Health Literacy Program about Health Risk Behaviors among the Elderly in Geriatric Clubs at Assist City, Egypt

Research Abstract
Abstract: Background: Elderly people with inadequate health literacy are less mindful of health behaviors significance. Study aim: to detect the effect of health literacy program on health risk behaviors among the elderly. Methodology: Quasi-experimental design was used; the study was carried out at two geriatric clubs (Geriatric club in Legitimacy Assembly and Geriatric club of Islamic cultural center). The program was conducted on participants with low health literacy level; their number was 150 older adults. Tools: four tools were utilized. Tool I: Self-administered questionnaire: It includes the socio-demographic characteristics and questions related to health risk behaviors. Tool II: Body mass index calculation. Tool III: Health Literacy Assessment Scale. Tool IV: Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine Scale (REALM). Results: adequate health literacy level score increases from 0 at pretest to 78.7%, 76% respectively at post test & follow up test. Also, there was a significant difference between pre and post-test regarding health literacy level P 0.0001. Conclusion: Low health literacy is associated with health behaviors and poor adherence of prescribed medications. Recommendation: Evidence-based communication strategies as ‘teach back’ method are more effective with clients.

Effect of physical activities program on stress level
among elderly women

Research Abstract
The health benefits of physical activity and exercise are well documented and these effects could help elderly individual. This study aimed to assess stress level and implement Physical activities program to elevate stress among elderly women. Subjects and method: This study was conducted at geriatric clubs at Assiut city. The study included forty two elderly women randomly assigned to intervention Each elderly women was evaluated through bio socio demographic characteristics and Perception of life stressors questioners. Results showed that there were statistically significant improvement in pre and post physical activities program on stress level among elderly women. The study concluded that application physical activity program for elderly women with stress have significant therapeutic effect on stress symptom among elderly women. Recommendation: Physical exercises to be apart of activities of daily living for elderly women and health education for elderly women about important of regular Physical exercises.

Effect of Nursing Intervention Guidelines on Elderly's Knowledge Regarding Protection from Heat Wave at the Main Assiut University Hospital

Research Abstract
Background: The extreme heat can cause heat stress or heat stroke and poses dangerous effects on the brain and can end in death among elderly. Aim: To implement nursing intervention guidelines for the elderly's about protection from heat wave and evaluate its effect on elderly knowledge. Subjects and method: Quasi experimental research design was used. This study was conducted at chronic diseases outpatient clinics (diabetic clinic, internal medicine clinics, chest and cardiology clinics,) at the main Assiut University hospital. Results: Showed that (75.6%) and (78%) were illiterate and from rural areas respectively, (92.1%) of them did not know the health hazards of heat wave on elderly's health and (55%) of them did not know the measures to cool the body during heat stress before application of nursing guidelines and these percent reached zero after implementation of the nursing guidelines. Conclusion: There is improvement of the elderly's knowledge about protection from heat wave after application of nursing intervention guidelines regardless of the demographic data. Recommendation: Publication and dissemination of counseling program in all rural health units and primary health care centers to raise awareness of the elderly and their families regarding signs of heat stress, measures of protection from heat wave, health hazards of heat wave among elderly especially during summer months. __________________________________________________

Health Education Program on Diabetic Foot Care for Elderly in Some Rural area of Assiut City

Research Abstract
Abstract: Diabetic patient education on appropriate self-care play a key role in preventing foot complications. The aim of this study was to estimate the effectiveness of an educational program on diabetic foot care for elderly. Quasi experimental research design was utilized. The study was conducted at four rural villages in Assiut city. The total number of participants was 100 diabetic elderly patients which chosen by a multi- stage sampling technique. Two tools were developed by the researchers; tool I: A structured interview questionnaire include two parts, 1st Part included demographic data. The 2nd part included questions for assessing foot self-care knowledge, tool II: an observational checklist to assess the elderly' practice regarding foot care. The results revealed that 85.0% of the studied elderly are diabetic since 5-10 years and (91.0%) of them hadn’t diabetes foot. Good score of elderly` knowledge about foot care in pre, post and follow up were (0.0%, 21.0% and 16.0% respectively). Also (4.0%, 93.0% and 63.0% respectively) had satisfactory score of practice in pre, post and follow up, with a statistically significant difference in pre and post tests and in pre and follow up tests. The study concluded that there is a serious lack of diabetic foot care knowledge and practice among the studied elderly. Health education intervention succeeded in improving them which suggest the essential foot care education should be acquainted to a larger group in different health care centers over a longer period of time. Advanced research is recommended to determine at whether the increases in foot care practices should be implemented and re-enforced.

KeRelation between Nutritional Status and Chronic Diseases among Elderly at Assiut City

Research Abstract
Abstract The occurrence of chronic diseases weakens the activity of the elderly and affects the nutritional status which exposes them to the risk of malnutrition as a result of poor health. The study aimed to assess the relation between nutritional status and chronic diseases among elderly at Assiut City. Subject and method: Descriptive cross sectional research design, Convenient sample were used in this study. The study was conducted on 1033 patients in outpatients' clinics at main Assiut university hospital. The study included two tools; the first included socio-demographic, medical history, nutritional habits and oral health, while the second mini-nutritional assessment scale. Results: 59.5% of the studied sample suffering from hypertension, while 36.5%, 37.4%of them had diabetes mellitus and orthopedic diseases respectively, and 65.1% of studied sample had mild Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). Also 63.1% of studied sample at risk for malnutrition, and 30.7% were well-nourished. The study concluded that There were a significant relation between mini-nutritional assessment scale and different chronic diseases. The study Recommended that: Establish periodically nutritional assessment of elderly to identify at risk by using Mini-Nutritional Assessment scale and develop continuous health education program for elderly and their caregiver about nutritional need specifically with chronic diseases.

Colorectal Cancer: Consequences of Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting on
Patients’ Functional Daily Living

Research Abstract
Abstract The aim of this study: To assess consequences due to chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting on patients’ functional daily living. Research design: Descriptive design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted in the internal oncology department at Qena Health Insurance Hospital. Sample: Forty-eight male and female patients admitted in the internal oncology department of the above mentioned hospital. Tools: Tool (I): Patient assessment sheet. Tool (II): Functional Living Index for Emesis (FLIE) Questionnaire. Results: About one third of studied patients suffered from consequences in the form of malnutrition, electrolyte imbalance, Mallory_ Weiss Syndrome (31.3%), delayed treatment, salivation and fever, high antiemetic cost, ( 33.3%,18.8%, 20.8% respectively)which reflected on their functional daily living as 97% had worse condition before chemotherapy and all patents had worse condition of functional daily living after chemotherapy too.Conclusion: Consequences due to Chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting had a maximum impact on nearly all patients’ functional daily living either before or after chemotherapy. Recommendation: Colorectal cancer patients who receive chemotherapy in need to intensive nursing care and appropriate strategies to manage chemotherapy side effects and consequences related to these side effects which can improve their functional daily living.
