Under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Committee for Monitoring the Removal of Obstructions, Maintaining Green Spaces, and Beautifying Campus Streets continued its fieldwork to inspect rainwater drainage systems and ensure that building rooftops are clear of any obstructions that could impede water flow. These measures are part of the university’s early preparedness for expected weather fluctuations and climate change, aiming to achieve the highest levels of safety and security across the campus. The efforts are conducted under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that the university operates under an integrated vision to enhance the safety and security system across the campus by maintaining a high state of readiness in all sectors and adopting a proactive approach to potential weather or climate developments. This approach ensures the protection of lives and property while providing a safe and stable learning environment. He also highlighted the importance of full coordination between all relevant sectors to enhance response efficiency and minimize potential risks.

In this context, the committee conducted field visits to several faculties and institutes. On Wednesday, December 31, Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy carried out an inspection tour at the Institute of Molecular Biology, accompanied by Dr. Amr Abdel-Fattah, Dean of the Institute, and Professor Heba Attia Yassi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The Vice President also toured the Faculty of Nursing, in the presence of Professor Fatma Rushdi, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Nahed Shoukatt, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Ikram Ibrahim, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research. The tour aimed to ensure the readiness of rainwater drainage systems on building rooftops and to verify that faculty and institute administrations are adhering to safety and security requirements, thereby minimizing potential risks during heavy rainfall or extreme weather conditions.

Professor Mohamed Adawy affirmed that Assiut University prioritizes raising preparedness levels across all its sectors and maintaining a proactive approach to potential climate developments. He noted that continuous field monitoring is a key pillar for supporting the university’s safety system, protecting lives and property, and improving the campus environment while achieving sustainable development objectives.

Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamd, General Coordinator of the Committee, explained that the inspection tour also included monitoring the maintenance and beautification of green spaces and reviewing deteriorated sidewalks. These efforts contribute to improving the university’s urban aesthetics, enhancing its adaptability to climate changes, monitoring agricultural pest control indicators, and inspecting old or damaged trees to ensure the safety of university members while promoting environmental sustainability on campus.

Under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Assiut Chest Association, organized the ninth Community Environmental Day on Monday, December 29, under the theme “Cold-Related Illnesses and Their Prevention.” The event was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Professor Atef El-Qarn, President of the Assiut Chest Association and Coordinator of the event.

The activities were attended by Professor Khaled Abdel Aziz, Director of the Main University Hospital, alongside a distinguished group of faculty members, teaching assistants, nursing teams, and staff, reflecting the university’s commitment to promoting health awareness and serving the community.

The event featured a series of specialized scientific lectures addressing various aspects of cold-related illnesses. These included presentations on frequently asked questions about cold-related illnesses and guidance on their management, aimed at correcting misconceptions and enhancing health awareness among participants.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that organizing the Community Environmental Day at the Faculty of Medicine reflects the vital role of the university in serving the community and promoting health awareness. He noted that raising awareness about cold-related illnesses and their prevention is a priority during this period due to their direct impact on public health.

The University President added that Assiut University is keen to leverage its scientific and medical expertise to support national efforts in disease prevention, in cooperation with civil society organizations and health authorities, helping to reduce health complications and promote a culture of prevention. He affirmed that the university will continue to support initiatives and events aimed at enhancing public health and improving quality of life.

Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy highlighted the importance of the Community Environmental Day in shedding light on cold-related illnesses and methods of prevention. He noted that the current spread of these illnesses has created what can be described as a “social alarm,” as many citizens face health complications due to lack of awareness and knowledge. He also praised the distinguished efforts of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine.

Professor Hoda Makhlouf confirmed the ongoing organization of the Community Environmental Day with the support of the university and faculty administration. She explained that the choice of this year’s topic coincides with the seasonal prevalence of cold-related illnesses, stressing the importance of health awareness and emphasizing that prevention is always better than treatment.

Professor Khaled Abdel Aziz noted the continuous cooperation between the university hospitals and the Faculty of Medicine’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector to support health awareness efforts. He confirmed that the topic of the Community Environmental Day addresses key issues affecting community health, including the complications of cold-related illnesses and ways to prevent and manage them.

Professor Atef El-Qarn added that the event included a number of specialized lectures, such as “Viral Bronchitis and Pneumonia,” delivered by Dr. Lamiaa Shaaban, Professor of Chest Diseases at Assiut University, and “The Current Epidemiological Status of Infectious Respiratory Diseases in Assiut Governorate,” delivered by Dr. Lobna Ahmed, Deputy Director of Surveillance at the Assiut Health Directorate. These lectures provided a comprehensive scientific perspective on the nature of these diseases and methods for addressing them.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, emphasized the utmost importance of raising the level of preparedness across all sectors of the University to confront expected climate changes, in a manner that ensures the highest standards of safety and security, protects lives and facilities, and provides a safe and motivating educational and working environment for all members of the University community—reflecting Assiut University’s distinguished status and pioneering role.

In this context, and based on the directives of Professor El-Minshawy, and under the chairmanship of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Committee for Monitoring the Removal of Encroachments, Care of Green Areas, and Street Beautification at Assiut University was tasked with inspecting rainwater drainage channels and ensuring that building rooftops are free from any obstructions that could hinder water drainage, as part of early preparedness for weather fluctuations.

The committee conducted field visits to several faculties, including the Faculties of Commerce, Law, Engineering, Dentistry, and Computers and Information, to ensure the readiness of rooftop drainage systems and to verify that faculty administrations are committed to implementing safety and security requirements, thereby reducing potential risks during periods of rainfall or severe weather conditions.

The committee also monitored encroachments within the internal perimeter of the University, followed up on the preservation and maintenance of green spaces, and enhanced the beautification of campus entrances in support of sustainable green landscaping concepts. In addition, deteriorated sidewalks were identified and prepared for rehabilitation, contributing to improving the University’s overall visual appearance and strengthening its capacity to adapt to climate change.

Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, General Coordinator of the Committee, explained that the committee’s responsibilities also include preparing sidewalks for pedestrian use, planning speed bumps within the University, and installing guidance signage on main and secondary roads to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. These efforts are complemented by monitoring indicators related to agricultural pest control and inspecting old or deteriorated trees to safeguard the University community and enhance environmental sustainability across campus.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced the package of recommendations issued by the Alumni Scientific Day, held under the title “Assiut University Graduates… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow.” The event was organized by the International Academic Ranking Office in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts, as part of the University’s commitment to developing its graduate preparation system and strengthening its position in regional and international academic rankings. The event was supervised by Professor Omar Mamdouh Shaaban, Director of the International Academic Ranking Office, and Professor Mohamed Helmy Al-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Rapporteur of the Scientific Day.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the University is working to prepare graduates who possess knowledge, skills, and awareness, and who are capable of competing at both regional and international levels. He noted that this is achieved through investment in human capital, support for applied scientific research, strengthening partnerships, and the optimal utilization of knowledge resources—foremost among them the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.

The President of Assiut University stated that the Scientific Day resulted in several key recommendations, most notably activating alumni follow-up units across all faculties and updating alumni databases to identify and monitor distinguished graduates. In addition, the recommendations included establishing a unified electronic alumni database documenting academic and professional achievements, thereby supporting international ranking efforts and enhancing global communication with the University’s graduates.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Helmy Al-Hefnawy explained that the sessions of the Scientific Day focused on developing a digital platform for alumni-related scientific and artistic activities at the local and international levels. The platform would include lectures, success stories, and inspirational professional experiences, preserved as a knowledge archive to support student training and skills development. The sessions also emphasized measuring the impact of the Scientific Day through surveys and evaluating the quality of participation and presented content.

The meeting was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Chairman of the Center’s Board of Directors, and Professor Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Vice Chairman of the Board, along with members of the Center.

He highlighted the University’s dedication to enhancing the performance of specialized centers and expanding the scope of their services to meet community needs, in line with the State’s strategy and Egypt Vision 2030.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that the meeting discussed several key decisions, foremost among them reviewing the Center’s operational mechanisms and objectives, as well as exploring ways to improve performance in accordance with Assiut University’s strategy and vision for supporting mental health and serving the community.

He added that the meeting also addressed plans to organize awareness convoys aimed at raising public awareness about mental illnesses, substance abuse, and addiction, correcting misconceptions associated with these issues, and introducing proper mechanisms for providing sound psychological support to patients and their families. These efforts aim to enhance positive psychological well-being within the community.

The meeting further discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with various State institutions and to unify efforts to present an integrated, practical model that contributes to the implementation of presidential initiatives and supports the State’s direction toward promoting sustainable positive psychological well-being for individuals and society.

As part of Assiut University’s strategic orientation toward promoting environmental sustainability, the Sector of Community Service and Environmental Development organized a workshop entitled “Mechanisms for Pest Control Based on Environmental Sustainability Standards: Universities’ Path Toward Environmental Excellence.” The workshop was held under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, chaired by Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and supervised by Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, General Coordinator of the workshop.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that university excellence is no longer measured solely by academic performance, but also by the institution’s ability to manage its resources and facilities through sustainable practices that preserve the environment and safeguard the rights of future generations to a clean and safe environment. He emphasized the importance of adopting sound environmental practices within the university campus.

Professor El-Minshawy added that Assiut University operates according to a clear vision aimed at integrating environmental sustainability concepts into its academic, administrative, and service activities. He stressed that preserving green spaces and ensuring the safe, scientific management of pests constitute a fundamental part of the University’s responsibility toward society and the environment. These efforts contribute to creating a healthy and safe campus environment, improving quality of life, and aligning with the State’s orientation toward sustainable development.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that pest control is no longer merely a service procedure, but rather an integral component of Assiut University’s vision for sustainable development. He noted that colleges’ commitment to applying sustainability standards in this field helps reduce health risks to faculty members, staff, and students, while preserving biodiversity within the campus green areas. He added that the workshop aims to enhance the capacities and competencies of faculty members and their assistants who serve on the Environmental Practices and Sustainability Committees across the University’s colleges, and to enable them to assess the current status of green spaces and apply proper scientific approaches to pest management.

Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, General Coordinator of the team, pointed out that one of the key priorities of the action plan is to develop the capacities of teams responsible for maintaining green areas and to enhance their skills in dealing with pests and insects, through the University’s Pest Control Unit, in line with the team’s approved performance indicators.

In the same context, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Director of the Pest Control Unit, delivered a lecture addressing the Unit’s objectives and future plans, explaining mechanisms for pest identification and methods of controlling pests affecting crops within the University’s green areas.

Additionally, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Saleh, Executive Director of the Pest Control Unit, presented a lecture covering types of pests, infestation hotspots, and their locations within green areas, the most common species, the importance of proper management, and the risks and damages associated with their presence.

Under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, held a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Public Service Center for Teaching Arabic to discuss mechanisms for organizing Arabic language training courses for a number of Indian students affiliated with the University. This initiative comes within the framework of strengthening cultural and academic cooperation with the Indian side.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, explained that the University places great importance on supporting international students from various nationalities and is keen to provide specialized educational and training programs that contribute to their integration into the university community and enhance their linguistic and cultural communication skills. He emphasized that organizing Arabic language courses for Indian students reflects the University’s cultural and civilizational role and reinforces its position as a center of academic and cultural influence at both the regional and international levels.

The meeting discussed a proposal to implement these courses with the aim of developing the Arabic language skills of Indian students and enhancing their positive interaction within the university environment, which would be reflected in the improvement of both educational and service processes. This comes in response to a request by Ms. C. Sushma, Acting Ambassador of India to Egypt, as part of efforts to strengthen cultural and academic ties between Assiut University and the Indian side, support international students, and create a more integrated and interactive university environment.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance the marketing of the courses and activities offered by the Public Service Center for Teaching Arabic, review the performance of its various training programs—including financial aspects—and discuss a plan to develop the Center’s classrooms and infrastructure, with the aim of improving the quality of educational services provided.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated on Wednesday, December 24, the exhibition of the “Oil Painting Model” Competition organized by the Oil Painting Division of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts. The exhibition was held from December 14 to 17, under the supervision of Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Atiya, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Director General of Student Welfare at the University.

The exhibition was organized under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Abdel-Hakim, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Sahar Boutros Naguib, Head of the Painting Department and Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

During his tour of the exhibition, Professor El-Minshawy praised the outstanding artistic quality of the displayed works, affirming that the exhibition reflects Assiut University’s commitment to supporting student creativity, nurturing artistic talent, and linking academic study with practical application. He emphasized that such activities contribute to refining students’ skills and preparing graduates who possess both scientific and practical competence, enabling them to compete effectively in the labor market. He also highlighted the role of these activities in enhancing public taste, reinforcing cultural identity, and developing artistic awareness among youth, with positive implications for society and the university’s standing as a hub for education and creativity.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy explained that the competition aimed to equip students with the artistic skills required for graduation projects and to provide hands-on training in various painting techniques. This practical training, he noted, contributes to producing distinguished graduation projects that reflect the high academic and professional standards of the participating students from the Oil Painting Division, whose number reached 19 students. He added that the artworks were executed using oil paints on canvas.

The exhibition also featured the distribution of certificates of appreciation and awards to the winners of the first six places in the competition: Sara Essam, Mariz Behgat, Shorouk Ashraf, Kyrillos Ayman, Karima Abdel-Latif, and Mari Kamal.

In addition, the exhibition included the participation of 14 students from the Mural Painting Division of the department, who presented mural works produced as part of the educational process during the first academic semester. These works were executed using mosaic materials, and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the distinguished students: Ahmed Salah, Shahd Ashraf, Shifaa Mohamed, Sandra Aouny, Menatallah Rashwan, Demiana Sameh, Sara Agamy, and Shaimaa Salah El-Din.

The event was attended by a number of faculty members from the Painting Department, including Dr. Walaa Ahmed, Dr. Mohsen Ahmed, Dr. Hany Tharwat, and Dr. Naglaa Badrawy, in addition to members of the teaching assistant staff at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
