Assiut University Takes Preparations for the Second Semester Exams on 12 June

70 Thousand Students in 16 Faculties of Assiut University will start the second semester exams on 12 June. Prof. Moustafa Kamal, the President of the University stated that the university took all the preparations for the second semester exams on 12 June, where it was announced the Schedules of the exams in all the faculties, and on the university's website with taking into consideration the demands and opinions of the students. The Control is ready to receive the examination papers and declaration of results. Prof. Said Ahmed Ibrahim, the Vice-President for Education and Student Affairs that the exams will be conducted on public holidays and in all the day in order to reduce the number of students in the exam rooms so as not to exceed the number of students 30 students in a single committee.

Appointing Prof. Geaies As a Vice-President for Community Services and Environmental Affairs

Dr. Ahmed Nazif, the Prime Minister, issued a decision of appointing Prof. Ahmed Abdo Ahmed Abd el Hafiz Geaies as a Vice-President of Assiut University for Community Services and Environmental Affairs. The new Vice-President of the university born in October 1957 and occupied the position of Vice- Dean of Faculty of Science. Prof. Geaies obtained PhD in chemistry and he participated in several projects including project of development the teaching organic chemistry program for the Bachelor degree and the Project of establishing a center of materials science and Nano chemistry. Prof. Geaies published more than 50 research in scientific journals, in addition to arbitration the projects of development of science and technology fund.

Seven European and Egyptian Universities In a common Research project

The Geology department, Faculty of Science, Assiut University, participates in “The Project of Technology Management and Complete Modeling of Natural Resources”. The project is financed by the European Union and it will last for three years. It aims at creating complete connection between the different sectors working in various fields, especially the industry field, on one hand, and the participating universities on the other. The participating universities are: Assiut, Sohag, Ain Shams from Egypt, in addition to the universities Marten Luther, Germany; Exeter, England; Algarf, Portugal; and Water institution, Netherlands.

Prof. Moustafa Mohamed Kamal, President of the University issued the following decisions: • Renewing the appointment of Prof. Hamad Moustafa Azap, the Professor of Commercial Law, as a Vice-Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies and Research for three years, • Appointing Prof. Mahmoud Ahmed, the Professor of Science and Mathematics at the Faculty of Education of the New Valley, as a Head of the Department for three Years, • Appointing Prof. El Sherif Mohamed Abd el Aziz Houzain, the Professor of Civilian Engineering , as a Head of the Department for three years, • Occupying Prof. Mohamed Abd el Azim Tolep, the emeritus Professor of Economy and General Finance at Faculty of commerce, the Supervision of the Department.

Viral Hepatitis in a Conference at Assiut University

Throughout two days, Assiut University witnessed the activities of the fourth annual conference of the Egyptian Association of Viral Hepatitis (EAVH) in collaboration with the Egyptian Association for the study of Gastrointestinal and liver diseases. In the opening speech, Prof. Mustafa Kamal, president of Assiut University, asserted that the university in collaboration with a number of interested Egyptian associations is trying to develop a mechanism to resist the viral hepatitis and prevent it. On the other hand, Prof. Maher Al-Asal, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, alerted that the situation in Egypt is dangerous and needs to be dealt seriously with it and pointed out that we need many researches in the field of therapy, especially Genic-therapy. The four sessions of the conference discussed a number of subjects such as: tailoring of treatment of hepatitis C, Proton-pump inhibitors in special population, Hematological changes in liver diseases, Current status of liver transplantation in Egypt, Parasitic diseases of the liver, Current transmission of hepatitis C in Egypt, and treatment of TB in special situations.

A Course of First Aid for Students of Faculty of Pharmacy

Faculty of Pharmacy organized a course of First Aid and under the auspices of Prof. Moustafa Kamal, the President of Assiut University, and Prof. Jamal Ahmed Saleh, the Faculty's Dean. The symposium comes in the framework of the faculty's activities in community service and environment development. The symposium emphasized the importance of the pharmacist aware of the importance of first aid in field work as well as a citizen to serve himself and society around him. The session included three lectures on the principles of first aid, first aid for injuries of the kinetic system, first aid for wounds, bleeding and burns. The Participants in the seminar included staff members of faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy, who insisted during the session on the need to raise awareness of the importance of a bag for first aid within each house.

Assiut University Council Agrees on

• Two Awards for the Best Master and P.HD in Sugar Technology and Research Institute • Establishing Specialized Center for Liver and Viruses • Two Agreements with the Libyan, Japanese Sides Assiut University Council in the session of April 2010, under the presidency of Prof. Moustafa Mohamed Kamal, the President of Assiut University agreed on establishing specialized center for treating diseases of liver and viruses, that decision came in the frame of the university strategy in establishing series of specialized medical centers, and in facing the liver diseases. The Center participates in easing the loads of coasts and transferring of patients in Upper Egypt, and providing the informational reference and database of the liver diseases. In the other side, the council also approved two cooperation agreement, the first one between the faculty of Engineering and the Concrete Laboratory in Hokaydo, the Japanese University, the second is between the Faculty of Engineering and the Higher Institute for Engineering in Houn, the Libyan City. The Council also agreed on specifying two awards for the best Master and P.HD researches in the Sugar Technology and Research Institute for encouraging the researchers and enriching the researching movement in the university. The University also endorsed the appointing of 17 staff members including 4 professors, 7 assistant professors, and 6 lecturers in different faculties of the university. The council agreed in opening the enrollment in the higher studies in Faculty of Specific Education.

Prevention and Treatment of Hepatitis

A Symposium in Assiut University Reveals: • The Rate of Infecting from Virus C is 12% in Egypt • All the Efforts were Directed to Treatment not to Restrict the Disease The Sector of Community Service and Environment Development of the university, in collaboration with the Egyptian Association of Viral Hepatitis, organized a symposium dealing with the role of the state and community in facing and treating HIV resistance and hepatitis "C". The symposium aimed to shade light on the dangerous of Virus C, and the recent methods of avoiding and treating. The symposium aimed to create a comprehensive strategy to restrict the disease in Upper Egypt. The Symposium included scientific discussions for Proton-Pump inhibitors in special population, new concepts in hepatorenal syndrome, hepatitis C treatment new therapy and new predictors of response to therapy, haematological changes in liver diseases, the intestinal flora and bacterial infection in cirrhosis, update on management of chronic hepatitis B, Current transmission of hepatitis C in Egypt, Hepatitis C virus Arthropathy, and treatment of TB in special situations.
