, Vice-President for Education and Students affairs, also attended the meeting to follow the progress of the scholarships granted by the Amideast for a number of university students in various faculties. During the meeting, Prof. Gaeis acknowledged the role the Amideast plays in providing study opportunities to academically distinguished students to qualify them for better job opportunities immediately after their graduation. Prof. Zanaty has also admitted that the program provides Egyptian youth to study different majors at US universities in order to achieve their aspirations which will in turn cause Egyptian economy to flourish. He added that the targets intended by the scholarships granted include domains relating to Commerce (English Program), Law (English Program), Science, and Engineering (Mechatronics and Robotics).

Assiut University Signs a Memo of Understanding with the Spanish Antonio de Nebrija University in Fields of Human Sciences and Health

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, indicated the approval of the University Council on signing a memorandum of understanding between the university and the Spanish Antonio de Nebrija University in fields of human sciences and health. Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal, assured that the memo included all aspects of cooperation in research projects of similar concern and establishing a protocol for unlimited exchange of long-term and short-term visits of faculty members and students, exchange of published material and research work in addition to attending seminars, workshops and conferences.

Proceedings of the Second Scientific Conference for Young Researchers Begin at the Faculty of Social Work, Assiut University

The proceedings were attended by Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Ahmed Albereiry, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, Dr. Ragaa Abdul-Kereem, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies, Prof Hamdy Abu-Musaed, Vice Dean for Education and Students' Affairs, and a large number of Faculty Members and Junior staff.

During A Meeting with the Assiut University President, Al-Orman Society Announces the Establishment of A Cardio-Foundation to Support the University Cardic Centre

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, stated that the preparation for the Cardic Centre are approaching the final stages for the centre to start partially within the few coming months. He also stated that the final are being accomplished by the University's Construction Administration. The University president asserted that this centre for the treatment and surgeries of Cardiological problems stands as a huge leap for the health of all Upper Egyptian Provinces. The Centre will pursue Medical Research for the treatment of all critical cases of the region. Dr. Gaeis highly acknowledges the support and contribution of Al-Orman Society in sponsoring the supply of the most recent medical equipments to make the centre one of the esteemed specialized medical institutions.

Master's Degree From British Universities: A Workshop on Chevening Program at Assiut University

In Collaboration with the British Embassy, Assiut University launched the proceedings of the workshop provided by the Chevening Fellowship Program for Distinguished Young Egyptian Researchers to pursue their studies for the Master's Degree . The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President and Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research who assured the importance of this workshop which forms an avenue for exchange of expertise.
