Assiut University Saves a Young Man's Life by the First Marrow Transplant Operation in Upper Egypt at the South Egypt Cancer Institute

Prof. Mustafa El Sharqawy, Dean of the South Egypt Cancer Institute, Assiut University, announced the success of the first marrow transplant operation. The operation managed in saving the life of the 39 years old Abdul Hadi Mohammed Amir, who was suffering from a setback Non Hodgkin's lymphoma after a period of treatment. Prof. Sharqawy asserted the importance of this step considering it a significant medical achievement as it is only the second operation nationwide to be done out of Cairo. This operation was financially sponsored by the university and other donations. Furthermore, the Unit will be expected to do about 50 operations annually.

Assiut University Professor Wins State Award in the Field of
Political Systems

  HE. Helmy El Namnam, Minister of Culture declared Dr. Alaa Abdul Hafeez, Chairman, Dept. of Political Sciences and General Administration and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Winner of the 2015-2016 Incentive State Award in the field of political systems for his 2014 book: Compromise Between Security Considerations and Democratic Practices: The United States Experiment as an Example. Dr. Alaa explained that the book handles the crises of national security which lead to collision between the requirements of security and the requirements of democracy. He indicated that non-democratic political systems give priority to the requirements of national security at the expense of the principles of democratic rule.

Assiut University Pursues the Successful Work of the First Experiment Using Solar Cells Moving in Multiple Directions

After the success of the first attempt working with moving solar cells enabling the supply of enough lighting energy for the Department of Physics, and operating student labs, Prof. Hasan El Hawary declared the intention of the faculty to generalize the experiment and use the moving solar cells throughout the entire buildings, departments, labs, classrooms, and amphitheatres of the Faculty. He assured the support they have from Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President and Prof. Mohamed Abdul-Latif, Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development.

Increase of scholarships and opportunities of English Language Learning: Main aim of the meeting between Assiut University President and The British Ambassador in Cairo

Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President met John Casson, the British Ambassador in Cairo today during the latter's visit to the university. The Ambassador and the president discussed possible means of cooperation and exchange of scientific projects between the two parties. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Abdul- Latif, Vice president for Community service, Dr. Tarek Al-Gammal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Lamiaa Al Meleegy, Director of Joint Arab programs, British Embassy, and Nahla Zaytoon, Societal Protection Specialtist, Middle East and North Africa Regions, International Bank. The meeting focused on the possibility of increasing British scholarships granted to Assiut University scholars in various fields. The Ambassador revealed a positive response regarding Assiut University President's request for supporting the branch of the British Cultural Center in Assiut University to offer better opportunities for English Language Learners at various levels and on a regular basis.

Assiut University Celebrates the International Day for Environment by planting 200 Fruitful Trees

Assiut University inaugurated the celebration proceedings of the International Day of Environment organized by the Community Service Sector in collaboration with the Governorate Environment Affairs Agency. The proceedings included planting about 200 fruit trees. Dr. Thabet Abdul- Monem assured that the process includes planting four different types of seedlings of Pomegranate trees, orange trees, tangerine trees and lemon trees. Further, as part of the university's role in the community service, the sector aims at decorating various areas in the university.

Assiut University President is Back from Spain After Participating in The Third Arab Conference on Higher Education

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, is now back from Spain after participating in the proceedings of the Third Arab Conference on Higher Education. The conference was held by Barcelona University and hosted about 300 university presidents of Arab and European Universities. Organized by the Arab Universities Union in collaboration with the European Universities Union, the conference  focused on "The Challenges and Opportunities facing Arab and European Universities in the Achievement of their Social Missions." The conference included a keynote speech by HE Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ashraf Al-Sheehy whose speech is considered a sign of the outstanding role played by Egypt and Egyptian Universities among World Universities.

Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Assiut University Wins the Best Research Award in an International Conference in the USA

Dr. Hassan Lotfi Fahmy, Prof. and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University won the best research Prize for a his research on the use of a new technique for the treatment of cataracts.  Dr. Fahmy's paper was selected out of 800 research works on the same issue in the conference of the American Society for cataract and corneal refractive defects surgeries held in New Orleans, USA. This technique, Dr. Fahmy says, is based on the use of eye-drops for the treatment of cataracts in their early phases as a substitute for surgeries. He added that the eye-drops has already been manufactured in the Scientific Center of Distinction, Faculty of Science by the use of nano-technology under the supervision of Prof. Nagwa Abul-Maali, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science, Assiut University.
