The Relationship between Sociodemographic Characteristics of Dyslexic Children
And their Higher Perceptual Functions

Research Abstract
Dyslexia is a failure to read at expected level. The sociodemographic characteristic of dyslexic children is suggested to affect their perceptual functions. Nurses have an important role in assessing children for any reading disability and help them to cope normally with any psychological distress. The aim of the study: Identifying the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics of dyslexic children and their perceptual function. Subjects and method: The study subjects were composed of 50 children (30 boys and 20 girls). The study was conducted at child outpatient clinic of psychiatric mental health hospital and psychiatric outpatient clinic of Assiut university hospital during one year duration from 30 th November 2012 until 30 th November 2013. Children were assessed through visual and auditory memory tests, in addition to socio economic assessment scale. Results: There was a significant difference as regard sex in which females outperform males but there was no significant difference as regard to age, residence, and socioeconomic levels in relation to visual and auditory memory results .Conclusion and Recommendation: Only sex has a relation to the cognitive function of dyslexic children in which girls outperform boys. Intensive attention should be given to male dyslexic children to improve their cognitive functions.

Occupational stress, its psychosomatic symptoms on nurses and Coping strategies of nurses at Assiut University Hospital

Research Abstract
Nursing is a stressful profession; stress is a prevalent and costly problem in today's workplace. Aim: The study aimed to assess occupational stressors and coping strategies of nurses at Assiut University Hospital. Design: A descriptive- cross sectional design was utilized in this study. Subjects and methods: The subjects included in this study 150 female nurses. The study was conducted at Assiut University Hospital at different hospital departments (general intensive care unit, medical emergency unit, burn unit, operation theatres of general and special surgery, Neurology & Psychiatry department, internal medicine department, general and special surgery departments and trumatology unit),during 6 months period from 1st January to 30th Juan 2012. Nurses were assessed through; the sociodemographic data questionnaire, in addition to socioeconomic status scale, Social readjustment rating scale, Assessment level of stress scale, Coping strategies rating scale, and Symptoms Check List (SCL-90-Revised). Results: More than half of nurses (54.7%) were from urban areas, about fifty percent 50.7% of them had more than 10 years of experience, and sixty four percent 64% of nurses had moderate level of stress. Both methods of coping strategies (emotional focused strategies and problem focused strategies) had high mean scores and very highly significant (0.006*** & 0.000***), Recommendation: A training programme is essential for nurses to provide them with a multitude of stress management techniques and coping strategies which nurses can be used to deal with their stressors and avoid the negative effect of stress on nurse' health.

Burden and coping strategies among caregivers of mood disorder patients

Research Abstract
Introduction: Caregiving is a dynamic process which includes patient and a person who is involved in long term care of the patient. This long term care very often leads to experience of burden in the caregivers. It is important to understand caregiver’s coping strategies for tackling burden. Aim: The study aimed to investigate burden and coping strategies among caregivers of mood disorder patients and examine the relationship between burden and coping strategies among them. Design: A descriptive design was utilized in this study. Setting: The study was carried out at inpatient unit at neuropsychiatry and neurosurgical hospital at Assiut University. Sample: The sample comprised of 100 caregivers of mood patients. Tools: Tools of study comprised of personal data questionnaire, mood disorder burden index (MDBI) and ways of coping questionnaire. Results: The highest mean scores of burden of exhibited specific behaviors by patients were related to sleeping too much (2.45 ± 1.52), that patients said there were too many thoughts running through their head (2.05 ± 1.51) and they were more talkative than usual (2.05 ± 1.51). Also, the highest mean scores of the caregivers' burden (Bother or upset) were related to sleeping too much (2.25 ± 1.15), caregivers felt that patients had withdrawn from them (2.10 ± 1.01), caregivers felt that efforts to be helpful to patient when patient was having mood problems were rejected (2.06 ± 1.05) and caregiver felt a loss of companionship or closeness with patient as a result of patient’s mood disorder (2.03 ± 1.20). Regarding coping strategies, the highest mean scores were related to self-controlling (9.89 ± 4.01), positive reappraisal (9.42 ± 3.90) and seeking social support (9.25 ± 4.43) respectively. Self-controlling, planful problem solving and positive reappraisal were positively and significantly correlated with frequency of exhibited specific behaviors by patients (r=0.311, 0.363, &0.245 with p-value = 0.002, 0.000 & 0.014) respectively and caregivers' bother or upset (r= 0.261, 0.416 &0.252 with p-value = 0.009, 0.000 &0.011) respectively. Conclusion: Caregivers of patients with mood disorder experienced high mean scores of burden related to the frequency of symptoms exhibited by patients and caregivers' bother or upset. The highest mean scores of coping strategies utilized by them were related to self-controlling, positive reappraisal and seeking social support. Self-controlling, planful problem solving and positive reappraisal were positively and significantly correlated with some of exhibited specific behaviors by patients and caregivers' bother or upset. Recommendations: Designing and implementing psychoeducational programs are essential for caregivers of patients with mood disorders to provide them stress management skills and healthy coping strategies.
