Professor El-Minshawy Visits the Cathedral of Archangel Michael to Congratulate Anba Youannis on His Elevation to Metropolitan of the Assiut Eparchy

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, paid a cordial visit on Wednesday, December 24, to the Cathedral of Archangel Michael in Assiut to extend his congratulations to His Grace Anba Youannis on the occasion of his elevation to Metropolitan of the Eparchy of Assiut, Sahel Selim, Al-Badari, and its affiliated regions. The visit took place within the framework of strong relations and a spirit of mutual respect and affection.

During the visit, Professor El-Minshawy conveyed his sincere congratulations to His Grace Anba Youannis, wishing him continued success and guidance in his pastoral mission, and further progress in serving the members of the eparchy and promoting the values of love and peace.

The President of Assiut University expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian and social role played by the Church in serving the community, stressing the importance of sustained constructive dialogue between educational and religious institutions in a manner that strengthens human bonds and serves the local community.

Professor El-Minshawy affirmed that the visit reflects Assiut University’s commitment to fostering cordial relations with various religious and community institutions and to participating in occasions that promote goodwill, mutual understanding, and positive social engagement.

For his part, His Grace Anba Youannis expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy for the gracious visit, wishing him and Assiut University continued success. He also commended the university’s educational and societal efforts in serving the people of Assiut Governorate.

Professor El-Minshawy Opens the Scientific Day for Assiut University Alumni Titled: “Assiut University Alumni… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow”

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated on Tuesday, December 23, the activities of the Scientific Day for Assiut University Alumni, held under the title “Assiut University Alumni… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow.” The event was organized by the International Academic Ranking Office in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts, as part of the university’s vision to strengthen sustainable engagement with its alumni and benefit from their accumulated professional and academic expertise.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the Scientific Day reflects Assiut University’s commitment to maintaining strong and lasting ties with its graduates, whom the university considers one of its most important academic and societal pillars, as well as genuine partners in the national development process and distinguished role models in human capacity building.

He noted that Assiut University takes great pride in its alumni as the outcome of a long-standing educational and scholarly endeavor, stressing their role in representing the university’s standing and leadership in preparing qualified cadres capable of contributing effectively across diverse professional fields.

The President of Assiut University added that the Scientific Day highlights the importance of linking alumni’s accumulated practical experience with the educational process, providing a platform for exchanging successful experiences that inspire students, foster excellence and innovation, and better prepare graduates for the evolving demands of the labor market.

Professor El-Minshawy further explained that activating alumni engagement constitutes a key pillar in enhancing Assiut University’s position in international academic rankings, particularly the QS Stars ranking, as graduate quality and sustained affiliation with their alma mater directly contribute to strengthening the university’s academic and institutional reputation at both regional and international levels.

In a related context, Professor El-Minshawy extended his congratulations to the Assiut University community on the university’s advancement by 12 positions in the 2025 Arab University Rankings, achieving 17th place regionally and fourth nationally, a reflection of the success of the university’s integrated education and research systems. He affirmed that this achievement serves as a strong incentive to continue pursuing excellence and reinforcing the university’s regional and international standing.

The Scientific Day was held under the supervision and attendance of Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Omar Mamdouh Shaaban, Director of the International Ranking Office; Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Rapporteur of the Scientific Day; Professor Amr Abu Fadan, Deputy Director of the International Academic Ranking Office; and Dr. Yomna Mohamed Atef, Scientific Day Coordinator.

The event witnessed the participation of a number of deans and vice deans, advisors to the University President, faculty members, a large number of students and alumni, as well as a distinguished group of prominent Assiut University graduates and academic figures.

In a gesture of appreciation for Assiut University’s national and academic role, Mr. Adel El-Saadawy, Chairman and Managing Director of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing, presented the Dar Al-Tahrir Shield to Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, along with the first printed issue of Al-Gomhuria newspaper, published in December 1953. The newspaper was established following the July Revolution to serve as its voice and was supervised by the late President Anwar El-Sadat.

The Scientific Day also featured the participation of several distinguished alumni and academic figures, including Ms. Ola Lawrence, Advisor to the Egyptian Knowledge Bank; Dr. Ahmed Yehia Rashed, Professor of Architecture and President of the Civilization Rights Institute (CRI), USA; Dr. Ehab Mamdouh, Founder and CEO of Nexus Pharma Solutions LLC, USA; Professor Nasr El-Din Mohamed, Head of the Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery, Germany; Mr. Adel El-Saadawy, Chairman of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing (Al-Gomhuria); and Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, Director of the Medical Nanotechnology Research Unit at Delta University.

Professor Gamal Badr praised the organization of the Scientific Day, noting the university’s keenness to highlight distinguished alumni across scientific and professional fields, thereby facilitating knowledge transfer and motivating students to innovate and pursue successful career paths.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy stated that the event aligns with the university’s ongoing support for its alumni and efforts to strengthen their connection with the university community. He highlighted Assiut University’s focus on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, keeping pace with modern educational trends through entrepreneurship clubs, expansion in emerging fields such as cybersecurity and data science, advanced engineering disciplines, and the introduction of new academic programs to support sustainable development and human capacity building.

Professor Omar Mamdouh Shaaban noted that this year’s Scientific Day has a distinctive character, as it sheds light on alumni achievements across various professional and academic domains. He emphasized that alumni represent one of the most significant indicators of institutional strength, and their presence in influential positions positively impacts the university’s reputation and supports international academic ranking criteria.

In recognition of distinguished alumni, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy honored Ms. Ola Lawrence, Dr. Ahmed Yehia Rashed, Mr. Ehab Mamdouh, Dr. Nasr El-Din Mohamed, Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, and Mr. Adel El-Saadawy.

The Scientific Day included a panel discussion titled “Assiut University Alumni… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow,” moderated by Professor Amr Abu Fadan and Dr. Yomna Mohamed Atef, with participation from the honored alumni. The discussion addressed professional journeys, success pathways, and mechanisms for leveraging alumni expertise to support current students and recent graduates and strengthen their linkage to the labor market locally and internationally.

The dialogue also explored alumni attachment to Assiut University, the university’s role in shaping their professional and personal awareness, and its contribution to developing their skills and values of commitment and belonging. The event further featured a second session comprising two lectures. The first, titled “QS Stars,” was delivered by Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, addressing recent developments in global university rankings and evaluation criteria. The second lecture, titled “Assiut University’s Efforts in Alumni Engagement and Their Relation to Academic Rankings,” was presented by Dr. Omar Mamdouh Shaaban, outlining the university’s initiatives to enhance alumni engagement and leverage these efforts to strengthen institutional reputation and international ranking performance.

At the conclusion of the Scientific Day, Mohamed Helmy El-Hifnawy reviewed the key recommendations emerging from the sessions, emphasizing the university’s commitment to translating them into effective implementation mechanisms to further develop graduate preparation systems and enhance competitiveness at the local and international levels.

Key recommendations included strengthening continuous engagement with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and maximizing its resources through a series of skills-development training programs, particularly in artificial intelligence and modern technologies, in line with rapid global developments and labor market needs. Participants also stressed the importance of addressing students’ psychological well-being and personality development through specialized psychology courses for final-year students, focusing on self-awareness, priority setting, and resilience, to prepare well-balanced graduates capable of confidently meeting future challenges.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated the art exhibition of graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts, held as part of the Scientific Day for Assiut University Graduates, organized by the International Academic Ranking Office in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts, under the title: “Assiut University Graduates… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow.”
The event reflects the University’s commitment to supporting artistic creativity, strengthening ongoing communication with its alumni, and showcasing distinguished models across various fields.

The exhibition was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Rapporteur of the Scientific Day, and Dr. Sahar Boutros, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of distinguished academic and professional guests, including Professor Ahmed Yehia Rashed, Professor of Architecture and President of the Civilization Rights Institute (CRI), USA; Dr. Ehab Mamdouh, Founder and President of Nexus Pharma Solutions LLC, USA; Professor Nasr El-Din Mohamed, Head of Urology and Robotic Surgery in Germany; Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, Director of the Medical Nanotechnology Research Unit at Delta University; and Mr. Adel El-Saadawy, Managing Director of Dar El-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing (Al-Gomhuria Newspaper).

Faculty of Specific Education at Assiut University Launches “Sustainable Applied Arts” Initiative to Promote Environmental Awareness and Highlight the Role of Arts in Sustainability

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Sustainable Development Unit at the Faculty of Specific Education organized an initiative titled “Sustainable Applied Arts” on Monday, December 22, 2025. The initiative was supervised by Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Yasmine El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty; Professor Saleh Mahmoud Ismail, Director of the University’s Center for Sustainable Development; and Professor Mohamed Abdel-Baset Mohamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Head of the Sustainable Development Unit. Dr. Rehab Ahmed Zaki, Executive Director of the Unit, and Dr. Heba Atef Galal, Unit Coordinator, also participated.

The event was attended by Dr. Nariman Saeed, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Doaa Abdel-Mohsen, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Mr. Mohamed Farag, Board Member of the Center for Sustainable Development; alongside faculty members, department heads, staff, and students.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the University’s commitment to employing creativity and the arts as effective tools to support environmental sustainability and raise societal awareness about sustainable development. He highlighted Assiut University’s efforts to integrate environmental dimensions into academic and cultural activities, fostering responsible student awareness and enhancing the University’s community service role in line with Egypt Vision 2030.

Professor Yasmine El-Kahky underscored that the initiative seeks to combine artistic creativity with environmental responsibility, demonstrating how applied arts can serve as an effective medium for raising awareness of environmental and social issues. She emphasized that the initiative offers innovative experiences in producing artworks that strategically link aesthetic value with developmental impact, preparing students to take responsibility within a sustainable society.

Professor Saleh Mahmoud Ismail noted that the Faculty of Specific Education is a pioneer in supporting sustainable development goals through specialized activities and initiatives, which help spread a culture of sustainability across the university community.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Baset Mohamed added that the initiative highlights that creativity is not solely an aesthetic pursuit but a powerful tool for community service and building the future. He stressed that the faculty, through its various departments, can support sustainability by promoting environmental awareness, recycling practices, resource conservation, and translating awareness into tangible action.

The initiative included the opening of theSustainable Applied Arts” exhibition, showcasing works by faculty members of the Department of Art Education. The exhibition featured diverse art forms, including painting, sculpture, design, ceramics, handicrafts, woodworking, and design fundamentals, reflecting environmental sustainability concepts.

Additionally, musical performances were presented by Mr. Ahmed Hanafi, teaching assistant in the Department of Music Education, and students Irene Hany and Maria Milad, highlighting the role of music in supporting the cultural and environmental message of the initiative.

The event concluded with a ceremony honoring university and faculty leaders in recognition of their active role in the success of the initiative and their contributions to supporting the Sustainable Development Unit and promoting a culture of sustainability within the college and the university community.

Assiut University President Reviews Report on Vice President’s Visit to the National Center for Social and Criminological Research to Enhance Academic and Research Cooperation

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, received a report from Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, regarding his official visit to the National Center for Social and Criminological Research. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and research collaboration and implement the provisions of the protocol signed between the two institutions.

The Vice President was welcomed by Dr. Hala Ramadan, Director of the Center, and Dr. Yasser El-Sayed, a senior researcher at the Center. From Assiut University, Dr. Asmaa Gaber Mehran, Professor of Sociology and Protocol Coordinator, also participated in the meeting.

The visit focused on exploring avenues for joint collaboration, activating the protocol’s provisions, exchanging scientific and research expertise in priority societal issues, enhancing the research capacities of both parties, and developing joint training programs and workshops.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the University’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with specialized research centers, particularly the National Center for Social and Criminological Research, which possesses substantial expertise in studying societal issues. He noted that this collaboration represents a qualitative addition for the University in applied research and in supporting decision-makers with accurate scientific data and studies.

He added that activating the protocol’s provisions helps link the educational process with societal realities, enhances students’ training opportunities, and equips them to actively participate in research projects that serve national priorities. It also supports evidence-based policy formulation and provides students and faculty with more research and training opportunities, strengthening the University’s role in community service and environmental development, in line with the nation’s sustainable development goals.

Professor Adawy highlighted that the visit marked an important step toward activating the protocol and expanding scientific and research collaboration between Assiut University and the Center. Discussions included implementing training courses for social and psychological specialists at the University, as well as for final-year students in the Faculties of Arts and Social Work, and students in the Public Policy and Information Systems program (PPIS), focusing on data collection and analysis using modern statistical methods.

Assiut University Hosts “Hayat Karima” Delegation to Strengthen Cooperation and Organize Medical Convoys for Underprivileged Villages

Assiut University, under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, hosted an extended meeting with the executive office of the “Hayat Karima” Foundation in Assiut Governorate. The meeting aimed to enhance collaborative efforts and coordinate the organization of integrated medical convoys targeting the governorate’s most underserved villages and communities.

The meeting was attended by Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Colonel Ahmed Galal, Director of the Hayat Karima Office in Assiut, Eng. Mina Ibrahim Hanna, General Coordinator of the Foundation in Assiut, Dr. Mohamed Sami El-Qady, Deputy General Coordinator, and Mr. Ibram Ibrahim Salib, Central Coordinator for Assiut and Manfalut centers.

The discussion focused on mechanisms to organize and conduct joint medical convoys between Assiut University and the Hayat Karima Foundation, aiming to improve healthcare services for residents of the most vulnerable villages in the governorate and support national efforts to enhance quality of life.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that the partnership with Hayat Karima represents a genuine model of integration between state institutions and national initiatives. He noted that the “Hayat Karima” presidential initiative is one of Egypt’s key comprehensive development projects, targeting the well-being of citizens, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Professor El-Minshawy added that Assiut University places community service at the forefront of its priorities and seeks to leverage its medical, scientific, and research capabilities to support the initiative through medical convoys, awareness campaigns, and active participation in delivering healthcare services.

Assiut University Strengthens Global Sustainability Standing, Climbs 100 Places in GreenMetric 2025 Ranking

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced a major achievement for the University in international rankings, with Assiut University climbing 100 positions in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings compared to last year. This milestone reflects the University’s ongoing institutional efforts to enhance sustainability practices on campus.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the GreenMetric results highlight Assiut University’s success in embedding environmental sustainability within education, research, and community service. He described the achievement as a clear indicator of the effectiveness of the University’s policies and strategic initiatives in this critical area.

The advancement is the outcome of a comprehensive strategic and implementation plan, which focused on developing infrastructure, supporting environmentally-related research, and applying sustainable practices across campus. These measures strengthen Assiut University’s position as a competitive institution at the local, regional, and international levels.

Prof. Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, noted that sustainability is a strategic priority for the University, aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach supports a modern university model that promotes innovation and attracts students and researchers with a focus on environmental issues.

Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, emphasized that UI GreenMetric is one of the leading international rankings assessing universities’ environmental and institutional performance. Dr. Omar Shaaban, Director of the Academic Ranking Office, explained that GreenMetric’s methodology evaluates six main dimensions: campus setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education & research. Each dimension includes precise indicators measuring the university’s commitment to sustainability on campus.

Assiut University Adopts National Anti-Smoking Initiative to Achieve “Tobacco-Free Generation”

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, affirmed the University’s commitment to implementing the directives of the President of Egypt to combat smoking on university campuses. The initiative aims to establish a “Tobacco-Free Generation”, providing a healthy and safe academic environment while reinforcing the University’s role in promoting public health and raising awareness among students and staff.

The announcement was made during the regular December 2025 meeting of the University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector Council, chaired by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and attended by council members.

Professor Mohamed Adawy highlighted the sector’s activities and achievements in spreading awareness about sustainable development goals. He emphasized the University’s focus on environmental protection and safety, including the proper disposal of waste, energy and water conservation, and the full enforcement of smoking bans on campus, aligning with environmental regulations and the broader sustainable development agenda.

The meeting resulted in several key decisions, including the full implementation of the President’s recommendations regarding the elimination of smoking on university campuses, reinforcing the “Tobacco-Free Generation” initiative, and monitoring the timeline for a series of community outreach campaigns running from 2025 to January 2026.

Council members also reviewed various environmental and community issues, such as the damage caused by attaching signs and advertisements to trees and palm trees using nails or sharp tools, the importance of maintaining green spaces, organizing awareness campaigns on cybercrime and safe internet usage for secondary school students in Assiut (from October 26, 2025, to April 19, 2026), and reviewing precautionary measures to mitigate winter rainfall impacts.

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Commerce organized a seminar titled “Sustainable Development: Policies and Actors in Egypt’s Future”. The event was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Alaa Abdel-Hafiz, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, with participation from Dr. Amal El-Daly, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The seminar was attended by Mr. Hamdi Saeed, Director of the Assiut Media Directorate; Mr. Abdel-Qader Mehran, Faculty Secretary; Ms. Abir Gomaa Hussein, Director of the Assiut Media Complex; Ms. Fatma Ahmed Hussein, Deputy Director of the Media Complex; along with faculty members, staff, and students.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the seminar reflects the University’s commitment to supporting national efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and to instilling a culture of civic awareness and volunteerism among youth, as the cornerstone of Egypt’s future. He highlighted Assiut University’s efforts to integrate sustainability concepts into the educational process and student activities, and to foster cooperation with relevant institutions, thus contributing to building a socially conscious community that supports comprehensive development.

Professor Mohamed Adawy noted that volunteer work is a key partner in achieving sustainable development goals, due to its vital role in promoting environmental, social, and economic initiatives, and in encouraging youth participation in development processes. He affirmed that Assiut University integrates sustainability and volunteerism into its activities through awareness programs, community campaigns, and environmental initiatives, aiming to clarify national policies and highlight the role of stakeholders in promoting civic engagement aligned with Egypt’s development vision.

Professor Alaa Abdel-Hafiz stressed that the Faculty of Commerce seeks to prepare graduates who are socially responsible and capable of linking academic knowledge with sustainable development needs. The seminar discussed the importance of integrating volunteer work into development plans, its role in supporting the national economy, nurturing leadership skills among youth, and promoting values of cooperation and national belonging.

Professor Amal El-Daly added that the seminar forms part of the Faculty’s plan to spread awareness about sustainable development and volunteer work, strengthen partnerships with key institutions, including media organizations, and support national initiatives with tangible community impact. She highlighted the importance of student participation in volunteer projects and emphasized the need to sustain volunteer efforts by linking them to the state’s developmental objectives.

Mr. Hamdi Saeed commended the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Media and Assiut University in organizing awareness events that build civic consciousness in support of sustainable development and volunteerism. He stressed the pivotal role of media in promoting volunteer work, raising awareness of development issues, and highlighting successful initiatives and positive role models to inspire active youth participation in society.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to exchange ideas on sustainable development and volunteerism, noting their critical role in shaping Egypt’s future. They praised Assiut University for organizing such awareness initiatives, which enhance societal understanding and foster a culture of positive participation and national responsibility, underscoring the importance of cooperation between educational institutions, media, and civil society to empower youth and support national initiatives.

Assiut University Organizes Training Workshop on “Field Follow-Up Procedures for Environmental Practices and Sustainability”

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector organized today a training workshop titled “Field Follow-Up Procedures for Environmental Practices and Sustainability in Assiut University Colleges”. The workshop targeted the committee overseeing the “Best Environmentally Friendly College” initiative and was chaired by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with supervision by Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, Professor of Education and General Coordinator of the Committee. The initiative aligns with the University’s commitment to promoting sustainability and environmentally friendly practices across the campus.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the University’s dedication to embedding the principles of environmental sustainability, creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable campus environment, raising environmental awareness, enhancing institutional performance, and supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Mohamed Adawy highlighted that the committee follows a structured plan to monitor and evaluate environmental practices across all university colleges. Key assessment areas include infrastructure, green spaces, transportation, waste management, and recycling initiatives. These criteria aim to foster a sustainable campus environment and encourage healthy competition among colleges, reflecting their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The workshop included presentations by:

  • Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, who detailed administrative procedures for college visits, technical aspects of evaluating environmental practices, and assessment indicators for green areas, transportation, and specialized units.
  • Professor Mohamed Abdel-Baset, Professor at the Faculty of Specific Education and University Safety and Occupational Health Supervisor, who presented safety and occupational health indicators, maintenance and safe storage procedures, and evaluation models.
  • Professor Amr Deif, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Academic Coordinator of the Committee, who discussed types of university waste, collection, sorting, evaluation, recycling methods, water conservation, and reuse mechanisms.

The workshop was attended by members of the “Best Environmentally Friendly College” Committee, comprising distinguished faculty from across Assiut University, reinforcing the University’s commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence on campus.
