Assiut University launched the proceedings of the Conference on the European Simulation Model (Fifth Season) 2018/2019. The conference was organized by the Faculty of Commerce under the auspices of Assiut University President, Prof. Tarek El-Gammal. Mohamed Abu-Bakr, the academic Supervisor of the model asserted the importance of simulation models as they take students from the world of memorizing and theoretical studies to an environment of participation and innovation. He added that through this European model, students will acquire the experience of being acquainted with foreign policy, its mechanisms, tendencies, and the decision making in an important international entity such as the European Union being the most effective regional integrity.

Faculty of Computers and Information, Assiut University launches the proceedings of the first Hakthon Competition for Graduate Students under the title: "Biological Variation Information Systems." The competition continues for three days. Dr. Tayseer Abdul-Hamid, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that the competition is carried out in collaboration with Fredrick Schiller University as part of the activities of the project of Biological Variation Debate focusing on Data Analysis in Cloud Computing environment.

Dr. Mohamed Abdul-Wahhab, Dean of the Sugar Technology Research Institute(STRI), Assiut University unveiled the completion of the second day of the conference organized by the STRI in collaboration with the Egyptian Sugar Industry Companies, Sugar Crops Council, and the Food Industries Company. The conference witnessed the participation of more than 300 professors and specialists in sugar industry nationwide, and about 55 foreign experts from 14 Arab and Foreign countries.

In his meeting with Prof. Osamu Tsutsumi, prof. of Polymers, Ritsumeikan University, Assiut University President, Prof. Tarek El-Gammal assured that the university is keen on enforcing all means cooperation with different Japanese universities in the fields of student, academic and cultural exchange so as to strengthen the relationships between the two countries. Prof. Tsutsumi's visit to Assiut University is part of the International program implemented by Science Fund in collaboration with the Japanese Society for developing Physical and Human Sciences, technological Development. The program aims at cooperation with Egyptian universities in supporting and sponsoring scientific research in addition other programs and scholarships for Egyptian researchers.

Assiut University President, Prof. Tarek EL-Gammal, announced the success of two new liver transplants at Al-Rajhi University Hospital for Liver and Gastrointestinal System. With these two surgeries, the total of this most minute and complex surgeries reached 29 surgeries with success ratio exceeding 98% and this represents an additional evidence of the distinction and pioneering role Assiut University Hospitals. On his part, Dr. Ihab Fawzy, Hospital director, stated that the two new cases included liver transplant for a young Moroccan male aging 42 and the donor was his wife aging 32; the other case was a transplant for an Egyptian patient aging 60 and his son aging 37 was the donor. Dr. Fawzy added that the hospital pursued necessary medical follow up to make sure that patients and donors were fine and that the liver was fine and functioning properly.

Prof. Tarek El-Gammal, Assiut University President started training the first group of American medical students on nerve plexus surgery as part of their visit to Assiut University to spend a period of study and training in this field. Prof. El-Gammal conducted the surgical training at the Unit for Microscopic Surgeries in the main University Hospital.

In its Cultural Education Forum entitled: "The Genius of the Egyptian Fighter in October War-Terrorism and Its negative implications on Egyptian National Security," Assiut University granted its Coat of Arms in honor of Staff Major General, Nagy Abdul-Aziz Shuhoud, Strategic Expert and Nasser Military Academy Consultant, Major General Tawfiq Khaled Saeed, Commander of the South Military Region, and Major General Mohamed Abdul-Wahhab, Director of the Assiut General Intelligence Bureau.

World surgeon Prof. Nadir Hanna, Consultant ofGastro, Liver, Pancreas and Soft Tissues Surgery, Maryland and John Hopkins Universities, highly esteemedthe status of Assiut University as a breeder of many universities in Upper Egypt. The event took place as Prof. Shehata Ghareeb, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, accompanied the world surgeon in a visit to the University Documentary Museum in the Administrative Building. Prof. Hanna's visit extends for four days. On the first day, Prof. Hanna will deliver lectures and observe cases, while on the second and third days, he will conduct surgeries, and on the fourth day he will resume surgeries and medical lectures.

HE Dr. Tarek Shawqi, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, (EKB) honored Assiut University by the Bank's Coat of Arms and a Certificate of Recognition. On behalf of Assiut University President, Prof. MahaKamelGhanem, Prof. of Medicine and representative of Assiut University in the field of Universities Ranking and International Relations, Ministry of Higher Education, received the certificate in the honorary celebration held by the (EKB) at the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Clarivate Analytics.Prof. Ghanem stated that the EKB honor is given on recognition of Assiut University's achievements which placed the university among the best 500 world universities. She added that the ranking also declared the best 1250 universities among 65 Arab and foreign universities.

The Seventh International Conference entitled "Chest Diseases and their Relationship with Diabetes in Infants and Adults" started in Cairo. The conference marked dense and wide attendance representing various Egyptian and Sudanese medical institutions. The opening session included honoring the guests who recently joined the activities of the Society as well those who supported and contributed to the Society during the past years. Dr. Suzan Salama, Assiut University Professor of Chest Diseases, and Conference Chairperson stated that honored guests who were granted the Society's Coat of Arms included Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal, Governor of Cairo, and Prof. Ahmed Ghallab, Aswan University President. In addition, Dr. Salama added that the Society also granted its coat of arms in honor of Assiut University and it was handed to Prof. Ahmed Al-Menshawy, Dean of Assiut University Faculty of Medicine on behalf of Prof. Tarek El-Gammal, Assiut University President. Another coat of Arms granted to the Sudanese Neelain University and it was handed to Dr. Sanaa Al-Taher, Professor of Gastrointestinal System and representative of the Sudanese University.
