Decision Support Systems as a Moderator for the Relationship between Tacit Knowledge and Strategic Decision Quality among Nurse Managers

Research Abstract

Background: Leveraging Decision Support Systems (DSS) enhances nurses' access to tacit knowledge, eventually enhancing the quality of their strategic decision-making in patient care. Aim: To investigate the nurse managers' perception about decision support systems (DSS) as a moderator affect the relationship between tacit knowledge and strategic decision quality. Design: Descriptive correlational design. Setting: 12 hospitals affiliated to Assiut University. Subject: All nurse managers (N=255) working at Assiut University Hospitals. Study tools: Tacit knowledge scale, Decision support systems scale and Strategic decisions quality scale. Results: There was a positive correlation between decision support systems, tacit knowledge and strategic decision quality. Conclusion: Decision support systems play a moderator role in enhancing the relationship between tacit knowledge and strategic decision quality. Recommendations: Conducting training programs on nurses’ abilities to leverage DSS for strategic decision-making. Applying future studies at different health care settings to generalize the results.

Effect of mindfulness training program on well-being and leadership skills of psychiatric nurses

Research Abstract

Background: Nursing leaders need mindfulness, which is an effective intervention for reducing stress, promoting well-being, and enhancing their leadership skills. Purpose: To explore the effect of a mindfulness training program on the well-being and leadership skills of head nurses. Methods: A quasi-study design was used and conducted in a psychiatric and neurological university hospital on a convenience sample of 40 head nurses. Using the cognitive and affective mindfulness scale, the mindful attention awareness scale, the leadership skills questionnaire, and the mindfulness program. Findings: The findings resulted in a significant difference in the effect of the mindfulness program before and after training when applied to leadership skills, especially conceptual and administrative skills. Discussion: Managers must adopt a mindfulness program, integrate it into nursing intervention protocols, and circulate it to all nursing staff because it has a noticeable impact if it is practiced seriously and its results are benefited from.

Effectiveness of Educational Program for Nurses about Patient Safety Values, Attitudes and Competency

Research Abstract

Background: Patient safety is the core indicator of nursing quality. Nursing competency abilities required for performing one’s role as a nurse with knowledge, attitudes and skills. Aim: The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of educational program for nurses about patient safety values, attitudes and competency. Design: A quasi-experimental design. Setting: Intensive care and emergency units at Main Assiut University Hospital. Study subjects: Nurses working in intensive care and emergency units with experience less than one year (No= 55). Study tools: Data were gathered through four tools namely (1): Personal & job characteristics, (2): Patient Safety Value Questionnaire, (3): Patient Safety Attitudes Questionnaire, and (4): Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey Results: There were highly statistically significant differences between pre, post &follow up of the program related to nurses' knowledge about patient safety values, attitudes and competency. Conclusion: There were marked improvements in nurses' knowledge regarding patient safety value, attitude and competence immediately after implementation of the educational program. Recommendation: Implement of patient safety culture in healthcare organization according to policies, guidelines, and protocols.

Developing and Implementing an Educational Program for Academic Teaching Staff about Digital Hologram Technology as an Active Learning Strategy

Research Abstract

Background: Holographic projection is the new wave of technology that will change how we view things in the future; it will have tremendous effects on all fields of life including education and science. Aim: To develop and implement an educational program for academic teaching staff about digital hologram technology as an active learning strategy. Design: A quasi-experimental design. Setting: Faculty of Nursing at Assiut University. Study subjects: All academic teaching staff (No= 113). Study tools: Tool (1): Demographic and work-related characteristics: including age, educational degree, marital status, and years of experience. Tool (2): Hologram questionnaire: used to measure knowledge of academic teaching staff about digital Hologram. Tool (3): Program implementation & evaluation sheet it developed by the researchers and which consisted of outcome of the program. Results: the highest mean score was in post educational program in all items and highly statistically significant differences between the studied subject in knowledge pre, post and follows up. Conclusion: There were marked improvements in participants' knowledge immediately after implementation of the educational program. Recommendation: Further research studies are needed to evaluate academic staff skills of hologram technology, assess administrative interventions to manage organizational technology to applicants this phenomenon. _________________________

The Mediating Role of Proactive Personality in Job Crafting and it's Impact on Nurses' Anticipated Turnover

Research Abstract

Background: Today, it has been increasingly recognized that job crafting is an important employee proactive organizational behavior which leads to various valuable outcomes for both organizations and employees. Aim: To assess the mediating role of proactive personality in job crafting and it's impact on nurses' anticipated turnover .Design: A descriptive correlational design. Setting: The Main Assiut University Hospital's ICUs served as the study's location. Subjects: All nurses working in ICUs at Main Assiut University Hospital with total number (no= 273). Study tool: Included tool (1): Personal characteristics tool (2): Job crafting scale, tool (3): Anticipated turnover scale (ATS) and tool (4): Proactive personality scale. Result: There are nearly half of the studied nurses have moderate level of job crafting and the highest mean scores as regarding to total job crafting. While the lowest mean scores was related to total proactive personality. Conclusion: There are negative correlations between nurses' age and years of experience with anticipated turnover, proactive personality, and job crafting with highly statistical significance differences between nurses' age with proactive personality and between years of experience with proactive personality and job crafting. Recommendation: Design recruitment process that emphasis on evaluating nurses' proactive personalities and willingness to adjust to new situations

Proposed A Job Description for Nurses Using Health Information Systems

Research Abstract

A health information system (HIS) is a comprehensive, integrated and specialized system that manages both administrative and clinical aspects of hospitals and healthcare information facilities. Aim: Proposed a job description model for nurses who use hospital information systems. Study subjects: All available ICU nurses at Al-Rajhy Hospital who are using HIS (no = 26). Study tools: Three tools were used, namely, personal data sheet, diary and observational performance checklist. Result: The majority of the nurses in the study recorded vital signs, assessed the patient’s condition, made beds, and documented patient data electronically. Conclusion: The majority of the subject is responsible for all aspects of attendance and punctuality, appearance, work habits, staff relations and communications with patients, nursing care plan activities, material planning, safety measures and patient safety, documentation electronically, coordination, and staying technically up to date. Recommendation: A job description should be added to the HIS user manual and distributed widely to support the nursing staff. Continuing training workshops for new HIS users should be established to improve their computer skills. Keywords: Health information system, Job description, Nursing informatics.

Current Performance Appraisal System and its Relation to their Intent to Leave and Empowerment among Nursing Staff

Research Abstract

Background: An employee's strengths and flaws are revealed through the performance appraisal system, empowering and assisting them in making decisions about his career and intend to depart. Aim: Assess the effect of current performance appraisal system on staff nurses intent to leave and empowerment. Design: Descriptive correlational Setting: Main Assiut University hospital and Al-Eman Health governorate hospital. Study subjects: convenient sample (n=540) Nursing staff were employed at setting previously stated. Study tools: Three tools were used, Tool 1: Contains 1st part Personal data sheet with Personal characteristics, 2nd part: Performance Appraisal System Questionnaire, Tool II: Nurses' Empowerment Questionnaire, Tool III: Intent to leave Questionnaire. Results: The highest mean scores of performance appraisal perception were related to fairness of performance, there was a statistically significant positive association between the empowerment and departure intention of staff nurses. Conclusion: Greater than two thirds of the study subjects had high perception of current performance evaluation system and most of them empowered and the great majority of them hadn’t intent to leave. Recommendation: Use performance appraisal system to be compatible with Egyptian sustainable development goals.

Personal Hygiene Awareness among Visually Impaired El-Nour School Female Students

Research Abstract

Abstracts: Background: Females with visual impairment require continuous support in their personal hygiene practices. They are particularly at risk due to the challenges on access to health information. Aim: To assess personal hygiene awareness among visually impaired El-Nour school female students. Design: A cross-sectional descriptive design. Setting: This study was conducted in El-Nour school at Sohag Governorate. Sample: A cluster random sample of 55 visually impaired adolescent students. Tools: Three tools were used to collect data. Tool one included two parts; part one: personal characteristics and part two: visually impaired female students’ knowledge about personal hygiene. Tool two: Included two parts; part one: The personal hygiene behavior scale and Part two: The Genital Hygiene Behaviors scale. Tool three: Reported practices about hand washing, teeth brushing and perineal care. Results: It was found that 52.7% of the studied students had unsatisfactory knowledge of personal hygiene, 78.2% & 63.6% had negative personal and genital hygiene behavior respectively and 67.3% had unsatisfactory reported practices about hand washing, teeth brushing and perineal care. Also, there were statistically significant differences between visually impaired female students’ level of knowledge about personal hygiene and their father's education, mother’s education, father's occupation and mother's occupation (P value = 0.000, 0.001, 0.013 and 0.001) respectively. Conclusion: the studied findings revealed that visually impaired female student had unsatisfactory knowledge about personal hygiene and they had negative personal and genital hygiene behavior. Recommendation: Educational program about personal hygiene habits should be provided for visually impaired female students in the early age.

Prevalence of Smoking and Students' Knowledge about Oral Cavity, and Oropharyngeal Cancer at Assiut Universit

Research Abstract

Abstracts: Background: Globally public health concerns about oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer are growing. It is a debilitating disease that may result in severe impacts on a patient's emotional, functional, and financial aspects while also significantly reducing their quality of life. Aim of the study: Assess prevalence of smoking and students' knowledge about oral cavity, and oropharyngeal cancer at Assiut University. Methodology: In this study, a descriptive research design was used. Sample: The total 925 students from Assiut University participated in the current study, which used multistage random samples. The study utilized two instruments: Tool I was a self-administered questionnaire on the student's personal characteristics; Tool II part one was a knowledge test covering the effects of smoking on the oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer part two the prevalence of smoking. Results: It indicated that 19.2% of students were smokers. and 4.9% of students had a good knowledge score about oral cavity, and oropharyngeal cancer, while 74.9% of students had a poor knowledge score, Conclusion: The students knowledge regarding oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer, and the adverse effects of smoking on the oral cavity is insufficient. Recommendation: An educational program should be given for university students about smoking, oral health, and oropharyngeal cancer.

Knowledge and Reported Practice of Visually Impaired El-Nour School Female Students about Menstrual Hygiene at Sohag Governorate

Research Abstract

Abstracts: Background: Visually impaired female students have the vast efforts to maintain proper menstrual hygiene. Aim: The study aimed to assess knowledge and reported practice of visually impaired El-Nour school female students about menstrual hygiene at Sohag Governorate. Study design: A descriptive cross sectional research design was utilized in the study. Setting: The study was carried out in El-Nour school in Sohag Governorate. Sample: A cluster random sample of fifty-five (55) visually impaired female students. Tools: Tool one included two parts; part one included personal characteristics and part two included visually impaired female students’ knowledge about menstrual hygiene. Tool two included the genital hygiene behaviors scale. Tool three included reported practice about perineal care. Results: 58.2% of visually impaired female students had unsatisfactory knowledge about menstrual hygiene, 63.6% of them had negative genital hygiene behavior and 74.5% of them had unsatisfactory reported practice about perineal care. Conclusion: Visually impaired female student had unsatisfactory knowledge about menstrual hygiene and negative genital hygiene behavior. Also, they had unsatisfactory score of reported practice about perineal care. Recommendation: Training and educational program about menstrual hygiene should be provided for visually impaired female students.
