Effect of Sugar Free Chewing Gum as a Supplemental Approach Instructions to Control Serum Phosphorus Level among Hemodialysis Patients

Research Abstract
Background:Hyperphosphatemia is common among hemodialysis patients, and independently associated with high mortality risk in those patients. Aim: To examine the effect of sugar free chewing gum as a supplemental approach instructions to control serum phosphorus level among hemodialysis patients. Researchdesign: A quasi-experimental research design. Setting: Kidney Dialysis Unit at Assiut University Hospital, Egypt. Sample:120 patients were randomized in two groups, experimental and control and met the inclusion criteria. Patients in the experimental group were instructed to chew two pieces of gum, for 60 min, during fasting periods in the morning and the afternoon and to use of phosphate binder with meals for 4weeks. Tool: The interview questionnaire sheet involved two parts: Part I: Demographic characteristics for patients: Part II: Clinical data of patients: Results: Serum phosphorus level was significantly lower in the experimental group than in control after 4weeks of using sugar free chewing gum (8.200 ±1.34 to5.30 ±0.94 (p 0.0001). Conclusion: The use of sugar free chewing gum as a supplemental approach instructions was effective in controlling serum phosphorus level. Recommendation: The study was highly reinforced the need for sugar free chewing gum to be used by hemodialysis patients for its positive effect on controlling serum phosphorus level.

Effect of In-service Training Program on Minimizing Nursing Intravenous Medication Process Errors by SyringeThrough Intravenous Catheter.

Research Abstract
The dangerous events caused by medication errors are one of the main challenges faced in the hospital. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of in-service training program on minimizing nursing intravenous medication process errors by syringe through intravenous catheter. Design; Quasi-experimental study was used in this study. Setting: Surgical wards (A, B, and C) at Assuit University Hospital. Subjects: all available nurses were in the age group between 18-60 years, and both male and female. Tools: Nurses knowledge questionnaire sheet, Nurses' practice checklist for intravenous medication process, and in-service training program. Results: the majority of nurses were females, two thirds their age ranged from (20 >30 years), and their years of work experience were more than 10 years. The majority of them had not attainting training program related to intravenous medication process. Conclusion: there was statistically significant difference between pre and post implementation of in-service training program as regard total scores of knowledge and practice about nursing intravenous medication process errors. Recommendations: Development of standard guideline medication administration process should be available at all units in the hospitals.

Effect of Implementing Nursing Instructions on Patients' Outcomes Undergoing Transurethral Resection of Bladder tumor

Research Abstract
Transurethral resection is a procedure in which bladder tumors can be removed. Aim: Assess patients' knowledge about bladder cancer and transurethral resection, design nursing instructions for patients undergoing transurethral resection and evaluate the effect of implementing nursing instructions on patients' outcomes. Setting: The study was carried out in the Urology Hospital at Assuit University Hospital. Subjects: 60 adult male patients (18-65) yrs old. Patients were divided randomly into two equal groups (study and control) 30 patients for each. The study group was received the nursing instructions while the control group was received the routine care. Research design: Aquasi-experimental research design was used here. Data collection tools: I) Prepost structured interview questionnaire. II) Pain numeric rating scale. Results: there was statistically significant difference between the study and control groups on knowledge score, and assessment of complications. Conclusion: there was significant improvement post implementing the nursing instructions among the study group. Recommendation: Instructions should be applied to improve patients' condition in simplified booklet.

Effectiveness of Structured Nursing Teaching Program on
Outcomes of Chronic Low Back Pain Patients Undergoing
Radiofrequency Ablation

Research Abstract
Background: Chronic low back pain is a full disorder that considers an important health problem. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program on outcomes of chronic low back pain patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design has been utilized. Setting: Anesthesia and pain management department at the main Assiut University Hospital. Sample: Sixty low back pain patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation. They were randomly assigned in two groups of 30 patients each. Tools: three tools were utilized: Tool I: Structured interview patients' questionnaire. Tool II: Visual analogue pain scale and Tool III: "Modified Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire" in addition, structured nursing teaching program. Results: More than half (53.3%) of the case group their age was from 18 to 55 years, and the rest of them (46.7%) were older adults aged 55 years and more. 80% of the case group had good knowledge post implementation of the program. (100%) of the case group had worst pain intensity level which decrease to (46.7%) post program. 40% of case group had sever disability, which decreased to 30% post implementation of the program. there were significant relation between pain analogue scale and Oswestry low back pain disability scale in pre and post structured nursing teaching program regarding to occupation Conclusion: Structured nursing teaching program had an effective strategy to improve the patients’ outcomes through increasing patients' knowledge, and decreasing both pain intensity and physical disability in the case group versus the control group. Recommendation: Supervised structured teaching program should be carried out for all patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation about pre-and post-procedure instructions and helpful hints for a healthy back when standing, walking, sitting, sleeping, and lifting. Keywords: Chronic low back pain, Radiofrequency ablation, structured nursing teaching program.
