Assiut University started the proceedings of the annual conference of the Department of Dermatology. The conference was organized by the Faculty of Medicine under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President. The conference extended for three days and included 10 lectures through which patient cases were received by Dermatological professors together with professors of plastic surgery to be instantly treated by injection.

During the opening proceedings of the 31st annual conference, Eng. Yasser Al-Desouky, Governor of Assiut, condemned the sorrowful terrorist episodes which took place earlier April and targeted two churches in Tanta and Alexandria causing the deaths and injury of dozens of innocent civilians and policemen. The Governor, in the presence of Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, and Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal, Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Research, prayed for God to overwhelm the dead with His mercy and condole their families, and asked the participants to stand a minute of mourning for the souls of the diseased.

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President has met Prof. Mohamed Mohamed Al-Shoaiby, Taez University President and discussed the issue of making a memo of understanding between the two universities to ensure strengthening the ties of cooperation in the various educational and scientific fields. Prof. Gaeis asserted that the memo aims at opening the university and relating it with Arab and foreign universities for the exchange of expertise and fields of scientific research as an act of true partnership.

In his participation in the proceedings of the second day of the 31st annual conference of the Faculty of Medicine held on April 8, 2017, Dr. Somayo Sugano, Professor of Medical Genome Sciences, Faculty of Advanced Sciences, Tokyo University asserted the impact of the genetic substance on the growth and development of the living creature's body. This is due to the fact that this substance is considered one of the major factors that identify the patient's response to treatment and the cellular problems which help in the growth and development of humans.  

Eng. Yasser El-Desouky, Governor of Assiut, said that the political leadership of the country priority to the increasing demand for oil products and minimizes the amount of the imported quantities of fuel. He also pointed that the state started to implement integrated plans to develop oil labs. This session of Societal dialogue took place at the Assiut Oil Refining Company(ASORC). The meeting was attended by Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, Eng. Nagy Kassab, Chair of ASORC board of Directors, Prof. Maha Ghanem, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community service, and Prof. Thabet Abdul-Moneim, Director of the centre for Environmental Studies and Research.

In his speech during the opening proceedings of the third annual conference for investments and leading business, entitled as: "Upper Egyptian: Start Up, HE Engineer Tarek Quabeel, Minister of Commerce and Industry, assured that the Ministry will offer 200 factories of 200 metres in each Upper Egyptian governorate, and Assiut will be on top of them, to serve small and intermediate projects. The event was attended by Engineer Yasser Al-Desouky, Governor of Assiut, Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President, Dr. Ayman Adul Moneim, Sohag Governor, and Gen. Mohamed AL Zamlout, Governor of New Valley, in addition to a number of officials and representatives of international corporations and academicians.

The proceedings of the 5th annual conference started in the presence of Eng. Yasser El- Desouky, Governor of Assiut, Dr. Ayman Abdul-Moneim, Governor of Sohag, and Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President. The conference on "the Modern Trends in the Treatment of Psycho-neurological diseases," was organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Psycho-Neurology Department, and witnessed a large participation by scholars and specialists from various Egyptian Universities.  

Prof. Mostafa Al-Sharkawy, Dean of the South Egypt Cancer Institute, Assiut University, announced the signing of a pact of cooperation between the Institute's Friends Foundation and the general Syndicate of Lawyers under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President. The cooperation comes also out of the support offered by the Lawyers' Syndicate and its Chairperson, Mr. Sameh Ashour, with their tendency to assist the institute to carry out its mission concerning educational and health services to Upper Egyptian citizens.  

Headed by the University President, the University Council approved in its session to hold and agreement with the Private Syrian Al-Hawash University. Prof. Tarek Al-Gammal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research indicated that the agreement will last for five years and it will assert the cooperation and exchange of professors and students in all activities; scientific, sports, artistic, social, and cultural. Besides the agreement will aim at exchanging expertise and publications, and linking the two universities electronic libraries.

 Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis Assured that Assiut University, since its establishment, has been keen on taking the lead in supporting the surrounding community, not confining its role to the educational and academic purposes. This mission was decalred during his meeting with the delegation from the United Nation's Fund for Population including Mr. Alexander Boderoza, deputy of the UNFPA, Ms. Jermine Haddad, Director of the UNFPA's Programs, and Mr. Hisham Mahmoud, Communication Official.
