Certain Biochemical Studies on Proximal and Distal Resection of the Small Intestine in Dogs

Research Abstract
Experiments were made on 30 dogs divided into two groups, one with distal resection of they small intestine and the other with proximal small intestinal resection . Each group containing 15 animals in which 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the small intestine was resected. The serum biochemical examination included total proteins, total lipids, glucose, sodium, potassium and bilirubin. The serum samples were taken weekly for 21 days following operations. Removal of more than 50 percent of the small intestine leads to more or less intense disturbances in the examined parameters. Serum total lipids, potassium and bilirubin showed a clear reduction in their values than other components. Dogs with 50-75 percent distal resection tend to loss more weight and show more severe defect of absorption than those with proximal resections.

Biochemical Changes of Some Cerebrospinal Fluid constituents in Uraemic and Splenectomized Rams

Research Abstract
The study aimed to follow up possible changes in blood serum and C.S.F. in cases of uraemic and splenectomized rams. C.S.F. was extremely differed in the two groups with regard to pH, urea nitrogen and non-protein nitrogen. Similar phenomena was detected in respective blood serum.

Studies on Some Physical and biochemical Constituents of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Healthy Rams

Research Abstract
The present study established the normal constituents of C.S.F. collected either from the atlanto-occipital or lumbo-sacral spaces and comparing them with the same constituents of blood serum in healthy rams. The obtained results revealed that the site of C.S.F. puncture insignificantly influences either the physical or chemical constituents of C.S.F. Also the C.S.F. was relatively similar to blood serum, with regards to pH and chiorides levels, on the contrary are significantly higher in serum than C.S.F.

Abnormal Pathway of a Sharp Foreign Body in a Buffalo. [Anormaler wag Eines Spiten Frendkorpers in Einem Buffel]

Research Abstract
A case report of abnormal pathway of a sharp foreign body in a buffalo was recorded. A hard swelling was recorded ventrolateral behind the left elbow. Surgical incision of the swelling revealed presence of an abscess containing 5 cm long sharp piece of wire. Recovery was uneventful after removal of foreign body.

Experimental Resection of the Cervical Oesophagus With End to End Anastomosis in Dogs

Research Abstract
The present study was conducted on 48 apparently healthy dogs. The operations performed were oesopha¬gostomy and 1, l1/2 and 2 cm. oesophageal resection with immediate end-to-end anastomosis. The results showed that the amount of resection of the cervical oesophagus in dogs must not exceed than 1.5 cm. in length and in which its function is to maintatined.

Splenectomy in Sheep (I. Technique and Haematological Changes)

Research Abstract
Splenectomy was performed on eight rams to study the effect of this operation on the haematological pic¬ture of such animals. Samples were taken before and at 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, 15&75 weeks post operation. Red and white cells picture was influenced by this operation

The Anatomy of the Tendons of Insertion of the Extrinsic Muscles of the Eyeball in the Donkey, Mule and Horse

Research Abstract
The knowledge of the insertion of the eyeball's ext¬rinsic muscles is of an importance in the surgery and in the forensic medicine. The insertion of the extrinsic muscles of the eyeball in horses can be differentiated from that of mules and donkeys as regards the line of insertion of the dorsal oblique and the mode of insertion of the ven¬tral oblique muscle. Also the eyeball in equine can be differetiated easily from that of large ruminants, by many several features concerning the insertion of the dorsal, medial and lateral, rectus, the position of the tendon of insertion of the ventral rectus and the character of ventral oblique muscle insertion into the sclera.

Rompun in goats with special reference to its effect on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) [Rompun bei der Ziege Unter Besonderer Beriicksichtigung Seiner Wirkung auf die Zerebrospindl fussigkeit (Z.S.F.)]

Research Abstract
Rompun was applied at a dose rate of 0.2 mg/kg body weight intramuscularly to six female goats. The clinical reactions and biochemical parameters of blood serum and cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.) were monitored. The study revealed that Rompun injection was followed by an increase of glucose, urea nitrogen and cholesterol levels in the blood serum and C.S.F. A decrease of chloride levels was evident in blood serum and C.S.F.

Complete amputation of the Thoracic limb in Goats

Research Abstract
Complete amputation of the thoracic limb was performed on 5 goats. The aim of this study is to explain whether the animal can tolerate the amputation or not; to establish the preferable surgical procedure adopted in this condition and to detect the degree of compansatory hypertrophy which is apt to occur in the contralateral thoracic limb. A11 operated animals tolerated will the amputation and they were able to stand, walk and even run few days after the operation. The radical removal of the limb proved to be the surgical technique of choice. Electromyography of some muscles of the contralateral limb showed a significant increase in their electropote-tial activity a fact which allowed the condition of the animal to be healthy through out his life.

Amputation of the Pelvic limb in Goats

Research Abstract
Amputation of the pelvic limb was performed on 15 native breed goats. Different surgical procedures were applied, namely disarticula¬tion at the hip joint, amputation at the mid femur and disarticulation at the stifle. The aim of this study is to explain whether the animal can tolerate the amputation or not and to establish the surgical procedures adopted in these conditions. The result of the pre¬sent work proved that all operated animals tolerate well the operation and they were able to stand, walk, run and even jump without impediment. The details of the operative pro¬cedures were discussed.
