According to its latest classification in January 2018, British Times ranking system announced on its site the rank of Assiut University as the fifth among the best Egyptian Government Universities. Dr Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President stated that Assiut University keeps its rank among the best Egyptian Universities in all World Ranking Systems, and added that according to the British Ranking System, Assiut University ranks fifth among Government Universities and Sixth among all government and Private Universities, and 801-1000 among World universities. Dr. Tarek El-Gammal, Vice President for Graduate Studies, indicated that the Times Ranking is one of the most reputable and accurate systems worldwide as it relies on a number of standards including: Scientific Research, the University's Website, Educational standard of both graduate and undergraduate stages, international and Egyptian students.

Assiut university received a host of Egyptian artists in all fields such as: acting, singing, and media members including Ilham Shaheen, Hala Sidqi, Tarek El-Dessouki, Singer Ghada Ragab, Reem Adel, and Bousy Shalaby who arrived in a visit to participate in the conference: "We are all with you for the sake of Egypt." The Conference is organized by the Campaign: "We Are All With You," Assiut Governorate, in support of President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi for a second Term Republican Presidency. In the opening of the festival, all the participant artists ensured the status of Assiut University and its distinctive position among universities regarding it the oldest and largest among Upper Egyptian Universities. They also hailed its educational and scientific contribution to the community. In their visit, the artists also highly esteemed the advanced facilities and modern buildings, and all national and development projects that President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi has provided in his first term of Presidency for the support and renaissance of Upper Egyptian Provinces.

Invitation from the Canadian higher Institutes of Engineering, management and Information (CIC) to the faculty members to participate in scientific research and research projects at the Third International Conference 

Assiut Governor, Eng. Yasser El-Dessouky praised the accomplishments done in the field development of the health services provided to patients of Chest diseases at the University Hospitals which have now become the largest and most recent among all hospitals in Upper Egypt. On her part, Dr Suzan Salama stated that the Department of Chest diseases includes more than a hundred beds providing services ranging from middle to intensive care for males and females. She added that the Department has been equipped by very recent medical sets and monitors to follow the health status of patients as well as non-penetrating systems to assist the breathing process of patients.

During the latest hours of the year 2017, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President extended his congratulations to the political leadership and all Egyptians on the occasion of the advent of the New Year wishing that security, advancement, and prosperity will prevail throughout the country. Dr. Gaeis stated that the year 2017 has witnessed the completion of work and success of all sectors of the university and its various faculties. He added that university started its educational role on the 12th of October, 1957 providing the country with more than 400 thousand graduates to serve the community and the country.

Under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, the University held a joint cultural festivity gathering Egyptian and Russian students. Dr Olga Brantika pointed out that the event included introductory activities representing the two countries, two cultures, in addition to instructing games and song intervals. Besides, Russian students introduced the four seasons in Russia in form of songs and pictures to show the weather in Russia. Moreover, Pyatigorsk students introduced most common meals at their country to their Egyptian counterparts.

A delegation of Russian students visited the Convent of Virgin Mary, Dronka Mount, Assiut Governorate. The visit was part of the program organized for Russian students during their two-month-stay in Assiut for studying Arabic Language and Islamic Civilization.
