Assiut University Hosts Community Dialogue on the New General Secondary Education System (Baccalaureate)

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the University hosted a community dialogue today, Tuesday, 11 November, on the topic: “The New General Secondary Education System – The Baccalaureate – and Assiut University’s Vision.” The event was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Education in Assiut Governorate, under the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and Workshop Director.

The workshop aimed to provide students and parents with a clear understanding of the mechanisms of the new system, in line with Egypt’s efforts to reform the education system according to international standards, enhance student competencies, and prepare them for the labor market.

The workshop was attended by Professor Adel El-Nagdy, former Dean of the Faculty of Education at Assiut University, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim El-Dessouki, Undersecretary of the Assiut Directorate of Education, Mr. Mohamed Ismail El-Nemr, Director General of Secondary Education at the Directorate, Ms. Entesar Abdel Qader, and Dr. Omaima Kamel Zein, from the Secondary Education Administration.

Professor Abdel-Aleem explained that the new general secondary education system emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills, discussions, and practical preparedness, which enhances students’ analytical and innovative abilities rather than relying solely on memorization. He added that consultation with experts and specialists ensures the system is implemented in the best possible way.

The dialogue included two scientific sessions featuring several lectures:

  • Professor Adel El-Nagdy presented a lecture on “The Proposed Baccalaureate System: Objectives and Its Role in Education Reform.”
  • Dr. Mohamed Kamal, an educational expert from Cairo University, delivered a lecture on “Expected Challenges of the Baccalaureate System and Mechanisms to Ensure Its Success: Proposed Development Strategies,” highlighting the advantages and challenges of implementing the Baccalaureate as an alternative to the current secondary education system.
  • Professor Ahmed Hussein Abdel-Moati presented on “The Egyptian Baccalaureate and the Development of the Egyptian Secondary Education System.”
  • Professor Hanan El-Helwani, Head of the Department of Comparative Education and Educational Administration at the Faculty of Education, Assiut University, discussed the similarities and differences between the International Baccalaureate and the Egyptian Baccalaureate, emphasizing lessons that could be drawn from international experiences.
  • Mr. Ezzat Ali Hassan, Head of the Teachers’ Syndicate, presented “Teachers’ Perspective on the Baccalaureate System.

The second session opened the floor for dialogue between university faculty, high school principals and teachers, students, parents, and civil society institutions, fostering community engagement and discussion on the implementation of the new system.

 

Launch of the second edition of the "Translate – Create" competition to support the translation movement in Egypt

The launch of the second edition of the "Translate – Create" competition within the "A New Start for Human Building" initiative  for Egyptian university students, graduate students, researchers, and members of supporting bodies in public, private, and private universities, especially from the faculties of arts and languages.The aim is: to encourage excellence in the field of translation, to discover a new generation of translators, to promote the translation movement in Egypt, and to develop the skills of young people, while supporting their positive integration into university and cultural activities.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Supreme Council of Universities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the National Center for Translation, are organizing the competition, with the aim of translating important cultural books from foreign languages into Arabic, and highlighting young talents in translation. The competition will run from January 26, 2025 to March 27, 2025, and will select the best translation proposals according to specific criteria to be published in the National Center for Translation publications.

Assiut University's participation in the "Comprehensive Vision for a Better Future" symposium for women's empowerment 2030 at the National Council.

A delegation from the Faculty of Law at Assiut University participates in the educational seminar of the National Council for Women and a visit to the Cairo International Book Fair, with the aim of: introducing students to the National Strategy for Women's Empowerment 2030, promoting awareness of women's rights, combating violence and discrimination, and encouraging women's effective participation in economic, social and political development, in addition to learning about the cultural and historical role of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior through the exhibition.

 

A student delegation from the Faculty of Law under the supervision of Dr. Dweeb Saber, Dean of the Faculty and Legal Advisor to the President of the University, participated in the seminar presented by Dr. Najla Al-Adly, and discussed the National Strategy for Women's Empowerment and the role of universities in combating violence against women through research and educational programs and support units for female students.

The delegation also inspected the pavilions of the Ministries of Interior and Defense at the Cairo International Book Fair, reviewing the legal, security, and historical publications and interactive technologies on display. The delegation presented the college's shield to the officials in honor of the role of the armed forces and police in protecting the homeland and supporting culture and education.

Assiut University Weekly Harvest (January 24-30, 2025): Activities, programs, and events, to showcase the university's most prominent achievements and its community, academic, health, and cultural work, enhance communication with the community, develop students' skills, and support health, education, and leadership, while highlighting the university's contributions to national initiatives and development programs.

  • Congratulating His Excellency President El-Sisi and the Minister of Interior on the occasion of Police Day, and the Sheikh of Al-Azhar on the anniversary of Israa and Miraj.

Assiut University hosts the first EISPEDN conference on diabetes technology in cooperation with the pediatric departments of Upper Egypt universities.

The first EISPEDN conference on "Diabetes Treatment Technology: Techno Conference" at Assiut University for pediatricians, internists, endocrinologists, and diabetologists, diabetics and their families from Upper Egypt, students and the academic community, and health workers from universities and hospitals of the Health Insurance and the Ministry of Health. The aim is: to raise the level of health awareness about diabetes, review the latest technological developments in its treatment, exchange experiences between doctors, educate patients and their families about the management and prevention of the disease using modern technology and smart devices, and improve the level of medical services and health care provided to citizens.

 

Assiut University, under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, organized the first conference of the EISPEDN Foundation, with the participation of professors and doctors from the universities of Upper Egypt and Cairo, and the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Health Insurance. The conference included (8) scientific sessions that included lectures, discussions, and workshops on the risks of diabetes, its treatment using technology, sugar sensors, the latest types of insulin, smart insulin pumps and pens, and mobile and computer applications for monitoring diabetes. The conference also included an awareness and entertainment day for children and their parents entitled "Techno Camp", which focused on proper nutrition, exercise, disease management at school and the month of Ramadan, and correcting misconceptions.

Meeting of the leaders of the forum "Leaders of the Unions of the New Republic... Egypt 2030" at Assiut University with the aim of: enhancing effective communication between Assiut University students and students of other universities, qualifying them for conscious leadership, developing their political and social awareness, immunizing them from misconceptions and rumors, refining self-expression skills with confidence, positive cooperation, and making wise decisions to participate in making Egypt's future.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, met on Wednesday, February 12, with a number of leaders of the Young Leaders Foundation and professors of political science, as part of the activities of the forum "Leaders of the Federations of the New Republic... Egypt 2030". The meeting discussed the university's role in empowering youth, linking learning to the requirements of society, and the importance of student activities in qualifying future leaders, with a focus on confronting rumors and false news, enhancing national security, and teaching students the arts of leadership, cooperation, and wise decision-making.

Organizing a lecture entitled "The Arts of Etiquette, Protocol and Ceremony" for the leaders of university student unions at Assiut University

The New Republic Universities Student Unions Leaders Forum Egypt 2030: "The Arts of Etiquette, Protocol, and Ceremony" with the aim of: enabling young people to deal in accordance with the arts of etiquette and protocol, promoting behaviors of respect and appreciation, and developing human relations, leadership, and decision-making skills, in a way that contributes to preparing leaders capable of participating in the making of the future.

The forum was organized under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, and Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, with a lecture by Dr. Hossam El-Din Mustafa Al-Sharif, during which he addressed the difference between etiquette, protocol and ceremony, and reviewed steps to develop speech and leadership skills among young people. The forum comes under the organization of the University Students' Union, the Students for Egypt Family, and the Student Unions Department, under the supervision and follow-up of the university leaders, a number of students and coordinators.

Scientific Lecture by Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy on "Leadership Skills for Surgeons" for the International Surgical Thoracoscopy Workshop at Assiut University

Leadership in the medical system is a responsibility, not an option, and it is a characteristic that distinguishes a successful surgeon, with the aim of: developing the leadership skills of surgeons and improving the quality of medical care by promoting the concepts of leadership and teamwork in the surgical work environment.

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, organized a scientific lecture by Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University and Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, entitled "Leadership Skills for Surgeons", as part of the activities of the Eleventh International Thoracic Surgical Workshop Workshop, which will be held during the period from February 12 to 14 with the participation of a group of experts from England, Turkey, Morocco, Libya, Yemen and Egypt.

The workshop came under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Amani Omar, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mohamed Ayad, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Head of the Workshop, and Dr. Hussein Al-Khayyat, Workshop Coordinator.

During the lecture, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that medical leadership is a responsibility and not an option, and it is an essential characteristic of a successful surgeon, pointing out that effective leadership contributes to improving the quality of health care and raising the efficiency of the medical team, explaining that the success of the surgeon is related to his ability to make difficult decisions, manage the team, and communicate effectively inside and outside the operating room.

He also stressed the importance of empowering young doctors and encouraging them to make decisions and enhance self-confidence, which creates a dynamic medical team capable of facing challenges and developing innovative solutions, pointing out that cooperation and integration within the medical team are the basis for the success of the surgery and the health system as a whole.

At the end of the lecture, the President of the University appreciated the efforts of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in transferring the latest techniques of thoracic laparoscopic surgery (VATS) to young doctors and training them on them.

Organizing a training course entitled "Crises and Disasters" at the Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation at Assiut University.

 A training course at Assiut University on "Crises and Disasters" for faculty members – assistant staff – employees at Assiut University, with the aim of: raising the level of awareness and readiness to face crises and disasters within the university, and developing risk management skills and effective communication during crises

The Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation at Assiut University organized a training course entitled "Crises and Disasters", under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, and the supervision of Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Ismail, Director of the Center, Dr. Amani Al-Sherif, Deputy Director, and Mr. Gamal El-Din Abdel Hafeez, Administrative Director of the Center.

About 35 trainees from faculty members and staff participated in the course, and Dr. Amal Ali Mahmoud from the College of Education lectured, where she addressed the concepts of crisis and management, its characteristics, mechanisms for dealing with risks, and the requirements of crisis management such as advance planning, internal and external communication system, crisis management team, preventive forecasting and restoration of balance after a crisis.

Assiut University's Participation in the PACLC 2025 Conference in Accra: Lung Cancer at Stake

Assiut University's Participation in the African Lung Cancer Conference (PACLC 2025), with the aim of enhancing the role of Assiut University in international scientific research, and exchanging experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer

Assiut University, represented by Dr. Bishoy Allam from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, participated in the African Lung Cancer Conference (PACLC 2025) held in Accra, Ghana, organized by the International Foundation for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, praised this participation, which confirms the university's research position and its support for international medical cooperation, while the conference discussed the most prominent challenges of diagnosing and treating lung cancer in Africa, and the importance of specialized clinical research that takes into account the genetic characteristics of the continent's population.
