Impact of Health Intervention about Foot Self-Care Behavior among Adult and Elderly Diabetic Patients'

Research Abstract

Background: Diabetic patients with poor health behaviors are at greater risk for a range of adverse health problem. Diabetes foot problems can be avoided by practicing self-care. Study aim: evaluate the impact of health intervention about foot self-care behavior among adult and elderly diabetic patients'. Subjects and Methods: Quasiexperimental design pre and late posttest was applied in Internal and the outpatient clinic at main Assiut university hospital. The sample size: This study included purposeful sampling, with a total of 80 diabetic participant. Data collection tools: Interviewing questionnaire included personal characteristics, medical data, Diabetic Foot Self-care behavior scale and Health Intervention through International Working Group Diabetic Foot. Results: Mean ±SD of Diabetes Mellitus duration was 10.7 ±8.2 years, significance difference between the total score of foot self-care behavior in pre and late posttest with a mean ± SD (42.8 ±6.96 and74.04±29.11) respectively. Also, between selfcare behavior of the studied sample and their knowledge level in pre & late posttest (P. value= 0.061 & 0.001) respectively Conclusion: Health intervention have a positive significant impact on the studied sample self- care behavior regarding diabetic foot. Recommendations: Provision of comprehensive foot care and intervention for diabetic patients with foot ulcers in order to avoid complications.

The Effectiveness of Pilates Exercise Program during pregnancy on Maternal Outcomes at Assiut City

Research Abstract

Background: Pregnancy is one of the most anticipated moments in women's lives. However, biological and physiological changes cause a lot of discomfort. Pilates exercise one of the fastest-growing modalities of exercise relief and welfare to these women. Aim of the study: Evaluate the effectiveness of Pilates exercise program during pregnancy on maternal outcomes in maternal and child health care centers at Assiut City. Setting: The study was carried out in two maternal and child health care centers which selected randomly namely El-waledia and Gharb Elbald health care centers. Methods: A Quasi experimental research design (pre and posttest) and Purposeful sample were utilized in this study; A total of 53 pregnant women. Tools of the study: Interviewing questionnaire; it included three tools: Tool I: divided into three parts: personal data, medical and obstetrical history, current pregnancy and labour data. Tool II: Visual Analogue scale to assess back and leg pain. Tool III: Revised Urinary Incontinence Scale. Results: 50.9% of studied sample aged ≥30 years old, 73.6%, and 45.1% of them were multigravida and primipara respectively. 69.8% didn’t practice exercise and the mean ±SD of gestational weeks was (27.23 ± 2.18).There was statistically significant relation between leg pain, urinary incontinence before and after exercise (P value=0.000) among studied sample. Conclusion: The Pilates exercise program had significant effect on improving maternal outcomes. Recommendations: Health care providers should encourage pregnant women to engage in physical activity including Pilate's exercise which have been shown more benefits for most women

Knowledge and Attitudes of Students toward Fast Food in Assiut University

Research Abstract

Background: Consumption of fast foods has become a hallmark of modern urban and semi- urban life style that have many adverse effects on health. Aim: To assess knowledge and attitudes of students toward fast food in Assiut university. Subject and Method: a descriptive cross sectional research design was used. The study conducted at four faculties of Assiut University among 1217 students who were selected by simple random sample. Tools: In this study utilized three tools for gathering data: the first tool; a structured self-administered questionnaire which included socio-demographic characteristic scale, knowledge and consumption of fast food, the second tool; attitude toward fast food and the last tool; anthropometric measurements. Results: It was found that 63.3% of studied students were males and 52.9% of them with middle socioeconomic class. Also the study cleared that 91.9%from students having fast food, whereas a positive correlation between total score of student’s knowledge and attitude toward fast food with statistical significant difference between having fast food, knowledge and attitude. Conclusions: the outcome of present study concluded that lack of students' knowledge and had positive attitude about fast food. Recommendation: Periodic health education programs regarding effects of fast food on health

Relation between psychological problems, fear and anxiety, with COVID-19 pandemic and the quality of life among pregnant women

Research Abstract

Background: Pregnant women's fear and anxiety about COVID-19 are increasing which reducing the social performance and quality of life. Aim: explore the relation between psychological problems, fear and anxiety, with COVID-19 pandemic and the quality of life among pregnant women. Design: Descriptive research design. Setting: The study carried out in the antenatal out-patients clinic at Women' Health Hospital, Assiut University. Sample: Included 350 pregnant women. Tools: Four tools were used; Tool (1): Structured interviewing questionnaire, Tool (2): Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S). Tool (3): COVID-19 Anxiety Scale (CAS) and Tool (4): Pregnant women's quality of life questionnaire. Results: 55.4% and 45.7% of mothers aged 25-30years and had secondary education respectively. 45.4% of them had low fear level of COVID 19. While, 26.9% of the pregnant women; were had high anxiety level. Conclusion: There were positive correlation between fear and anxiety about COVID 19 and pregnant women quality of life. There were statistical significance differences between pregnant women educational level, occupation, residence and gestational age with their quality of life. Recommendations: Further researches should be conducted to implement intervention program to alleviate the level of fear and anxiety about COVID-19 to improve pregnant women quality of life

Impact of Strengthening and Balance Training Exercise on Fall Risk among Elderly at Assiut Geriatric Clubs

Research Abstract

Abstract: Background: Ageing related decline in muscle mass and strength with subsequent muscle weakness has been associated with increased risk of falls in older adults. Strengthening and balance training are currently recommended for older persons to improve muscle mass, strength, and eventually, independence in daily living activities. Aim of the study: to determine the impact of strengthening and balance exercises on postural balance and fall risk among Elderly at Assiut Geriatric clubs. Subject and methods: A quasiexperimental pre and post-test research design was utilized in this study. The study sample included 88 elderly selected from Assiut geriatric clubs. Tools: Data was collected by utilizing a designed interview questionnaire sheet that included two tools; one for collection of demographic data and medical problems, and the other included Berg Balance Scale (BBS) to assess the balance status of the elderly Results: 80.7% of the elderly had high risk for falling in pre-test while this score decreased to30.7%after exercise. There was statistically significant difference between pre and post-test among participants (P= 0.000). Conclusion: the balance status of the elderly improved after the application of the strengthening and balance training exercises compared to the pre-test results according to berg balance scale. Recommendation: Increasing public awareness and educating the elderly and their caregiver about the importance of strengthening and balance training exercise to reduce the risk of falls.

TEACHERS' PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDES TOWARD ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS AT ASSIUT CITY

Research Abstract

Background: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the name of a group of behaviors found in many children and adults. Children with ADHD have trouble paying attention in school or at home. Children may be much more active and/or impulsive than what is usual for their age; these behaviors contribute to significant problems in relationships, learning and behavior. Aim of the work: The study aimed to assess knowledge and attitude of teachers toward (ADHD). Subjects and Methods: The study was descriptive cross sectional research design; it was conducted in ten public primary schools at Assiut city which selected randomly and the sample size was (360). Three tools used in the present study, the first tool include personal characteristics of the participants, the second tool Knowledge of Attention Deficit Disorder Scale (KADDS) to measure teachers’ knowledge and perceptions about ADHD and the last tool teachers' attitudes scale toward children with ADHD to assess teachers’ beliefs and attitudes toward ADHD. Results: The main findings of the study were more than two fifth (42.2%) of teachers had pervious dealing with ADHD and more than three quarters (76.1%) of them had unsatisfactory level of knowledge; while more than half (55.0%) of teachers had positive attitude toward ADHD. Also there was statistical significant correlation (r=0.249 & P= 0.000*) between total score of teachers' knowledge and attitude toward ADHD. Conclusion: The present study concluded that the teachers had poor knowledge while attitude of them were positive. Recommendation: The study recommended that teachers' knowledge must be improved by implementing the educational program about ADHD.

Assessment of Knowledge and Attitude of Students regarding to Food allergy at Assuit University

Research Abstract

 

Background:  Food Allergy is an abnormal response to a food protein triggered by the body’s immune system. Aim of the study: To assess knowledge and attitude of university students about   food allergy. Research design: descriptive research design was used in this study. Setting: The study was conducted in 4 randomly selected faculties at Assiut University (Faculty of Social Work, Computers and Information, Arts and Veterinary Medicine).Total sample 931.  Two tools was used (first tool) A structured self-administered questionnaire consisted of two part; first part included personal characteristic data .The second part included assessment of knowledge about food allergy. (second tool) likert scale to assess attitude  toward food allergy. Results: Finding revealed that more than two fifth of them their age were 20-21 years old. About three quarter of studied students had poor score of knowledge, while only 4.9% of them had good score of knowledge. Conclusion: The study concluded that there were lack of knowledge about food allergy. There was a statistical significant difference between sex, mother's education and their knowledge. Recommendation: The study recommended that develop  plan, and  implement health education programs for university students about food allergy and Increase  the amount of periodicals and books in the different libraries regarding food allergy.
