The Role of Arts and Sports in the Seventh Festival for Artistic Innovation of Mentally Handicapped Children

In collaboration with the Administration of Resources Development and Trans-World Islamic Relief, the Assiut University Women's Development Society, inaugurated the proceedings of the Seventh Festival for Artistic Innovation of Mentally handicapped children on Feb 5th. 2013. The Festival continues for three days to include a number of programs and performances aiming to merge handicapped and normal children together and developing their mental and physical faculties. Dr. Aeyia Al-Husseini, Chairperson of the Women's Society and the conference indicated that the university started the proceedings by a forum entitled "the Role of Sports and Arts in the integration of the handicapped," under the auspices of Dr. Yehia Kishk, Governor of Assiut, Dr. Mostafa Kamal, President of Assiut University. Artist Tarek Al-Desouki, Director of the Festival asserted the role of art in innovation and creativity and its capacity to merge handicapped children with normal ones. He also assured that Egypt has been a core place for arts and culture in the whole world since it owns one third of the world's oldest and most genuine archaeology and the oldest theatres known in the world are the Egyptian theatres. Likewise, he added that Egypt ranks second the movie industry following France, and concerning books, Egypt is considered the first to work on writing and translation. In his speech, Dr. Mohammed Thabet Badaary, Professor of Photography, Faculty of Specific Education, Assiut University, clarified the role of artistic drawings in developing the mental faculties of the handicapped through a number of drawings and carvings in which a number of handicapped children have participated in the Special Art Exhibition in Cairo. He also assured that art has been recognized as a language for communication since the ancient times starting with the drawings on the walls of caves until the present. Moreover, he asserted that art aids in communication with the  environment, emotional equilibrium, the employment of mental process, distinction of senses; sight and touch, feeling self-confidence, and projecting the inner thoughts and power to liberate one from excessive emotionalism. Concerning the role of sports, Dr. Ashraf Mahmoud Al-Egeily, Prof., Faculty of Physical Education, Helwan University exposed the problems hindering the utmost ideal level to merge the handicapped in their society, starting with the role of the mother and brothers, then schools with the problems imposed by improper care for this category of children, and the role of sports institutions being responsible for merging these children with normal peers through training and encouragement. Dr Al-Egeily encouraged the idea of a program (the ideal friend) through which he aims at the formation of friendships between the handicapped children and their normal peers. The festival witnessed a wide participation of about 46 civil societies from a number of Egyptian provinces, a number of artists including the famous Actress Hanan Turk and an international delegation representing the Trans-world Islamic Relief Organization.

In its celebration of the Science Day, Assiut University Honors

57 Faculty Members Winning Scientific Awards, 5 Colleges Winning Academic Accreditation,   and First-Rank Graduates On Sunday 10 Feb. 2013, and in the presence of HE Prof. Mustafa Mossaad, Minister of Higher Education, HE Prof. Yahya Kishk, Governor Assiut, a host of public and executive leaders, University Faculty members, and students, Prof. Mostafa Kamal, the University President declares that the university is organizing its annual celebration of the Science Day. He adds that this year, the university will honor Dr. Mamdouh Shaaban, Professsor of Gynecology  and Obstetrics being one of the leading  pioneers in the field, and winning  the University's Golden Medal. Also, the  University will honor members winning the State Incentive Award such as:  Dr. Abdul Salam Noweir, Dr. Bahaa Mohammed Abu Zeid, Dr. Doaa Mohammed Sayed. Likewise, the university honors Dr. Mohamed Bedeiwy, winner of State Award for Scientific Excellence in the Medical Field. Also, the university honors Dr. Dinah Mamdouh Fouad, winner of King Abdullah II's  Award for Innovation as well a Prize of the CIQAP for academic publishing together with Dr. Iman Mohammed Khedr, Dr. Sherifa Ahmed Hamed Omran, winner of Abdel- Hamid Shouman for meidcal Sciences, Dr. Sayed Aashour winner of 2011 Prize for simplifying sciences, Dr. Mohammed Omar Abdel-Gawad, winner of Misr AlKheir Prize for Academic publishing. The university honors other winners of Assiut University Recognition Awards such as: Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Hafez, Dr. Nabil Ahmed Misk, Dr Mostafa Hasan Hussein, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Almoghazy, and Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Bedeiwy. Besides, the university honors winners of Assiut University Incentive Awards such as: Dr. Mohammed Hashem Mohammed Ahmed, Dr. Rabeia Mohammed Refaat, Dr. Amal Sayed Mohammed sayed, Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Mahmoud, and Dr. Adel Rabeia Othman; winners of Soleiman Hozaein for Scientific Distinction such as: Dr. Fathy Mohammed Sayed, Dr. Hashem Mahmoud Mohammed, and Dr. Omar Mamdouh Shaaban; winners of Dr Moahmmed Ragaee Al-Tahlawy Prize such as: Dr. Waleed Sayed Saleh, Dr. Heba Abdel Razek Sayed, and Dr Shereen Ahmed Ibrahim; winners of Dr. Mohammed Raafat Mahmoud Prize in Chemistry such as: Dr. Hasan Abdu Qotb, and Dr. Rimone Milad Zaky. Dr Mohammed Mostafa Qotb winner of Dr. Galal Zaki's Prize in Orthopedics; winners of Dr Mohammed Salaah-El Deen Yousef for the Best scientific thesis and Dissertation in Veterinary Medicine such as: Dr. Hanan Hasan Abdel Hafeez, Vet. Mohammed Ahmed Hamdy Abdel-Hakeem; winners of Dr. Bahaa-El-Deen Helmy Ismail for the best Doctoral Dissertation such as Dr. Abdel-Baset Abdel-Hameed, Dr. Mostafa Hashem Ibrahim for the best Master's Thesis. In addition to the previous winners, the university also honors the winners of Assiut University Prize for the Best Doctoral Dissertation such as: Dr. Mansour Al-Syed Ahmed, Dr. Sobhy  Yehia Ahmed, Dr. Mahmoud Fahmy Ali Al-Sobhy, and the Best Master's Theses such as:  Ms Hanan Salah Ahmed, Mr. Mohammed Kotb Abdel-Hafez, Ms. Shaimaa Rihaan Bashandy, and Ms. Amira Adel Taha.       The university also honors winners of the Best Research Prize in Sciences such as: Dr. Abu-Bakr Mohammed Al-Taeib, Dr. Refaat Mostafa Hasan, Dr. Mohammed Abdel-Rahman Ahmed, Dr. Ismail Ahmed Ismail in basic Sciences; Dr. Mohammed Abu-Zahhad Abu Zeid, Dr. Mahmoud Mohammed Ahmed, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Megeed Ahmed, Dr. Sabah Mohammed Ahmed, Dr. Hisham Mohammed Ahmed Diyaab in Engineering Sciences; Dr. Mohammed Abdel-Haiy Al-Meshtawy, winner of the Prize for Distinctive Performance.  The university also recognizes and honors the Deans of the faculties winning Academic Accreditation such as: Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dean of the Faculty Veterinary Medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with other Units  winning International Accreditation such as: Molecular Biology Unit and Analytical Chemistry Unit. Second and Third Training Programs Held in Assiut University On Supporting Voting Rights and Democratic Orientation in Upper Egypt

Under the auspices of Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samiea Eid, President of Assiut University, Center for Studies and Research on Human Rights together with the International Electoral Systems Organization, have organized the second and third training programs on Voting Rights and Democratic Orientation in Upper Egypt. Dr Essam M. Zanaty, Professor and Director of the Center for Studies and Research on Human Rights indicated that these programs are meant to carry out the role of the university in enhancing students’ awareness and information regarding their rights to participate in political issues and electoral systems with empowered will and freedom of choice.  These programs, Prof. Zanaty added, aim at explaining and highlighting problems of democracy; problems which arise from illiteracy and poverty and leave a negative impact on the freedom of choice and the voter’s will in Upper Egypt.   The training programs are part of the training activity held by the university. This training activity includes eight academic sessions throughout the period of two months. Within this activity several lectures will be delivered on various topics such as:  the principles and concepts of human rights, electoral systems, the importance and forms of political participation, election management, and electoral crimes. Besides, each training program will host 50 students from the universities of Assiut, Sohag and Minia.
