President of Assiut University Meets Vice President of Fayoum University, Emphasizes the Importance of Investing in Scientific Research to Achieve Sustainable Development and Address Societal Issues

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, affirmed the university’s commitment to directing scientific research toward achieving the goals of sustainable development and addressing community issues, while also integrating sustainability into its curricula and research programs. His remarks came during a meeting on Monday with Professor Arafa Sabry Gomaa, Vice President of Fayoum University for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Professor of Materials Science Physics, who was visiting Assiut University to participate in a Ph.D. dissertation defense at the Faculty of Science, entitled “Structural and Magnetic Studies of Spinel and Magnetoplumbite Materials for Energy Applications.

The meeting was attended by Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Professor Abdel-Hamid Abu Sahly, Dean of the Faculty of Science. Professor El-Minshawy welcomed Professor Sabry, highlighting the university’s focus on promoting interdisciplinary, integrated, and emerging specializations aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, modern technologies, artificial intelligence, and future-oriented careers. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to strengthening academic and research collaboration with prestigious educational institutions and universities, developing new academic programs, and supporting interdisciplinary and applied research with tangible contributions to national development and the economy.

Professor Arafa Sabry expressed his pleasure at visiting Assiut University, commending its distinguished scientific and research role, as well as its highly qualified faculty members and researchers across various disciplines.

It is worth noting that Professor Sabry participated in the defense of a Ph.D. dissertation by Ahmed Mohamed Nashaat, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, titled “Structural and Magnetic Studies of Spinel and Magnetoplumbite Materials for Energy Applications.”

Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University Launches the Third Environmental Day Entitled “Viral Respiratory Diseases: A Scientific and Societal Perspective” Under the Slogan “Our Country Is a Trust in Our Hands”

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Faculty of Medicine launched the Third Environmental Day on Monday, January 20, 2025, under the theme “Viral Respiratory Diseases: A Scientific and Societal Perspective” and the slogan “Our Country Is a Trust in Our Hands.” The event was organized by the Faculty’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector and held in the Main University Hospital Conference Hall.

The event was supervised by Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Professor Amani Omar, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Atef El-Qarn, Professor of Chest Diseases and General Coordinator of the Day; and Professor Khaled Abdel-Aziz, Director of the Main University Hospital.

In his remarks, Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the university’s vital role in promoting community participation to mitigate health risks and empower the public through preventive practices. Professor Abdel-Aleem commended the efforts of the Community Service Sector and highlighted the importance of the “Our Country Is a Trust in Our Hands” initiative. Professor Amani Omar reviewed the achievements of the medical sector, including the establishment of the General Emergency and Trauma Unit, reaffirming that prevention remains the best cure. Professor Hoda Makhlouf noted the fruitful collaboration among the Community Service Sector, the Department of Chest Diseases, the Infection Control Unit, and Preventive Medicine.

The program featured a series of specialized lectures, including:

  • Surveillance of Respiratory Diseases by Dr. Ahmed Sayed Mousa
  • Viral Pneumonia: Diagnosis and Treatment Approaches by Professor Lamia Shaaban
  • The Role of Infection Control Management by Dr. Asmaa Abdel-Aziz El-Darwy

The event aimed to raise awareness about the prevention of viral respiratory diseases, exchange expertise, and develop research capabilities, targeting faculty members, researchers, young physicians, and the wider local community.

President of Assiut University Announces the Inclusion of the “Egyptian Fauna Educational Museum” at the Faculty of Science in the Egyptian Tourism Authority Guide

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced the inclusion of the “Egyptian Fauna Educational Museum,” located at the Faculty of Science, within the official tourism guide of Egypt issued by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The museum has become a recognized destination for scientific visits and excursions, contributing to the growth of domestic scientific tourism in Assiut.

The museum houses over 3,000 zoological specimens, including marine organisms, corals, invertebrates, mammals, fish, reptiles, and taxidermied birds. It also features an electronic library containing more than 250 scientific films and 34 educational panels, making it a distinguished scientific, educational, research, and historical resource for students at all educational levels, as well as for researchers and enthusiasts of natural sciences.

This step aims to promote scientific tourism in Assiut, enhance public awareness of Egypt’s scientific and cultural heritage, and facilitate educational and research visits to the museum, highlighting the university’s role as a hub of knowledge and cultural engagement.

Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development Participates in the Training Program for Candidates Applying for the Position of Faculty Dean

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that the training program designed for candidates applying for the position of faculty dean covered all aspects of institutional development across the university’s various sectors. The program aimed to prepare and qualify academic leaders to manage faculties on sound scientific foundations while developing their administrative, professional, and leadership skills. It also sought to empower participants to make effective decisions that contribute to the advancement of their faculties, in alignment with the university’s strategic plan, Egypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research 2030, and the State’s Sustainable Development Strategy.

The three-day program featured a series of specialized sessions and lectures. Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, delivered a lecture on “Institutional Development in the Education and Student Affairs Sector.

The program also included lectures by:

  • Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, on Institutional Development in the Environmental and Community Sector.
  • Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, on Ethical Considerations in Scientific Research and Thesis Supervision.
  • Mr. Shawkat Saber, Secretary-General of the University, on Administrative Aspects in Universities.
  • Professor Mohamed Abdel-Azeem, Director of the Strategic Planning Unit, on Strategic Planning and the Role of the Dean in Faculty Development.
  • Mr. Essam Kamal, Representative of the Ministry of Finance at the University, on Financial Aspects in Universities.

 

President of Assiut University Reviews Report on the University’s Role in Presidential Initiatives

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, affirmed that the university actively participates in various national and presidential initiatives, reflecting its societal and developmental role in supporting the community and surrounding environment, improving quality of life, and investing in human capital.

According to a university report, Assiut University’s contributions include participation in initiatives such as Taḥaloof wa Tanmiya (Alliance and Development), Hayah Kareema (Decent Life), Boats of Hope, Tamkeen (Empowerment for People of Determination), the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, and A New Beginning for Human Development, among others aimed at supporting different social groups and alleviating burdens on citizens.

At the forefront of these contributions stands the university’s engagement in the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Human Development.” Through diverse programs, activities, and services targeting all age groups across governorates, the initiative seeks to enhance human capital and reinforce Egyptian identity, with the active participation of all university sectors.

The university also played a key role in the “Alliance and Development” initiative, where Professor El-Minshawy, in his capacity as Chair of the Central Upper Egypt University Alliance, took part in the first meeting of the initiative’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Professor Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The meeting discussed mechanisms to support projects that serve the national economy, transform research outputs into manufactured products, and expand international partnerships in implementing alliance projects.

In support of people of determination, Assiut University participated in the “Tamkeen” initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with the international campaign “Grantors of Hope.” The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities in universities and develop their skills through workshops and training sessions organized by the University Center for Students with Disabilities, under the supervision of Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Omnia Abdelkader, Center Director; and Dr. Gamal El-Sawy, Administrative Director.

Professor El-Minshawy also participated in the closing ceremony of the first edition of the “Empowerment of University Students with Disabilities” initiative, held at el-Deir el-Baḥari (Temple of Hatshepsut) in Luxor under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The event was attended by Professor Ayman Ashour, several ministers, Professor Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, and a number of university presidents, with the participation of 562 male and female students.

As part of the presidential initiative “Boats of Hope,” the university organized an awareness seminar titled The Dangers of Irregular Migration,” supported by Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration. The seminar featured Ambassador Nabil Habashi, Deputy Minister, and Ambassador Naela Gabr, Chairperson of the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Irregular Migration, to raise awareness of the risks of illegal migration, promote safe migration, and introduce students to positive alternatives and employment opportunities through entrepreneurship.

The university also launched the “100 Days of Sports” initiative in collaboration with the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation and under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, to promote sports among students and build a conscious generation capable of facing future challenges.

The report further highlighted the university’s achievement of winning two awards in the third edition of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects across the governorates of Assiut, New Valley, and Red Sea. The initiative aims to advance sustainable development within Egypt’s Vision 2030 and implement the National Climate Change Strategy 2050.

Supporting environmental efforts, Assiut University participated in launching the “Together… We Plant a Green Future” initiative, organized by CEMEX Egypt, Assiut Cement, which involved planting 700 Khaya trees along the Assiut–New Valley Road (Assiut International Airport Road), in support of national efforts to combat climate change and global warming.

The university has also continued its support for the “Decent Life” initiative by organizing a comprehensive medical convoy in the Qusiya district of Assiut, in collaboration with the Decent Life Foundation. The convoy provided free medical services to over 580 patients in various specialties, including internal medicine, pulmonology, urology, dermatology, and pediatrics, contributing to improved quality of life and rural development.

Additionally, the Faculty of Computers and Information, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Decent Life Foundation, organized the “Technology Ambassadors” initiative to train student cadres in digital awareness, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and combating cyberbullying, supporting the state’s vision of building a digitally literate and future-ready society.

Assiut University Organizes an Art Exhibition Titled “An Artistic Vision of Agricultural Waste”

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Faculty of Specific Education is organizing an art exhibition titled “An Artistic Vision of Agricultural Waste” at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, in the Discussion Hall at the Administrative Building. The event will be attended by Major General Hisham Abu El-Nasr, Governor of Assiut, and supervised by Professor Yasmine El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty.

Professor El-Minshawy explained that the exhibition reflects the university’s vision for achieving sustainable development through the recycling of agricultural waste materials, such as palm fronds, fiber, and banana fibers, into innovative artistic products that support the local economy while preserving the environment.

Professor El-Kahky noted that the faculty organized a series of workshops for faculty members and students on recycling agricultural waste, resulting in a collection of creative artworks that demonstrate students’ awareness of the importance of innovation in serving both the environment and society.

Assiut University Launches a Specialized Dental Medical Convoy at the Urban Center in Al-Walidiya, Assiut

As part of its community engagement mission, Assiut University launched a specialized dental medical convoy at the Urban Health Center in Al-Walidiya, under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, and the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Safaa Marzouk, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Dental Medicine at the Assiut Health Directorate.

Professor El-Minshawy explained that this initiative falls within the university’s community service role and its participation in national presidential initiatives. The convoy provided medical services to more than 63 patients from Al-Walidiya across multiple specialties, including: Oral Medicine and Periodontology, Conservative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics.

All patients received the required medications free of charge based on diagnosis, and cases requiring advanced interventions were referred to the University Dental Hospital.

Professor Abdel-Aleem reaffirmed the university’s commitment to serving the community and alleviating citizens’ burdens through medical convoys targeting the most underserved areas. He emphasized that the university harnesses its material and human resources to provide free healthcare services across a wide range of medical specialties.

President of Assiut University Signs a Cooperation Protocol with the National Center for Social and Criminological Research to Implement Joint Research Projects

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced that the protocol aims to support government policies through scientifically grounded and valuable research projects. It seeks to achieve shared scientific, training, and research goals between both institutions, promote academic exchange among faculty members and researchers, and facilitate access to references, catalogues, and specialized expertise available to both parties.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the university administration’s commitment to building educational, research, and service partnerships with various national and international institutions and research centers. Such collaborations, he noted, strengthen the university’s academic and scientific mission and expand the scope of joint development efforts. He also praised this partnership for opening future prospects for students to engage in diverse academic and research collaborations.

The protocol includes the exchange of academic output, such as master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, studies, and research papers, as well as mutual scientific visits, cooperation on joint research projects addressing regional issues, and the exchange and publication of scholarly works. It also provides for joint academic supervision of postgraduate research and the participation of experts from the National Center for Social and Criminological Research in teaching activities.

President of Assiut University Reviews the Operational Plan of the Environmental Projects and Solidarity Funds to Support Staff and Enhance Services
