Synthesis and characterization of MnPS3 for hydrogen sorption

Research Abstract
Single phase MnPS3 powder was prepared by solid state reaction between Mn. S and P carried out at 650 ˚C in evacuated silica tube. The structure, morphology and sorption characteristics of the prepared solid were investigated. The results revealed that the obtained MnPS3 compound was capable of adsorbing 3.5 wt% hydrogen at – 193 ˚C and a pressure of 30 bar. Little amount of hydrogen (0.07 wt %) was adsorbed at room temperature. The hydrogen adsorption/desorption cyclesat various temperatures did not result in irreversible chemical structural changes of the MnPS3 compound, but the microstructure after hydrogen cycling diminished and became finer.

Effect of diabetes control or growth hormone and somatomedin-C levels in young subjects with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Research Abstract
serum levels of GH, Somatomedin-C as well as linear body growth were determined in 28 young diabetic subjects (14 children and 14 preadolescents) and in 20 normal age-matched control. All children and 50% of the preadolescent patients were poorly controlled. The mean hight in both groups was insignificantly lower than that in controls. Serum GH was higher in both groups while SM-C was insignificantly lower in children and insignificantly higher in preadolescents than that in the controls. An inverse correlation between GPP and SM-C in the poorly controlled preadolescent diabetics. These finding may suggest that the decreased linear growth results in poorly controlled diabetics from decreased serum SM-C. Meanwhile, the elevated GH levels may imply a state of GH resistance and may help to explain the inadequate diabetes control among this group patients.

Effect of a bradyknin potentiating fraction from venom of the Egyptian cobra, Naja haje haeje on the lipid peroxidation of liver, kidney and testis of rats

Research Abstract
The general objective of this study is to examine the effect of fraction with bradykinin potentiating activity isolated from cobra snake on the LPO and its relation to free radical in the liver, kidney and testis of rats. The content of lipids, TBARS, GSH, calacium and zinc and the activity of SOD were measured. The results indicate that injection of rat with the venom fraction (1mg/kg body weight) induced a decrease in the lipids in liver, but GSH and SOD activity were increased in kidney and testi. The tissue content of calcium was increased in kidney, however zinc was increased in testis and decreased in the kidney.

Assessment of the diabetogenic streptozotocin as a model for the study of oxidative stress in female rats

Research Abstract
Oxidative stress rise either as a result of increased free radical production or reduced of antioxidant defense. The levels of LPO, GSH, and several antioxidant enzymes activities were determined in liver, kidney, intestine, spleen, pancrease and adrenal glands of female rats injected with different doses of STZ.It is evident from the study that the immediate pathological effects of STZ are primarily through LPO which was higher with the high dose of STZ. Moreover, STZ released free radicals not only damage B-cells of pancreas by damage other vital organs also.

Kinetics of accumulation of radioiodine in rats thyroid gland as affected by PGB1, PGF1α and PGF2α

Research Abstract
Uptake of radiodine by thyroid glan within 90 min after I.v injection with Na 131 I was studied in male rats which had been i.p injected with either PGB1, PGF1α or PGF2α. The mathematical analysis of radioiodide plasma disappearance curves showed that the rioiodide was kinetically exchanged within a two compartmental model. This is one of the three compartmental model of Wollman and Reed in which total 131 I is considered to be one compartment and blood plasma is the other. The fraction rate constant for migration of 131I from plasma pool towards the reversible pool of the thyroid was effectively enhanced by PGF1α and PGF2α . The reversible fractional rate constant was variably affected. The fractional rate constant that regulates the interconversion of free iodide from labile pool to be oxidized is increased due to the action of PGF1α and decreased by PGF2α.
