Dr. Mansour Al-Mansi, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Assiut University, reported the arrival of the delegation of students and faculty members who participated in the First carving Symposium held in Damietta from Nov.18 – Dec.2, 2017. Dr. Mansi added that this is considered the first participation of the Faculty outside the University and despite the recent history of the faculty, their participation won a high claim, admiration, and praise by those who were in charge of the symposium. The carving works submitted in the symposium were all target to developing a number of squares in Ras El-Bar in a way that suits its tourist value. The works included were based on materials such as iron, granite, and stones.

Candidate: Amr Hassan Ibrahim Abu-Feddan, Assistant Lecturer, Urology Department, submitted his Doctoral Dissertation: "A Comparative Study of the Different Types of Surgeries for radical Prostatectomy." Dr. Amr Feddan assured that this is the first Dissertation in Upper Egypt to focus on DaVinci's Surgical System to undertake cancer surgeries, especially prostate cancer. He added that the daVinci system, powered by robotic technology, enables surgeons to perform complicated operations easily including the eradication of tumors, and prostate cancer in particular as it is one of the most common tumors.

The Famous Sheikh and expert of Islamic movements, Dr. Nageh Ibrahim denies what ISIS approaches on the blessed territory of Sinai; the land of Messengers and Prophets, the spot which has long been a significant station in the history of all heavenly religions. Dr. Ibrahim assured that these ISIS men do not follow any doctrine or religion for they committed the most savage acts and crimes on top of them all murdering innocents people while performing the prayers at the Bir El-Abd Mosque.

Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, met a delegation from the French Center headed by Dr. Noha A. Rizq, Director of the Centre. Dr. Rizq indicated that the delegation meets the president to offer him a catalog of the University in French Language on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the university. She added that the catalog is prepared by students as part of their activity and it includes information about the university, its foundation, vision, and educational role. It also provides a note about the previous presidents of the university, and the previous regional campuses which later became separate universities.

In collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna University, Austria, Assiut University held an enlarged workshop organized by the Molecular Biology Unit and lasted for three days. The workshop was concerned with the implantation of mammal tissues and their usage in research. Besides, the workshop included a number of lectures and practical lessons on all medical fields; medicine, veterinary medicine, science, and pharmaceutical fields. The workshop emphasized the scientific endeavor to prove that the usage of implanting and usage of tissues are far better than using experimental animals.

Assiut University President opened the Laboratory for Kinetic Analysis and Sports Physiology at the Faculty of Physical Education. Dr. Tarek Faouq, Chairman of the department of Sports Training and Kinetic Sciences, and Lab Supervisor indicated that this lab is the first of its kind nationwide. He added that the lab was equipped by a German grant and this comes out of the fruitful cooperation between the Faculty of Physical Education and the German Magedberg University.  

Assiut University witnessed the opening of the first French Book Fair organized by the French Center in collaboration with La Maison and Sphinx Publishing House. Dr Noha Rizq, Director of the French Center stated that this is the first book fair to include more than 1000 French books covering a wide range of specialties such as: legal terminology, economics, engineering, philosophy, novels, plays, literature, French culture, general French courses, and dictionaries.

Dr. Mostafa Al-Sharqawi, Dean of the South Egypt Cancer Institute, Assiut University stated that Assiut University Council, headed by Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, approved the coordination between Assiut University and Wafaa Foundation to implement the program of mechanization of work at the oncology hospital and linking it to the National Network. This programs comes as part of the Institutes cooperation with all possible Institutions; governmental or non-governmental to improve the medical and health services provided annually to more than 40 thousand patients from all Upper-Egyptian Provinces.

Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, announced the success of two new Liver implants at Al-Rajhi University Hospital. He added that this is an addition to the previous success of the hospital in the medical services provided to Upper Egyptian patients

The Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University held the second scientific seminar in collaboration with KoreaTech about "Increasing Research and Educational Capabilities in Assiut University by the Use of Advanced Technology." The Faculty Dean surveyed the accomplishment of the second stage of the project and the completion and preparation of the Electric Power Lab and the Internal Combustion Lab to be ready for use in the next stage. Similarly, the dean added, the second stage included the training of 30 students at LG company, 10 Ramadan City, and Samsung in Beni Sweif. Next January, 50 more students will be ready for training at Hyundai Rotem in Cairo, and 20 students at Luny in Assiut.
