Knowledge and Associated Risk Factors of Knee Osteoarthritis among School Teachers at Assiut City

Research Abstract

Background and aim: Knee osteoarthritis considered as a foremost cause of disability globally, with a substantial societal impact and an increasing financial burden on healthcare systems. School teachers estimated as one of the professions with a high frequency of occupational musculoskeletal illnesses. The study aimed to assess knowledge and associated risk factors of knee osteoarthritis among school teachers. Subjects and Method: Descriptive cross-sectional design. Setting: Nine schools representing 10% of the total Assiut City schools which selected randomly. Sample: Total of 749 teachers. Study tools: Two tools were used; Tool (I): Five parts; personal data, chronic diseases, data of knee pain, risk factors of knee osteoarthritis and school teachers knowledge. Tool (II): Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score scale. Results: It found that 42.6% aged 40 -< 50, 56.9% female and 80.2% were overweight and obese, 51.3% of teachers suffering from knee pain and 70.2% had poor knowledge which affected by age, educational level, residence and years of experience. As well as, pain and symptoms subscales of Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome were significantly linked with age, sex and body mass index. Conclusion and recommendations: There were deficient of knowledge about knee osteoarthritis. Furthermore, the most significant risk factors were age, female sex, urban residence, body mass index more than or equal 25 (kg/m2 ), married status, presence of chronic diseases, education and family history. It was recommended that health education program about knee osteoarthritis should be provided for school teachers.

Nurses' perception regarding nursing practice environment and its effects on intention to quit

Research Abstract

The nursing practice environment is a predominant factor that affects nurses’ decisions to quit or stay. Aim: to assess the
nurses' perception regarding the nursing practice environment and its effect on the intention to quit. Methods: It's a
descriptive correlational study design. The samples of the present study include [360] nurses from selected hospitals.
Three tools were used; namely, 1) A demographic sheet 2) A practice Environment Scale, and 3) An intention to quit
questionnaire. Results: The majority of the nurses perceptions are mixed concerning the practice environment (78.9%).
the highest percentage of nurses' perceive a better practice environment in El Rajehy hospital (46.7%), while, the lowest
percentage of them is in the main hospital (2.2%). About (67.5%) of the nurses had the intention to quit. Conclusion:
There was a negative correlation between the intention to quit and the total practice environment with highly statistically
significant differences (P. value <0.01).

Effect of Employees Advocacy and Loyalty on Job Embeddedness among Nursing Staff

Research Abstract

Background: Employees who perceive their organizations as valuing their contributions will reciprocate with favorable attitudes (as loyalty, advocacy, retention, job embeddedness, satisfaction). Aims: Assess the level of employee's advocacy, loyalty and job embeddedness among nursing staff and assess the effect of employee advocacy and loyalty on job embeddedness among nursing staff. Study design: A descriptive correlational approach was used. Setting: This study was done at Assiut University Main Hospital. Subject and Methods: All 300 nurses working in the surgical and medical departments of the Assiut University Main Hospital were the study's subjects. The data was collected through self - administered questionnaire which includes individual characteristics data, employee advocacy and loyalty scale, and job embeddedness questionnaire. Results: There are strong positive correlations among all study variables with highly statistically significance difference. Conclusion: Advocacy and loyalty have significant effect on job embeddedness. Recommendation: Managers should set up mentoring initiatives to improve relationships with the organization and should be advocate, supportive, and guides the employees in all situations.
