Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President announced the opening of the first regional African center for the education of peers, innovation, and development of skills. Dr. Gaeis stated that this center is affiliated to the University's Center for Human Studies and Research and works jointly with UNPF (United Nations Population Fund).

In a celebration for graduating a batch of female Malaysian students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Assiut University President, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis handed all female graduates certificates of recognition and assured that the university is keen on providing all possible means for the support and care for its international students from the various countries.

In his meeting with the delegation from Smile, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, assured that the university's first priority is to introduce an integrated medical system to serve more than two million patients annually. In the mean time, Dr. Mohamed Al-Shazly, professor of Plastic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of Smile Foundation stated that the medical convoy takes place in part of the foundation in Egypt and the entire world undertake surgical procedures for congenital facial defects of children. He added that 91 cases were examined at the Pediatrics University Hospital and 60 surgeries were done at the Main University Hospital.

On his meeting with Brigadier General Dr. Seif Ghanem Al-Sweidi, Dean of Dubai Police Academy, and Colonel Faisal Al-Banna, Director of the Graduate College, Dubai Police Academy, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, assured the depth of the strong ties relating Egypt and the UAE on both formal and informal levels. Dr Essam Zanati revealed that the visit of the Emirati delegation occurred as part of Dr. Al-Sweidi's participation as member of a doctoral examining committee proposed for candidate Mahmoud Mokhtar whose dissertation is about the legal system of space bodies in light of the legislations of international law.

In collaboration with Al-Hilal Firm for Medical Supplies, Assiut University opened the first Unit of its kind for Sonic Waves education and research at the Women Health University Hospital. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hameed assured that the unit is the first in Upper Egypt and the third nationwide to specialize in training and conducting research on Ultra-Sonic Waves. He also assured that the unit is an academic non-profit project, aiming at improving and developing research in the field of ultra-sonic examination.

Dr. Hassan Salah, Professor Emeritus, Gynecology Department and former Vice President of Assiut University, declared that he has released his new medical book, The Art of Using Diagnostic Ultrasonic Waves in Pregnancy and Gynecology, which is considered the first atlas of its kind in Egypt and the fifth worldwide. Dr. Salah revealed that the book will be sold at a number of bookshops for a very low price covering only its costs, and that the revenues of the book will be entirely allocated for the Association of Rescuing Upper Egyptian Patients.

In the competition organized by the Arab Universities Alliance in collaboration with the American University in Cairo, and the participation of 13 Arab Universities, Assiut University was honored last November as one of the most contributing universities. Assiut University participated with a number of projects introducing genuine solution for the achievement of sustainable development, and spreading the culture of leadership among universities.

Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, attended the meeting held for the evaluation of first stage graduation projects of the Korean joint project with KoreaTech University. Among the participants in the meeting was Dr. Bell Hune Ko, Technology Transfer Researcher, KoreaTech Univ. and in charge of the Project. During the meeting, Dr. Gaeis esteemed the projects introduced by students for their new and distinct ideas, and assured that the Korean project aims at raising the levels of education and research capabilities at Assiut University by using advanced technology. He added that it also targets undergraduate students in general, and supports students projects at Electrical and Mechanical departments in particular.

Assiut University President made a tour visit to check the operation of the Lab for configuring Climate within buildings which is regarded as the fruit of the strong cooperation between the university and the German DAAD corporation. In his visit, the President accompanied Dr. Sahar Sedoudy and Dr. Inis Langer, Prof. at Free Berlin University, supervisors of the project in Assiut. Dr. Omar Sayed Hassan, Lecturer, Architecture Department, Faculty of Engineering, indicated that the lab represents a project extending for three year as a grant from the German DAAD, the corporation that furnished the lab and provided the simulation programs needed for study purposes. The lab will therefore provide a scientific curricula for graduate students in the field related to climate and the possibility of exploiting the outer environment in reducing temperatures within buildings through simulating programs of the inner and outer vacuums.
