In their visit to Assiut University, Prof. Tarek El-Gammal, University President, met Mr. Finz Nardi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Biomass foundation and Mrs. Wafa Al-Qadi, Biomass Director, to discuss means of possible cooperation and joint work in the field of agriculture and industry, in addition to the possibility of the implementation of joint projects at Assiut University.

In his visit to a number of units and campus facilities, in preparation for the start of the new academic year 2018/2019, Prof. Tarek El-Gammal, Assiut University President asserted that the university is keen on providing all requirements and possibilities to facilitate the educational process for its students. He added that this needs collaboration from all concerned administrations to carry out the necessary procedures to ensure a proper academic environment for its students and special concern will be given to disabled students in particular to help them achieve distinction.

Assiut University President, Prof. Tarek El Gammal attended the opening proceedings of the conference: "Surgeons of Upper Egypt" organized by the Department of General Surgery, in collaboration with peer departments at the Universities of Al-Azhar, Minia, Sohag, Qena, Aswan, and the Oncology Institute. Prof. El-Gammal expressed his pride over the University's medical accomplishments during the past decades. Being one of most distinguished conferences in Upper Egypt as it gathered all surgeons from Upper Egyptian Universities, it focused on the most recent development in the domain of general surgery, endoscopic surgery, liver, gastrointestinal tract, obesity, colon and bile ducts.

Prof. Ahmed El-Menshawi, Dean of Assiut University Faculty of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Assiut University Hospitals, announced that the Hormone Lab, Clinical Pathology Department, Women's Health Hospital, has obtained the International accreditation. It has become the first lab to gain the ISO15189 certificate of quality and efficiency. This reflects the extent of professional commitment of all medical cadres working at the lab and their constant effort to comply with the most recent updates in the field of hormone analyses to provide quality services to the patients.

Together with Oxford Academy, Tahia Egypt (Long Live Egypt) Media Foundation declared Dr. Amira Abdallah Al-Houfy an Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Assiut University winner of the title of the Best Influential Figure of the year 2017/2018. This nomination came in recognition of her knowledge and work in the medical field serving to elevate health awareness among members of the society. The American Thoracic Society has selected Prof. Gamal Mohamed Rabie Agamy, Professor of Chest Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, in recognition of his scientific and research contributions in chest medicine, as member of its International Board for the duration of two years renewable. Dr. Jamal Rabie expressed his pride and honor in by being one of the International Board of Referees of the ATS and given this chance to represent this renowned American Society which includes doctors and specialists in Chest and Critical Cases Medicine.

Prof. Ahmed El-Menshawi, Dean of Assiut University Faculty of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Assiut University Hospitals announced the success of 55 state sponsored corneal transplant surgeries. Dr. Menshawi indicates that this comes out of the University President's keen efforts to provide health care for all social layers, specially the unable classes. He added that steps have been already to legalize the establishment of a university bank for eyes to serve Upper Egyptian patients.

Prof. Ahmed El-Menshawi, Dean of Assiut University Faculty of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Assiut University Hospitals, announced the success of the hospital in rescuing the life of a 66-year-old woman with a severe stroke caused by a 90% narrowing in the right carotid artery. For the first time, in Upper Egypt, the patient was given local anesthesia and was therefore awake and consciousness during the surgery.

In participation and attendance of the final events of the Republic Championship of Tennis held from 2-17 August, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, Prof. Shehata Ghareeb Sholkamy, praised the university's advanced sports facilities which include arenas, playgrounds, and stadiums built and equipped in compliance with international measures to host national tournaments in all games. , which were established according to international standards and conditions and equipped to hold local tournaments in different games.

In his meeting with a visiting delegate from KoreaTech University, Southern Korea, Prof. Tarek El-Gammal, Acting President of Assiut University, stated that the strategy of Assiut University aims at extending international cooperation for the purpose developing the scientific and academic environment for its students and graduates. El-Gammal added that the Korean delegate promised to widen the scope of cooperation during the third phase of the currently effective project in the field of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and aspires to encompass other Engineering fields.
