Lecturer from Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University has won the "McNeil Award in Natural Products Chemistry"

Colleague Yaser A. M. Abdel-Karem at the Faculty of Science, University of Waterloo, has won one of the top awards of the faculty in the field of natural products: the "McNeil Award in Natural Products Chemistry". Dr. Yaser A. M. Abdel-Karem, Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University. The ceremony took place on Friday, May 2nd, 2014. Assiut University Announces the Success of the First Thermal Solar-Based Conditioning System for Buildings

Dr. Mohammed Abul-Qasem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, announced the success of the first solar-based conditioning system; a project that can be applied on new residential areas. The project was carried out by the university in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute, and funded by the Egyptian Science & Technology Development Fund together with the German Ministry of Scientific Research.          Dr. Ahmed Hamza, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and project manager indicated that this project took three years and it was one of the experimental projects which may be implemented in new residential areas along the desert extension and hot areas in the republic. He also added that this is the first system of its kind which can be operated in the same efficiency as it offers thermal adjustments both in summer and winter times for 80 sq. m. on the top floor at one thermal lab in the faculty of Engineering. In addition to heating and cooling, the system is efficient for heating water throughout the year. Noteworthy too, due to the success of the experiment and its significant impact on environment preservation, a delegation of clean energy and the United Nations Bureau for industrial development in Cairo decided to visit the university last year to check the system for the purpose of building larger models and consider a wider application all over the republic.

Assiut University Delegation Returns from a Visit to the New Suez Canal Project

         Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Samiea Eid, Assiut University President asserted the significance of the new Suez Canal project which represents a milestone in the history of modern Egypt. He assured that this huge project implies much in the achievement of the Egyptians’ dream for a better future and an important step towards development and prosperity. Dr. Eid added that Assiut University will employ its scientific and research facilities to push the project forward. Furthermore, he calls upon all institutions and organizations to supply the project with all necessary support to achieve the project in a short time.            The visit of the Assiut University delegation to Ismailia Governorate was headed by Dr. Abdel-Samiea and included Dr. Ahmed Gaeis, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Hasan Salah, Vice President for Community Service and environment Development, Dr. Tharwat Abdel-Aal, Legal Counselor of the Univ. President, and Dr. Thabet Abdel-Monem, Director of the Center Environmental Studies and Research. The visit comes as a response to the invitation extended by HE Dr. Sayed Abdel-Khaleq, Minister of Higher Education. The visit aimed at encouraging the staff working on the project and providing them with moral support. The delegation has also supplied the project workers with some meals.

Civil Protection activities in Assiut University

The civil protection in Assiut university ensures the safety of the buildings in the university and trains its employees to use  fire fighters under the supervision of the president of the university; professor/ Muhammad Abd El-Samee the vice- president of community services and environmental development; professor/ Hassan Salah Kamel.Through its precautions and fast respond, the civil protection succeeds in extinguishing fire in some remains of the trees and controls it before spreading on Tuesday 27-8-2014.Another report came to inform that there is a problem in the electric circuit in the swimming pool in the olympic village. The civil protection was there immediately to discover that some water reached the electric cable in the pool.Electricity was turned off to make maintenance.The civil protection warns us to be cautious and avoid fire by moving the trash to safe places.

Faculty of Arts, Assiut University: First Faculty of Arts to Gain Academic Accreditation among Peers Nationwide

The Faculty of Arts, Assiut University has been recently accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE) to become the eighth Faculty in the university after the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Vet Medicine, Medicine, Agriculture, and Education.   On this occasion, Prof. Moatamid A. A. Soliman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts indicated that the resolution of accreditation comes with such a great honor since the Faculty of Arts, Assiut University is the first Faculty in the entire Arts Sector of the Egyptian Universities to obtain academic accreditation; a contribution that adds to the remarkable achievements of the university. Prof. Soliman added that the endeavor to get accreditation started in 2007 with the Faculty winning a QAAP project aiming at developing the academic programs of the Faculty and establishing an inner system for Quality Assurance. This was followed by another CIQAP project in 2009 to carry out the work for qualifying the faculty for accreditation by developing its infrastructure side by side with necessary improvement of its educational efficiency. The Faculty of Arts, the Dean added, is distinguished among its peers by a number of privileges including its effective centers and private units which provide services to the university and the entire community.

During the Closing Ceremony of Arab Students Training, Assiut University President: Egypt will always remain the Mecca of sciences for all Scientists from Arab countries.”

Assiut University President, Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samiea attended the closing festival the training of 22 Arab students from Yemen and Sudan. In his speech, the president asserted the importance of cultural communication and academic exchange among the various Arab Universities.   Vice president, Dr. Adel Rayan indicated that the university is keen on providing its Arab and international students with all academic and research facilities together with all possible care and support. With this distinguished academic atmosphere during their studies, the university aspires to have all these graduates as representatives of Assiut University in their countries. Prof Rayan also expressed his thanks to the companies which participated with the university during the training period.   At the end of the festival, the president toured around an exhibition of the Arab students artistic works and gave prizes and souvenirs to the trainees as well as a certificate of recognition to the Deans of the Faculty of Science, Computers and Information, Pharmacy, Engineering, Education, Specific Education, Physical Education, and Nursing. Besides, he also granted a certificate of recognition to the University Network Centre for hosting the training and the effort they exerted to facilitate the students’ training. The Arab students have also expressed their gratitude and gave souvenirs to the president and the vice president.

Assiut Western Plateau Committee Meeting

The general secretary of assiut governorate sent a fax on the 13th of July 2014 to the faculty of engineering asking them to form a committee of the faculty staff to prepare a detailed report about the futuristic needs and requirements to the western plataeu project in assiut. The committe was formed and had a meeting on 6th of August 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the vice dean of community services and environmental development office and under the supervision of the dean of the faculty professor/ Mohammad Abo El-Kasem.

Meeting between Governor of Assiut and the University President to propose a strategy for development in Assiut

In an extended meeting the day before yesterday, Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samiea Eid, President of Assiut University hosted Major General Ibrahim Hammad, Governor of Assiut to discuss the effective participation of the university in working out a comprehensive strategic plan for the development of the province. The meeting also included the university vice presidents, college deans and a number of the faculty members in Engineering, Science, Agriculture, and Commerce, in addition to the Governor’s consultants and executive directors from different sectors at the Governorate.       General Hammad indicated that this meeting is prompted by recommendations from President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi who assured the importance of the participation of universities in all province sectors to achieve comprehensive development. He also assured the intention and will of the president to achieve the dream of the Egyptian people regarding prosperity and welfare especially after the recent reconsiderations of borders of Egyptian provinces which appears as an important historical move.         On his part, Dr. Abdel Samiea assured the re-divisioning of the state provinces will achieve a true leap of development in all fields as it will initiate new horizons for work and advancement via establishing big national projects increasing job opportunities within governorates. Dr. Abdel Samiea asserted that the university will never let the trust of the political leadership down, and will therefore employ the effort of the scientists to cooperate with the governorate administration.
