Under the auspices of
Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Sameia, president of Assiut University and in the presence
of Prof. Hasan Salah, Vice president for Community Affairs and Environment
Service, and Prof. Thabet Abdel Moneim, Director of the Centre for Environment
Studies and Research, the proceedings of the scientific forum organized by the
Centre for Environment Studies and Research under the title: "Ebola- The Danger
Coming from Africa" started.
Prof. Salah indicated
that the responsibility of cautioning against this danger is a social
responsibility and it should be carried by the educated, the media men and
women, and all the people. He also revealed that the illness caused by this
Virus and known as "Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever" is one of the devastating illnesses
which appeared lately and its death ratios reached about 90% and he therefore
asks all mass media to warn the citizens to follow a number of environment
constraints and to follow the highest degrees of self protection by bewaring the
blood and liquids of infected cases

In Assiut University Office in Cairo: European Union Bureau Offers New Programs
Within its usual
keenness to achieve distinction in fields of education and scientific research,
Assiut University has organized a symposium for the European Union Bureau to
present new programs for the enhancement of higher education in Egypt.
Expository show has
been presented to explain the steps through which the program of the European
Union developed its programs to enhance higher education starting with the
"Tempus" until "Erasmus Plus" project which has already started this year. This
program includes all European Union programs concerned with grants,
international cooperation, and support policies.

In His Meeting with Representatives of the European Union Bureau: Assiut University President Praises the Role of the Programs Provided by the European Union to Enhance Higher Education in Egypt
Prof. Mohammed Abdel-Sameia Eid, President of Assiut University, met Eng. Kareem
Hamdy, Assistant National Coordinator of the European Union Programs, and Ms
Raghda Mohsen, Coordinator of the European Union Higher Education Programs who
arrive in a visit to the University Bureau in Cairo to discuss the research
grants provided by the Union and the application process and conditions.
In this meeting,
the president asserted the role of the European Union Programs in supporting
higher education in Egypt through providing distinct research projects to
several Egyptian universities. On their part, the guests expressed their
satisfaction and estimation of the encouragement and support provided by Assiut
University to the programs and activities of the European Union. Likewise they
praised the university also for its distinguished research cadres who had
achieved remarkable success in their research results in several fields.

A Study in Assiut University Asserts that the Use of Nano Technology Increases the Effectiveness of Anti-Fungal Medications
Dr. Ghareeb M. Abdel-Aal,
lecturer, Department of Pharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University
has conducted a study on the possibility of using nanotechnology in the medical
field as an anti-fungal and anti-germs. In his study, Dr. Abdel-Aal explained
that the use of this technique has truly led to an increased melting of the
anti-fungal drug in water more than 80 times the regular method. This has led
to an increase in its effectiveness pathogenic fungi in human body, particularly
the fungi existing in eyes.
Dr. Ghareeb confirmed that this
study will encourage Egyptian drug companies to introduce a local product for
the treatment of fungi-caused illnesses especially because no anti-fungal drugs
are available for the treatment of eyes in the local drug market.
Dr. Ghareeb's study has been
published in an international peer reviewed journal. The study was co-authored
by Dr. Mohamed A Attiya, Professor Emeritus, Department of Pharmaceutics,
Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Ramadan A. Othman, Lecturer, Department of Botany
and Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Assiut University.
With a paper entitled
as “Folklore and its Impact on the Renewal of Women’s Ornaments Made of Copper
for the Purpose of Developing Human Resources”, Under the supervision of
Professor Mansour Al-Mansy, and presented by: Inas Mohamed Sayed Mahran,
student at the Faculty of Specific Education, Assiut University has recently won
the first rank among Arab Universities in the field of artistic innovation.
Prof. Al-Mansy indicated that the referees have praised the winning paper which
aimed at discovering the values and capacities of the Formative Folklore and its
impact on the development of Human Resources.
The paper insured the
importance of metal ornaments, and specifically copper which embodies beautify
and innovation and reflect the culture of women who wear them. He also asserted
the paper’s recommendation of the necessity of going back to folklore so that we
can get the inspiration to cope with the cultural development. Likewise, he
indicated the need to develop methods of copper formation using recent
technology while yet preserving our distinctive folklore in this field.
Noteworthy is that
this meeting was organized by the Arab Council for Training Arab students and
hosted by Tanta Universities this month. The meeting took place this month and
aimed at enhancing students’ talents and skills, in addition to empowering their
Arab sense of belonging and strengthening the relationships among the
participant universities through several academic domains of scientific
research, technological innovation, artistic and cultural activity.

Assiut University Lecturer of Pharmaceutics Selected For the Membership of Egyptian Youth Academy of Science
The Academy of
Scientific Research and Technology announced the selection of Dr. Mahmoud Fahmy
Al-Sobhy, lecturer of Pharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University for
the membership of the Egyptian Youth Academy of Science. Dr. Al-Sobhy is
selected among 15 members from the various Egyptian Universities and Research
Centers according to international standards of measurement of the abilities of
young researchers to form the first Academy of Youth. The membership continues
for three years.
Dr. Al-Sobhy
expressed his delight and pride being selected and acclaims the attitude of the
state to establish this research academy for young researchers. This step
reflects the government’s faith in young researchers’ role in the advancement
and development of the community. He added that the academy will provide good
opportunity for youth to activate their role in elevating scientific research.
The event took
place at the building of the Academy of Scientific Research. This celebration
was held in the presence of HE Dr. Sherif Hammad, Minister of Scientific
Research, HE Dr. Al-Sayed Abdel-Khaleq, Minister of Higher Education, Dr.
Mahmoud Saqr, President of The Academy of Scientific Research, Presidents of the
Egyptian Universities, and the presidents of international Youth academies in
Germany, Scotland, South Africa, the Sudan, Denmark, and Malaysia

HE Minister of Higher Education and the Presidents of Egyptian Universities Visit Assiut University Hospitals
Accompanied by HE
Major Gen. Ibrahim Hammad, Governor of Assiut, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Samiea, Assiut
University President, and presidents of the Egyptian Universities, HE Minister
of Higher Education, Dr Al-Sayed Abdel- Khaleq made a check-visit touring inside
Assiut University Hospitals. Dr. Adel Rayan, Assiut University Vice President
for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Hassan Salah, Vice President for
community Service and Environment Development, Dr. Tharwat Abdel-Aal, Law
Counselor of the President, Mr. Mahmoud Shaker, the University’s General
Secretary, and the Executive Directors of University Hospitals accompanied the
Minister in his tour inside the hospitals.
The visit of the
Minister and his company included a number of specialized hospitals such as
Al-Rajhi Liver Hospital, Urology, neurology and psychology hospital, Injuries
Unit, and the Cardiology Center to check the distinguished medical service
provided to millions of patients throughout the Upper Egyptian Provinces, and to
make an assessment of the requirements of these hospitals to upgrade them to the
international standards. Of the urgent demands id the need to solve the problem
of nursing, a demand for competitive projects for quality and development, and
an activation of the protocols of cooperation between the hospitals and the
Ministry of Health.
First, the company
visited Al-Rajhi Liver Hospital. Al-Rajhi hospital is the first of its kind and
the largest medical institution for Liver in Upper Egypt. It was established
with a contribution from Al-Rajhi Saudi Est. as part of the distinguished
relationships tying the university with fraternal Arabs. The total establishment
cost of the hospital was 130 million Egyptian Pounds. The hospital includes 200
patient beds, 6 clinical offices, reception department, diagnostic
gastrointestinal endoscopy units, Intensive care units, remedial labs, CT
radiology department, and the catheter unit which is an intervention radio-based
for simultaneous diagnosis and treatment, lately obtaining a license to do
liver-transplantation surgeries within two months time in collaboration with a
team from Ain Shams University.
The
company then moved to the Neurological and Psychological Hospital which receives
large numbers of people suffering from various mental disorders. It was lately
furnished with 7 new surgical rooms highly equipped with advanced remedial
programs and tools to perform minute brain operations. The visitors then moved
to the Urological Hospital which includes about 350 patient beds, 9 intensive
care rooms and dialysis units. Next came the visit to the injury hospital which
one of the most significant medical centers that the university does a great
effort to develop to face the increasing numbers of the various injuries. It
encompasses 400 patient beds with necessary medical appendices. The tour last
came to the Cardiology Center which was established with co-fund from the Orman
Association. It is scheduled to start next year with 350 patient bed capacity
and a prospect for by-pass surgeries.

The dean of the faculty professor/ Muhammad Abo El-Kasem and the whole faculty stuff would like to congratulate Muhammad Adel Abd El-Hamid, student at the faculty of engineering,for being awarded the first place in the 16th Arab Council for Training Students of Arab Universities (ACTSAU) which was held at Tanta University during(7-11)September 2014. The winning paper was under the supervision of professor/ Osama Sayed Muhammad, the vice dean for graduate studies and research.

Assiut University Professor Wins the Scientific Distinction Award for Young Arab Archeologists
Dr. Sameh Fekry
El-Banna, Associate Professor of Archeology and Islamic Arts, has won the 2014
Award for scientific distinction; an award that is granted annually to young
Arab archeologists who participate effectively with serious and creative
research in the field of Archeology, and whose work proves scientific
distinction among peers from Egypt and the Arab countries.
Dr. El-Banna got
his M.A. in 2003 and PhD in 2008 in the field of Islamic Manuscripts during the
Timurid and Safavid eras. This award was granted to Dr. El-Banna after his
nomination by three authorities: the Department of Archeology, Faculty of Arts,
Assiut University, Assiut Governorate, and the Institute for Arab Manuscripts
affiliated to the League of Arab States.
Dr. El-Banna will
be officially honored by receiving the award during the 17th
Conference of the General Union of Arab Archeologists at the Location of the
Union from 1-3 November 2014.
