Hormonal control in regeneration: III- Histochemical studies on hind limb regeneration in tadpoles of the Egyptian toad, Bufo regularis Reuss under combined effect of insulin and electrical stimulation

Research Abstract

Glycogen and total protein contents were studied during hind limb regeneration in a metamorphic stage (number 58) of the Egyptian toad, Bufo regularis Reuss after amputation at the mid shank under combined effect of insulin injection and electrical stimulation with different currents (3, 5 and 10 mA). Histochemical observations revealed a decrease in glycogen content after five and seven days of amputation rather than after one and three days. Tissues of the regenerates were active in protein synthesis in control and treated animals. It was suggested that combined effect of insulin injection and electrical stimulation on the amputated hind limbs of a metamorphic stage (number 58) of the Egyptian toad, Bufo regularis Reuss at the mid shank enhanced the synthesis of proteins. The decreased amount of glycogen and other polysaccharides may be due to their consumption as a result of anaerobic respiration and acceleration of proliferative activity of tissues of regenerates.

Nanoparticle-based surface assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry: a review

Research Abstract

Great endeavors are undertaken to find effective nanoparticles to replace organic matrices for the analysis of small molecules using laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS). Nanoparticles offer high sensitivity and better selectivity compared to conventional organic matrices. Surface assisted LDI-MS (SALDI-MS), and surface enhanced LDI-MS (SELDI-MS) provide clear background spectra without observable interferences peaks, and cause no fragmentation (soft ionization) of thermal and acidity labile molecules. This review article (with 460 references) summarizes the recent applications of nanoparticles including metallic, metal oxides, silicon, quantum dots, metal-organic frameworks and covalent organic frameworks, for the analysis of small molecules. Nanoparticles serve not only as surface for LDI-MS, but they can be also used as probe or pseudo-stationary phase for separation, enrichment, and microextraction. Hopefully, the knowledge and learning points gained from this review will deepen the understanding of nanoparticles applications for LDI-MS.

Synthesis and DFT calculations of new ruthenium(II) nitrosyl complexes using cis-fac-dichlorotetrakis(dimethylsulfoxide)ruthenium(II) precursor and different oximes as sources of nitrosyl ligand

Research Abstract

Three NO+-ruthenium(II) complexes were prepared by using cis-[RuCl2(DMSO)4] as precursor, P, and the compounds benzohydroxamic acid (BHA), 1′, anti-diphenylglyoxime (H2dpg), 2′, and dimethylglyoxime (H2dmg), 3′, as sources of NO moiety. The three complexes [RuCl2(DMSO)3(NO)]+(BA)−, 1, [RuCl2(DMSO)3(NO)]+(Hdpg)−, 2, and [RuCl2(DMSO)3(NO)]+(Hdmg)−, 3, were characterized by (FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and microanalysis. From FT-IR spectral data, two modes of coordination of DMSO to Ru atom through both S and O atoms were detected for 1 and 2. For 3, only S coordination was reported. Computational studies on the [RuCl2(DMSO)3(NO)]+ cationic parts, 1″, 2″ and 3″, of the investigated complexes 1, 2 and 3 were carried out by DFT. The molecular geometry and mode of attachment of Ru(II) with DMSO were performed with the B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory and basis set. Theoretical to the experimental agreement was achieved for analysis of IR data of the investigated complexes. Additional information about binding between the ruthenium atom and the DMSO ligand has been obtained by NBO analysis.
