Research Abstract
Transurethral cystolithotripsy is the most common way to manage cystolithiasis. Aim of this study: Was to evaluate the effect of implementing nursing preparations on improving patients' pain and satisfaction. Patients and methods Randomized Control Study design saw utilized to conduct this study. This study was carried out in the Urology and Nephrology Assiut University Hospital. A random sample of 60 adult patients of both sexes, the mean age of study group (51.20±11.73) and the mean age of control group (49.36±12.49). Patients were divided into two equal groups (study and control) 30 patients for each. Tools: Tool (I): Patient assessment sheet, tool (II): Pain numeric rating scale and tool (III): patient satisfaction with nursing care quality questionnaire. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between study and control groups post implementing nursing preparations as regard pain level and patients satisfaction. Conclusion: Significant pain improvement and high level of satisfaction were observed throughout implementation of the nursing preparations among the study group.

Role of the nurse in preventing or reducing increase intracranial pressure following craniotomy

Research Abstract
Background: Increase intracranial pressure following craniotomy is common and different measures should be taken to prevent or treat it promptly. Aim: Preventing or reducing increase intracranial pressure following craniotomy. Research design: Quasi-experimental. Subjects and methods: All nurses (26) in neurosurgery department at Assiut Neurological, Psychiatric and Neurosurgery University Hospital, in addition to a sample of 124 patients after craniotomy. Control group (62 adult patients before implementing the nursing educational program) and study group (62 adult patients after implementing the nursing educational program). Nurses’ knowledge and practice were assessed before and after implementation of the nursing educational program. Tools: Structured questionnaire to assess nurses` demographic data and knowledge about intracranial pressure, observation checklist for nurses` practice, patients’ assessment sheet, and teaching booklet for nurses about postoperative increase intracranial pressure. Results: Highly significant differences were found as regarding nurses` knowledge and nurses` practice pre and post implementing the nursing educational program. Significant difference was found between study and control groups as regarding increase intracranial pressure following craniotomy. Conclusion: Nursing educational program had a significant effect on preventing or reducing postoperative increase intracranial pressure. Recommendation: Nurses should have continuous education through programs, workshops, seminars and/or training courses to maintain high quality care.

Impact of nursing interventions and patients education on quality of life regarding renal stones treated by percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Research Abstract
Background and objective: Renal stones are a common and recurrent condition that requires medical or surgical treatment; all have significant impact on quality of life. The objective of this study was to detect factors affecting quality of life, improve quality of life for patients with renal stones treated by percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Methods: Research design: Prospective randomized controlled trail. Patients and methods: Random sample of 160 patients with renal stones planned for treatment by percutaneous nephrolithotomy at Assiut Urology and Nephrology Hospital were randomized into study and control groups. Study group (80 patients who received nursing interventions and patients education) and control group (80 patients who received routine hospital care). Their age ranged from18-65 years from both sexes. Tools: I Patient assessment sheet, II Rand short form 36 items questionnaire and III Teaching booklet. Results: Study group was showed a good improvement on quality of life after providing nursing interventions and patients education. Conclusions and recommendation: Nursing interventions and patients education for study group had a favorable effect on improving quality of life. Patients with percutaneous nephrolithotomy should receive careful care and education to improve their quality of life.
