Assessment Types of Mistreatment among Elderly Patients with Chronic Diseases

Research Abstract

Background: Mistreatment is prevalent grievance among senior citizens. Aim of the study: To assess types of mistreatment among elderly patients with chronic diseases. Research design: This study employed a descriptive research approach. Setting: The research was conducted in outpatient Al- Azhar University Hospital clinics. Sample: The overall size of the sample was 420 patients Tools: To gather information for this, three tools were used. The 1st instrument: Structured interview questionnaire for patients include personal characteristics and assessment of medical history, the 2nd tool: Hwalek – Sengstock Elder Abuse Screaning Test, the 3rd tool: Geriatric Mistreatment Scale. Results: Showed that 44.5% of studies elderly patient had hypertension, and only 28.6%, 18.1% of them had diabetes and heart disease respectively. The majority of elderly patient were non abuse 85.7% and only 14.3% of them were abuse. Conclusion: The majority of elderly patient were non abuse and only one quarter of them were abuse. Recommendations: offering educational programs to help senior citizens learn more about types and risk factors of mistreatment especially among elderly with chronic disease. Family and caregiver

Today, Professor Dr. Fatma Rushdi Mohamed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, announced the results for the master's degree for June 2025. Professor Dr. Marzouka Abdel-Aziz, Head of the Examination Control, indicated that the pass rates are as follows:

  • First level: 100% pass rate
  • Second level: 87% pass rate
  • Third level: 83% pass rate

Seminar on Health Awareness and First Aid Principles for the "Leader Aware" Camp Assiut University Concludes Activities of the "Leader Aware" Camp to Develop Leadership Skills Among Students Under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawi,

President of Assiut University, the university concluded the activities of the "Leader Aware" camp aimed at developing leadership skills among students. The camp, organized by the Student Union in collaboration with the Leadership Development Administration and the General Administration for Student Care, along with the "Students for Egypt" family, took place from August 10 to 12, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Madihah Darwish, General Supervisor of Student Activities.

Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawi emphasized the university's commitment to supporting student activities that contribute to building a well-rounded personality for students. He clarified that the "Leader Aware" camp serves as a distinguished model for honing leadership and teamwork skills, preparing a generation capable of facing future challenges and actively participating in community service and achieving sustainable development. He reiterated that enhancing students' awareness and equipping them with life and leadership skills are among the university's top priorities, believing in their pivotal role in leading the nation toward a better future.

The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Dr. Haytham Ibrahim, General Director of the General Administration for Student Care, several faculty members and their assistants, department directors, as well as the participating students.

The camp featured a diverse program that included educational lectures, sports and artistic activities, and workshops. Highlights included:

  • A lecture by Dr. Dweib Hussein Saber on "The Risks and Challenges Facing the Egyptian State."
  • A lecture by Dr. Abdel Rahman Mohamed Zaher on "The Societal Risks Facing Youth."
  • A human development and entrepreneurship seminar by Dr. Mohamed Ali Sadiq.
  • A seminar on national projects and presidential initiatives by Dr. Mohamed Sami Qadi.
  • A workshop on health awareness and first aid by Dr. Naglaa El-Rashidi.
  • A workshop on presentation skills by Dr. Asmaa Abu Bakr.
  • A workshop on digital marketing and AI-driven advertisement design by Dr. Hossam El-Din Galal.
  • A seminar on religious awareness and its role in national belonging by Dr. Osama Awad Abdullah.

The events concluded with a documentary film showcasing the camp's activities and honoring outstanding students who received the titles of Best Leader and Best Leaderess from the camp's ten groups.

The camp was organized under the supervision of Mr. Mohamed Said Ali, Camp Director, Dr. Mamdouh Sherit, Ms. Dalia Shobak from the Student Union Administration, Mr. Mohamed Said Abu Al-Hassan, Camp Coordinator and Communication Officer for the "Students for Egypt" family, along with student Martin Nasser, President of the Student Union, and student Salah Al-Nadeem, Vice President of the Union.
