Effect of Psychological First Aid Training Program on Nurses Knowledge, Skills and Attitude at Psychiatric Out Patients Clinic

Abstract: Providing psychological first aid (PFA) is generally considered to be an important element in psychiatric outpatient care of mental disorders is of utmost importance which affect knowledge, attitude and skill of psychiatric nurses and foster recovery of psychiatric patients. The study aimed to determine the effect of psychological first aid training program on nurses' knowledge, skills and attitude. Setting, this study conducted at psychiatric out patient clinic in mental health hospital Assiut City. Methods: A convenience sample included fifteen psychiatric nurses working at psychiatric out patient clinic, Quasi experimental research design was used, Tools: self-administered questionnaire scales for assessment of psychological first aid, psychiatric disorders, attitude toward psychiatric disorder and skills scales, this tool was used before program implementation, immediate post, and 3 months after the program. Results: there was significant improvement in knowledge, attitude and skills related to psychological first aid and psychiatric disorders of the entire nurses after implementation of the program, While, at the follow-up of the program all nurses have some deterioration in all the areas in all areas of knowledge, skills and attitude towards psychiatric disorders. There were statistically significant differences between nurses’ their job satisfactions and experience years and their knowledge, skills and attitude throughout the program in all stages of test (P< 0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that; the implemented program about psychological First Aid Training Program had a significant impact on Nurses' knowledge, skills and attitude toward psychological first aid and psychiatric disorder management. Recommendations: Developing educational material sensitive to community mental health nurses about psychological first aid and psychiatric disorders.

Faculty of Nursing, Assiut University witnesses the 38th Alumni Day ceremony. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, stressed the university administration’s continuous efforts to increase advanced and specialized educational programs

according to international academic standards in line with the fourth generation smart universities.    

To meet the needs of the labor market for new graduates qualified with modern cognitive and technical capabilities locally, regionally and internationally, and with a vision and future planning to support the advancement of young students and researchers from the university’s sons and to support the Egyptian society in a way that achieves national goals in various sectors, especially the medical sector. The university, in turn, is keen to prepare a distinguished graduate capable of competing in the labor market. This came in response to the launch of the 38th Alumni Day celebration organized by the Faculty of Nursing under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, which witnessed the attendance of Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Samah Mohamed Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Fatima Rushdi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Nahid Shawkat Abu El-Majd, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Ekram Ibrahim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies, Ms. Nabila Fikry, Head of the Nursing Syndicate Branch for Assiut Governorate, and a group of faculty members at the faculty, with the participation of graduates of the batch and their parents. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla stressed that this celebration is a source of pride for the university and the students themselves, stressing that the nursing profession has become an important and noble profession worldwide, advising the graduates to represent the university in the best way in all the hospitals in which they will work, stressing the university's keenness to provide all means of support and care for them and to help them perform their mission in the most complete manner, wishing them further progress and excellence in their academic and professional lives. Dr. Samah Abdullah expressed her happiness at the graduation of the thirty-eighth batch of her children and congratulated the new graduates on their wedding day today and as a culmination of their efforts and continuous work during the past years, as well as their parents who have done them a favor and are reaping the fruits of what they have planted over successive years of sound upbringing and righteous planting, expressing her happiness and pride in the graduation of a new batch of scientific stature of nursing who join the white army and are qualified to carry out their humanitarian and national duty, stressing the importance of their work and the nobility of their message, hoping for good in them for this country and recommending them to make every effort to provide the necessary medical care for patients. Dr. Fatima Rushdi congratulated the graduates and recommended that they continue working, learning, acquiring skills, developing skills, and continuing to strive for progress. They are now on a new journey in their professional lives. They are required to work hard and work continuously to serve their country and advance the entire medical system, as they are an essential element in it. They should be characterized by good morals, honesty, and mercy in their dealings with patients. Our patients, our people and relatives, need our kindness as much as they need our treatment. They should keep their humane covenant and their consciences always present with them and in front of their eyes throughout the years of performing their work.

of the 38th batch of the students of the Faculty of Nursing, and honored the top students of the batch; Under the supervision of: Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Samah Mohamed Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty.
The graduation ceremony was attended by: Dr. Fatima Rushdi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ikram Ibrahim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Nahed Shawkat Abu El-Majd, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Nabila Fikry, Head of the Nursing Syndicate in Assiut Governorate, Dr. Hekmat Ibrahim Abdel Karim, Coordinator of Student Activities at the Faculty, Dr. Hanaa Mohamed, General Coordinator of Excellence at the Faculty, and a group of faculty members and the administrative staff of the Faculty.
Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, congratulated; Graduates of the 38th batch of the College of Nursing; stressing: The university administration is keen to build a real model of distinguished cadres in the nursing sector; capable of performing a distinguished service of high quality; due to the importance of the role played by nursing within the medical system, noting that the recovery of the patient, or the success of surgical operations does not depend only on the doctor, but nursing plays a decisive role in the success of treatment, directing greetings to the families of the graduates for their efforts with their children, throughout their study period. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla expressed his happiness to participate with the graduates in their graduation ceremony, stressing: The graduates of the College of Nursing: are an addition to the medical sector in the region; and they must adhere to ethical and professional values ​​in dealing with patients, extending his sincere thanks to the academic staff at the college, and to the parents of the students; for their great effort in caring for, raising, and educating their children, which was crowned today; with their success, and celebrating their graduation. For her part; Dr. Samah Abdullah pointed out the great support that the College of Nursing and its various departments receive from the university administration; Affirming the college administration's keenness to continue working and exerting more effort in order to graduate highly skilled and efficient students on the scientific, professional and human levels, wishing the graduates success and good luck as they take their first steps in practical life.
Dr. Fatima Rushdi called on the students to benefit from their years of study at the college, develop their skills, and always be aware of the latest medical developments in the modern era.
Dr. Nabila Fikry pointed out the distinguished level of graduates of the Faculty of Nursing at Assiut University, stressing that they are a strong and effective addition to the medical sector, wishing them success and success in their upcoming professional life.
Sara Muhammad, the first student in batch (38), also expressed her happiness at crowning the effort of five years of work and diligence with this special day, extending her sincere thanks and appreciation to the faculty members and their assistants who spared no effort in supporting batch (38). Expressing her gratitude to the students' parents, who spared no effort or time in supporting their children throughout their years of study at the college.

At the end of the ceremony, the college leaders were honored, and graduation shields were handed over to the top students and graduates of the batch.
