Risk Factors and Complications of Patients Undergoing Anesthesia

Research Abstract

Background: The incidence of perioperative complications and mortality related to anesthesia increased and involved multiple factors so, The aim of the present study is to assess of predisposing risk factors and complications for patients during anesthesia. Descriptive research design was used to conduct this study. Sitting: The study was conducted in the operating room for emergency care units at Assuit university Hospital. Sample: One hundred adult male and female patients admitted to mentioned settings and complain of risks or complications from anesthesia. Tools: Tool one: demo geographic data and general physical and medical data, Tool two: risk factors sheet, Tool three Assessment sheet of complications during anesthesia. Results: the most common risk factors of anesthesia were hypothermia 43%, hypotension 79%. Common complication were hypothermia in general anesthesia78%, and hypotension in spinal anesthesia 65%. Conclusion: a highly statistically significant relation was found regarding to risk factors as upper respiratory tract infections, renal impairment and the obesity, and the main complication was hypothermia. Recommendations: provide health teaching for patients before surgery and good preoperative preparation

Effect of lower Limbs Rehabilitation on Burn Injured Patients' Outcomes During Emergency Phase

Research Abstract

Burn rehabilitation is comprehensive, complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach to optimize the patient's physical and psychosocial recovery related to burn. Aim: the study was made to evaluate the effect of lower limb rehabilitation on burn injured patients' outcomes (joint flexibility and muscle strength) during emergency phase. Design: a quasi-experimental design, study design was used to achieve the objectives of the study. Setting: The present study was conducted in burn unit at Assuit general hospital and Assuit university hospital. subjects: purposive sample of 60 adults patients (males and females),they were divided into two equal groups (study and control). Tools: Patient assessment tool, joint flexibility assessment and muscle strength assessment. Results: This study was successed in minimizing muscles contracture to (6.67%)of study group versus(30.00%) of control group. Conclusion: Implementing the lower limb rehabilitation during emergency phase significantly improved the burn injured patient's outcomes (joint's flexibility and muscles strength) . Recommendation: Rehabilitation exercises should be done as early as possible for patients with burn injury during emergency phase

Effect of Nursing Care Protocol daily Interruption of Sedation on Mechanical Ventilated Patients 'Outcome

Research Abstract

Nursing care protocol daily sedation is very important to optimize sedation for patients on
mechanical ventilators, these requires nursing staff is very crucial in this aspect to avoid
complication of sedation and earlier extubation. Aim: This study was aimed to identify effect of
nursing care protocol for daily interruption sedation on mechanical ventilation patients outcome.
Design: a quasi-experimental design. Setting: Carried at ICU at Assiut university hospital. Subjects:
A purposive sample of 70 adults patients. Sample was assigned to two equal groups (study and
control). Tools: Four tools were utilized to collect data of study, tool I: Patient assessment sheet.
Tool II: Interruption and infusion sedation assessment scales tool. Tool III: Intensive Care Delirium
Screening Checklist. Tool IV:patients outcome tool. Results: the present study revealed that there
was a statistical significant differences (P<0.001**) between study and control groups in relation to
sedative complication, Delirium , ICU stay, and Duration of mechanical ventilation. Conclusion:
Patient who received nursing care protocol during daily interruption of sedation leading to improve
outcome and reduce complication. Recommendation: Provide in-service education and training
program for critical care nurses regarding applying daily interruption of sedation and how managed
these patients

Health Care Workers Compliance with Preventive Measures for Covid-19 in Intensive Care Units

Research Abstract

Background: Healthcare workers are at the forefront of COVID-19 intervention. Unfortunately, due to highly infected patients with novelty of the virus and the unequipped of hospital to deal with the sudden influx of situations. Aim: to describes the health care workers compliance with preventive measures for covid-19 in ICUs. Setting: The study was carried out on intensive care units (trauma=19, chest=15, general =12, post-operative=12 obstetric=22 ICUs). All health care workers received a cumulative training of standard and additional precautions at health care facility. Method: A prospective cross-sectional study design was conducted among 80 HCWs with COVID-19 infection at Assuit University Hospitals within one year. Two tools were utilized to collect data; Each participant was contacted individually by the researchers; the questionnaire was distributed to the participants. Data were collected using a self-administered, valid, structured questionnaire. Results: The high percent of healthcare workers (82.5%) always use alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water after touching a patient, (70%) follow recommended hand hygiene practices, (91.3%) had cough and 68 (85 %) had sore throat. Conclusion and Recommendations: The incidence of infection increase, while HCWs followed infection prevention and control measures. Thus vaccinate all health care workers are recommended. In addition, high-risk HCWs could be assigned duties away.

Effect of a portable computer-based educational intervention video on the outcomes of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

Research Abstract

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a form of interventional cardiology procedure that includes expanding a balloon in a stenotic or blocked artery.

Aim:

To assess effect of a portable computer-based educational intervention video on the outcomes of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

Setting:

Al Orman Assiut University Hospital's cardiac catheterization unit.

Design:

A quasi-experimental was used.

Sample:

60 patients who were admitted for the first time for percutaneous coronary intervention. Data was collected using two tools: tool I: patient assessment sheet tool II patient outcome assessment sheet.

Nursing Assessment for Predictors of Failed Weaning Among Prolonged Mechanically Ventilated Patients

Research Abstract

Background: For adult patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV≥7 days), weaning success is an important prognostic factor in patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation. Weaning failure has been attributed to various factors. The aim: of the study was to identify factors contributing to long term mechanical ventilation. A Descriptive research design was adopted to conduct this study. The study was conducted in the intensive and trauma care units at Assuit university. A convenient sample: of sixty adult male and female patients admitted to mentioned settings and connected to MV. Tools: Tool one: socio-gemograghic data and clinical data, Tool two: weaning criteria scale, Tool three APACHE II score Tool four: Neurological assessment by using FOUR score. Results: the most common risk factors delay weaning were cardiovascular (66%) and neuromuscular (54.2%). Conclusion: a highly statistically significant relation was found regarding to factors as age, length of ICU stays, RSBI, PH, hemoglobin, WBCs, platelets count and respiratory rate. Recommendations: 1-good monitoring of the cardiovascular assessment with cardiologists 2- the weaning indexes have some limitations, related to study population 3- integration with other departments should be morely supported.

Effect of teaching program on nurses' knowledge and practice regarding measuring end-carbon dioxide by capnography at critical care units

Research Abstract

Carbon dioxide is a product of the body's 'metabolism. Capnography provides an excellent picture of the respiratory process. Aim: To evaluate the effect of Teaching Program of Nurses' knowledge and practice regarding measuring End-Carbon dioxide by capnography in critical units at Assiut University Main Hospital. Design: A Quasi experimental was used. Setting: The study was carried in intensive care and major operation units at Assiut University Main Hospital. Subjects: All available nurses in Intensive care and major operation units about (60) nurses. Tools: Two tools were utilized to collect data, Tool (1): Knowledge Assessment tool, Tool (2): nurses’ observational check list, Method: tow time nurses observed by the researcher before and after the teaching program, The researcher used preparatory, implementation and evaluation phases to implement study. Results: The total nurses' knowledge score improved, There was good improvement with highly significant difference related to knowledge and practice of teaching program. Conclusion: The majority of nurses had good level knowledge and practice toward measuring End-Carbon dioxide by capnography after applying teaching program. Effect of Educational Program on Nurses' Knowledge and Practice About Oxygen Therapy

Research Abstract

Oxygen is life essential so it is important for nurses who are responsible for oxygen administration to be familiar with its Indications and potential hazards. Aim: To investigate the effect of educational program about oxygen therapy on the nurses' knowledge and nurses' practice. Design: A Quasi experimental research design was used. Setting: The study was carried in pediatric emergency unit at Assuit pediatric University Hospital. Subjects: All available nurses in the emergency department who were (50) nurses. Tools: Two tools were utilized, Tool (1): Structure Interview Questionnaire to assess nurses' knowledge, Tool (2): Nurses' practice observational check list to assess performance. Method: preparatory, implementation and evaluation phases were used to implement study. Results: The total nurses' knowledge mean score improved from (9.080±4.818) before educational program to (19.840±.421) after its implementation, and total nurses' performance mean score improved from (63.0400 ± 7.94101) before implementation of educational program to (97.9200± .39590) after its implementation. There was good improvement with highly significant difference (p<0.001) related to knowledge and practice of educational program. Conclusion: Majority of nurses had a satisfactory level of knowledge and practice toward oxygen therapy after applying educational program. Recommendations: Provide in-service education and training program for nurses regarding oxygen therapy.
