Effect of Teaching Booklet on Compliance to Oral Anticoagulant Drugs among Patients with Deep Venous Thrombosis

Research Abstract

Background: Treatment for patients with deep venous thrombosis relies on persuading the patient to adhere entirely to the therapeutic plan. Patient education is an important aspect in increasing compliance. Aim: To evaluate the effect of teaching booklet on compliance to oral anticoagulant drugs among patients with deep venous thrombosis. Research design: Quasi-experimental research design. Setting: The study was conducted at vascular surgery department and trauma unit at Assiut University Hospital. Sample: A purposive sample of 60 male and female adult patients. This sample was divided into study and control group (30 patient for each) diagnosed with DVT, their age ranged from18 to 65 years. Tools: Tool I: Patient assessment sheet, Tool II: Compliance of patients with medications by using Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between study and control group regarding compliance to oral anticoagulant drugs post application of teaching booklet. Conclusion: Teaching booklet was effective in improving patient's compliance to oral anticoagulant drugs, lower incidence of bleeding and recurrence of thrombus among patients with deep venous thrombosis. Recommendations: Teaching booklet for DVT patients to improve adherence to oral anticoagulant should be available in vascular surgery department.

Aim: to evaluate the effect of applying postoperative nursing instructions on ankle open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) surgery patients. Research design: Quasi experimental research design was utilized in this study. Setting: This study was performed in trauma units (male and female) and orthopedic clinic at Assiut University Hospital. Sample: This study included a convenient sample of (60 patients). Tool I: Interview questionnaire sheet Tool II: Patient complications assessment sheet. Results: In lateral wound ,it was found that one quarter of control group had normal healing while more than two fifth in study group . In medial wound healing it was found that more than one third of control group had normal healing while majority in study group. Conclusion: The present study revealed that providing patients with post-operative nursing instructions were represented of great value in wound healing and reduction other complications (residual pain, Malunion, infection, deformity). Recommendations: the present study should be replicated on larger study populations for generalization of the results

Effect of Designed Nursing Instructions on Outcomes of Patients with Overactive Bladder Syndrome Undergoing Intravesical Botox Injection

Research Abstract

Background: Botox is a new form of treatment for over active bladder syndrome and is administered via cystoscopic injections of the bladder wall. Aim: To evaluate the effect of nursing instructions on outcomes of patients with overactive bladder syndrome undergoing intravesical botox injection. Research design: Quasi-experimental design was utilized.Setting the study was conducted in the urology departments at Assiut Urology University Hospital. Sample: Purposive sample of thirty patients undergoing intravesical botox injection. This sample was divided into study and control groups (15 patients for each). Tools: tool (I): Patient structured interview questionnaire sheet. Tool (II): Numeric scale for pain .Results: there was significant difference between
study and control group after application of nursing instructions regarding total knowledge .In study group one fifth of patients had recurrence of urinary incontinence post application of nursing instructions while in control group more than half (60%). the mean score of numeric scale for assessment of pain was 1.2±0.68 in study group while in control group was 3.4±1.76 post instructions. Conclusion: Nursing instructions are effective in improves patient's outcomes for the study sample. Recommendations: Kegel exercises can be adapted as therapeutic behavioral methods for care of patients with overactive bladder syndrome for patients undergoing intravesical botox injection

Effect of Intradialytic Hemodialysis Exercises on Fatigue and Leg cramps

Research Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis is an ongoing process where patients experience complications such as hypotension,
muscle cramps, fatigue and nausea during the procedure. Aim: To evaluate the effect of implementing intradialytic
hemodialysis exercises program on fatigue and leg cramps. Subjects and methods: Pre/posttest was utilized in this
study. it was conducted in dialysis unit at Sohag University Hospital, A sample of 60 patients who undergoing
hemodialysis with fistula (peripheral vascular access), with age 18-65 years old. four tools were used: Tool(I):
Structured Interview Questionnaire sheet, Tool (II):Cramp questionnaire chart and visual analogue scale : Pre/post
test (after 2 months) Tool (III) : Fatigue severity scale and Tool (IV): Intradialytic exercise. Results. The mean age of
the patients was 43.80± 12.089(range 18- 65). More than half of patients (58.3%) experienced muscle cramps in both
the legs. As regard muscle involved in cramps, majority of patients(83.3 %) experienced muscle cramps in
gastrocnemius muscle. Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed that there were statistical significance
differences as regard cramps questionnaire chart, visual analogue scale and fatigue severity scale pre &post
intradialytic exercises. Recommendations: Intradialytic exercises can be adapted as a procedure to the patients
undergoing hemodialysis.

Research Abstract

Abstract Background: Pulmonary complications after stroke contribute significantly to a poor stroke outcome. Early in hospital pulmonary complications of stroke patients can be reduced by chest physiotherapy exercises .The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chest physiotherapy on reducing pulmonary complications among stroke patients. Methodology: A quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. The study was conducted in the neurological departments at Assiut University Hospital. The study included 60 adult stroke patients from the acute stage (2 Days) of admission to the hospital until discharge time. The sample was divided into two equal groups. Study and control group (30 patients each). Two tools used to collect data include, patient assessment sheet, pulmonary complication assessment sheet. Results: In the control group was 66.7% while pneumonia in the study group was 23.3% after the application of physical therapy exercises to the chest. Conclusion: Applying chest physiotherapy exercises had a statistically significant effect on reducing pulmonary complications among study group than the control group. Effect of Different Nursing Educational Methods about Correct use of Inhaler Devices on Clinical Improvement for Asthmatic Patients

Research Abstract

Most asthmatic patients use their inhalers incorrectly; As a result, they are more vulnerable to poor clinical control and exacerbation. The study aim: was to evaluate the effect of different nursing educational methods (video, educational booklet, both booklet & video) about correct use of inhaler devices on the clinical improvement for asthmatic patients. Methods: Design of the study: Quiz-experimental design. Setting:  chest department and chest diseases outpatient clinics at Assiut University Hospitals Sample: 80 asthmatic patients were divided into four groups, 20 patients for each. Tools: Tool I: patient assessment sheet, Tool II:  Global Initiative for Asthma scale (GINA), 2019, and Tool III: nursing educational methods. Results: According to the Global Initiative for Asthma scale, in excess of half of the patients (60.0 %) in the routine nursing instructions, booklet, and video groups had partially asthma control, while the majority of patients (80.0%) in the video and booklet groups had well asthma control. Conclusions: The group of patients who received the video and the booklet had a statistically significant effect on improving the level of asthma control. Recommendation: All asthma patients should be given written and visual information about how to use inhalers devices correctly to minimize the complications arising from the incorrect use of inhalers.
