Professor El-Minshawy: The exhibition showcases innovative models supporting environmental, food, and industrial sustainability while promoting a culture of recycling and innovation among students.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated today, Wednesday, 10 December, the “Sustainable Environmental Recycling” exhibition, held as part of the “First Scientific Forum: Green Sustainable Environmental Projects.” The event was organized under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Chair of the Forum.

The inauguration was attended by Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, Secretary-General of the Forum; Professor Saleh Ismail, Forum Coordinator; and Ms. Riham El-Hefnawy, Forum Liaison Officer.

The exhibition was organized under the guidance of Professor Mohamed Abdel-Baset, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Rehab Ahmed Zaki, Assistant Professor in the Department of Art Education, Faculty of Specific Education.

The exhibition featured over 300 projects and products across environmental, food, industrial, and artistic recycling and innovation fields, reflecting the efforts of the university’s faculties in promoting sustainability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on campus.

During his tour of the exhibition, Professor El-Minshawy praised the innovative environmental and sustainable projects on display, emphasizing that the students’ work serves as a practical model for raising awareness of the importance of conserving natural resources, reducing environmental impact, promoting innovation, and encouraging small-scale environmentally conscious projects. He also highlighted the opportunities such initiatives create for collaboration between the university, industry, and the local community, equipping students with practical skills to apply sustainability concepts in daily life and future projects.

Professor Mohamed Adawy noted that participating faculties included the Faculty of Early Childhood Education, the Faculty of Specific Education, the Faculty of Computers and Information, the Faculty of Sugar Industry Technology and Integrated Industries, and the Faculty of Agriculture. Each faculty presented a distinguished set of projects, including marketable products, artworks, handicrafts, and food items, reflecting the unique identity of each faculty and its areas of innovation, while promoting a culture of sustainability and creativity among students.

In recognition of his continuous support for environmental initiatives at the university, Professor Mohamed Adawy presented the Forum Shield of the “First Scientific Forum: Green Sustainable Environmental Projects” to Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy.

The exhibition was also attended by Professor Taisser Hassan Abdel-Hamid, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information; Professor Adel Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture; Professor Saleh Mahmoud Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Sugar Industry Technology and Integrated Industries; Dr. Riham Rifaat El-Meligy, Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education; and Professor Yasmine El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, along with numerous vice-deans, faculty members, and students from the participating faculties.

Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University Holds the 8th Community Environmental Day on “Health and Social Risks of Sports Doping”

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine organized the 8th Community Environmental Day under the theme “Health and Social Risks of Sports Doping”. The event was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chair of the University Hospitals Board; Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; and Dr. Medhat El-Arabi, Professor of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine and coordinator of the day’s activities.

The event saw the participation of Professor Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Khaled Abdel Aziz, Director of the Main University Hospital; as well as a number of faculty members, teaching assistants from the Faculties of Medicine and Sports Sciences, and other staff members.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy highlighted the University’s commitment to health awareness as a core component of building individuals and society. He emphasized that the use of sports doping represents a real threat to youth if not accompanied by proper medical awareness and health education. He added that the activities of the Environmental Day aim to shed light on the health and social risks of sports doping while promoting a culture of responsibility and awareness among young people.

Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy noted that addressing the phenomenon of sports doping requires a coordinated effort among educational, medical, and media institutions to protect youth and promote healthy lifestyle practices. He emphasized that the University seeks through this Environmental Day to educate students about the risks and ethical implications of doping, encouraging safe and responsible athletic practices that contribute to the development of a strong and aware generation.

Professor Alaa Attia stated that sports are a cornerstone of public health, yet the misuse of sports doping transforms them into a serious threat to individual health. He highlighted the growing prevalence of doping among youth and its severe health consequences, including kidney and liver failure, as well as hormonal and psychological disorders.

Professor Mohamed Abdel Rahman pointed out that sports doping has become one of the most dangerous threats to youth health, especially with the widespread promotion of products on social media under misleading labels such as “performance enhancement” or “muscle building,” without warning of potential health risks.

Professor Hoda Makhlouf emphasized that organizing the Environmental Day is part of the Faculty of Medicine’s community role, aiming to raise awareness among youth about the medical and ethical risks associated with unsupervised use of doping and dietary supplements. She stressed the importance of delivering awareness messages both inside and outside the University.

Professor Khaled Abdel Aziz highlighted the ongoing collaboration between University Hospitals and the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine to support health awareness initiatives. He noted that the dangers of doping are not limited to athletes but also affect non-athletes due to their severe health implications.

Professor Medhat El-Arabi outlined that the Environmental Day included several specialized scientific lectures. These comprised a lecture on the key health risks of hormones and sports doping for individuals and society, a session on “Drug and Doping Analysis at Assiut University Hospitals: Positive or Negative Results” presented by Professor Hanan Said Farghly, Head of the Pharmacology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, and a lecture on “Doping and Supplements: Effects on Performance and Ethical Risks for Individuals and Society” delivered by Dr. Emad Shaaban, Professor at the Faculty of Sports Sciences. Additional lectures included “Dietary Supplements in Sports: Between Fact and Fiction” by Dr. Doaa Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Assistant Professor of Forensic Medicine and Clinical Toxicology, and “Common Dietary Supplements and Sports Doping Substances in the Egyptian Market” by Dr. Ali Nour, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Faculty of Early Childhood Education at Assiut University Organizes a Seminar on “Data Protection in the Digital Age: Awareness, Law, and Security” in Cooperation with the National Council for Women – Assiut Branch

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Faculty of Early Childhood Education organized a seminar entitled “Data Protection in the Digital Age: Awareness, Law, and Security” on Tuesday, December 9, in cooperation with the National Council for Women – Assiut Branch.

The seminar was held under the supervision and attendance of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Professor Reham El-Meligy, Dean of the Faculty; and Dr. Lamyaa Kedwany, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Marwa Kedwany, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Assiut, and Ms. Islam Atef, Lawyer at the Complaints Office of the National Council for Women in Assiut.

The event was attended by Dr. Manal Anwar, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies and Research, along with department heads, faculty members, teaching assistants from various faculties, and a large number of students.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed the University’s commitment to its societal role in addressing the challenges of the digital age, noting that data protection has become an essential component of the culture of awareness that the University seeks to instill among its students and affiliates. He added that cooperation with the National Council for Women in Assiut comes within the framework of unifying efforts to promote safe digital knowledge and provide students with the legal and behavioral awareness necessary for responsible interaction with modern technology.

Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy emphasized that Assiut University places increasing importance on spreading digital awareness in light of the rapid global developments in information technology. He noted that maintaining safety in the digital space has become an urgent necessity in both personal life and the workplace, adding that adopting safe digital practices—such as securing devices, regularly updating passwords, and responding appropriately to cyber threats—contributes to building a more aware and secure digital society.

For her part, Dr. Reham El-Meligy stated that the seminar falls within the University’s and the Faculty’s efforts to enhance digital awareness and protect personal data, particularly in light of the growing risks facing young people, especially female students, in the digital environment. She also warned against online fraud and electronic scams, advising students to safeguard their personal data and images and to seek support from competent authorities if exposed to any form of cyber extortion.

Dr. Lamyaa Kedwany stressed the importance of the seminar in raising awareness among University members about best practices for data protection and privacy preservation, particularly with the widespread digital transformation across Egyptian universities and various aspects of daily life.

During her presentation, Dr. Marwa Kedwany reviewed the roles and activities of the National Council for Women in Assiut and its efforts to raise awareness among students regarding internet risks and personal data protection. She explained that the Council is a governmental body dedicated to promoting and empowering women’s rights economically, politically, and socially, and that it regularly organizes workshops and awareness programs to educate girls and women on digital privacy, electronic fraud methods, and how to deal with cyber blackmail or digital threats.

Ms. Islam Atef addressed the issue of cyber violence, defining it as aggressive behavior directed by an individual against a person or group through the use of technology. She outlined the causes behind the spread of cyber violence and its various forms, including blackmail, threats, defamation, and cyberstalking—forms that particularly affect female university students and women in general. She also discussed Law No. 175 of 2018 on Combating Information Technology Crimes, highlighting ways to avoid cyber violence, methods for securing personal accounts, and the role of the family and society in reducing the misuse of technology.

Assiut University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector Reviews Its Executive Plan for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Assiut University held its first meeting to review the sector’s executive plan for the 2024/2025 academic year, within the framework of the University’s Strategic Plan (2024–2029).

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, emphasized that strategic plans play a vital and fundamental role in guiding the work of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector. He noted that these plans are directly linked to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, underscoring the importance of systematic planning and continuous evaluation.

Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, met with members of the executive plan follow-up team and stressed the necessity of identifying the gap between what has already been implemented and what was originally planned within the executive plan. He also highlighted the critical importance of evaluating the first year of the strategic plan to ensure proper alignment and progress during the remaining years.

During the meeting, Dr. Omar Saeed, Committee Coordinator, reviewed the objectives and overarching goals of the executive plan derived from the University’s Strategic Plan (2024–2029). He emphasized the need to ensure full alignment between operational activities and the sector’s broader strategic objectives. It was affirmed that the primary goal at this stage is to develop an immediate and comprehensive action plan to review completed activities and verify the actual achievement of the targeted strategic goals during the first year of implementation.

The committee also discussed, in the presence of Professor Khaled Fathy, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, Professor at the Faculty of Education; and Dr. Mostafa Qayed, Lecturer at the Faculty of Commerce, the urgent need for accurate quantitative data and clearly defined performance indicators to assess success across the axes of environmental development, community partnership, and institutional responsibility.

The meeting further emphasized that the review process must include identifying the causes of any delays or deviations from the planned course, as well as developing proactive solutions to address them.

Committee Recommendations:

  • Submission of Detailed Progress Reports: Requiring all concerned departments and units to submit concise, data-supported progress reports outlining what has been achieved for each objective during the first year.
  • Identification of Performance Gaps: Summarizing and analyzing submitted reports to clearly identify objectives that have not reached the required completion rates.
  • Reprioritization of Activities: Compiling a list of the most critical uncompleted activities from the first year and incorporating them as top priorities in upcoming quarterly action plans to ensure overall strategic progress.
  • Monthly Follow-Up Meetings: Recommending the convening of fixed monthly meetings for the committee over the next three months, instead of seasonal meetings, to closely monitor corrective action plans and swiftly address performance gaps.
  • Enhancing Internal Communication: Emphasizing the activation of effective communication mechanisms among implementation entities to ensure continuous coordination and prevent duplication of efforts or information gaps.

Assiut University Holds Community Consultation Session to Assess Environmental Impact of New Hazardous Medical Waste Incineration Complex at University Hospitals

Assiut University held today a community consultation session for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the new hazardous medical waste incineration complex at its University Hospitals in the Western Desert hinterland. The session was held under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, with the participation of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the supervision of Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals.

The session was attended by Dr. Shehata El-Daba, Engineering Advisor to the University President; Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud, Environmental Supervisor at the University Hospitals; directors of university hospitals; deans of faculties; officials from the Ministry of Health, the Environmental Affairs Agency, and the Directorate of Health Affairs; as well as specialists from the General Administration of Solid Waste in Assiut Governorate, Occupational Health and Safety departments at university hospitals, and other relevant stakeholders.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the university’s commitment to enhancing the role of Assiut University Hospitals in providing advanced medical and therapeutic services to the residents of Upper Egypt. He highlighted that the hospitals represent an extension of the university’s mission in community service and adhere to the highest standards of occupational safety and health to protect patients, staff, and the broader community.

The university president stressed the importance of the environmental dimension in hospital operations, noting the ongoing efforts to develop medical waste management systems that safeguard the environment and minimize health risks. He underscored that such initiatives align with international standards and Egypt’s Vision 2030 for environmental and public health sustainability.

Professor El-Minshawy also highlighted the pivotal role of the university hospitals in building the capacities of medical and therapeutic staff through continuous training and education, while providing a safe and sustainable work environment, reflecting the university’s social responsibility toward local and regional communities and ensuring comprehensive, high-quality medical services.

Professor Mohamed Adawy underlined the session’s importance from environmental, societal, ethical, and security perspectives. He explained that community consultation sessions provide genuine opportunities for dialogue and exchange of perspectives among all stakeholders, serving as a fundamental step in establishing sound waste management policies and promoting environmental sustainability. He added that the world is witnessing a significant shift toward environmental awareness, which Assiut University is committed to embracing through projects that comply with international standards and support sustainable development goals.

Professor Adawy also emphasized the university’s dedication to fulfilling its environmental and social responsibilities, praising the central role of Assiut University Hospitals in delivering advanced medical services to Upper Egypt and the need to enhance medical waste management systems to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and the community.

Professor Alaa Attia stated that the consultation session represents an important milestone for collaborative work among various stakeholders. He noted that the project aims to achieve the safe disposal of medical waste while generating positive environmental outcomes for community health. He highlighted that the university hospitals, with over 4,000 beds, produce a substantial volume of medical waste, and the new facilities respond to this need while complementing the existing waste management system, reinforcing the university’s efforts to protect the environment and safeguard public health.

The session also included discussions on potential environmental impacts during both the construction and operational phases of the project. The EIA study provided a comprehensive description of the proposed site, including its geographic location, climate, agriculture, population, industry, and the legal and regulatory framework. It evaluated expected environmental impacts such as noise, air and water quality, soil and groundwater effects, visual impact, occupational health and safety, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and traffic impacts during construction.

Additionally, the session reviewed potential environmental, social, and economic benefits of the project, alongside an overview of the incinerators to be installed at the new complex.

At the conclusion of the session, participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure the implementation of environmental protection measures, achieve a balance between development and environmental preservation, and comply with standards to safeguard public health and sustain environmental resources.

Assiut University Hosts the Fourth Edition of DevFest Assiut ’25, Upper Egypt’s Largest Technology Conference

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed Al-Manshawy, President of Assiut University, the fourth edition of the technology conference DevFest Assiut ’25 officially opened on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The event is organized by Google Developer Groups (GDG) Assiut in cooperation with Assiut University and Badr University, and was attended by Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President of Assiut University for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The conference is held under the supervision of Professor Taisser Hassan Abdel-Hamid, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information at Assiut University, and Professor Abdul Rahman Haidar, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at Badr University. The organizing committee is co-chaired by Eng. Abdul Rahman Eyad, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, Badr University, and Eng. Omar Salah, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Computers and Information, Assiut University.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Khaled Fathy, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information for Education and Student Affairs at Assiut University, and Eng. Ayman Eyad, Director of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) Branch at Assiut University, along with a large gathering of faculty members and teaching assistants, technology developers and professionals, senior executives from IT companies, as well as school students from Assiut Governorate and students and graduates of Assiut University.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that DevFest Assiut ’25 represents a vital platform for fostering innovation, spreading technological culture among students and developers, and strengthening links with the labor market and its real needs. He affirmed the University’s commitment to empowering youth with modern technical skills and keeping pace with the latest developments in artificial intelligence and programming, thereby enhancing their competitiveness locally and internationally and reinforcing the University’s role in preparing an innovative and entrepreneurial generation.

In his opening remarks, Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla welcomed the organizers and participants, stressing Assiut University’s keenness to expand cooperation with development partners from industry and the business sector to identify labor-market needs and present modern ideas and programs in line with Egypt’s national vision and higher education strategy—particularly in innovation, youth capacity building, and technical and professional skills development. He encouraged students and graduates to benefit from the conference activities and engage with participating companies to showcase their skills and experiences as a step toward effective integration into the labor market.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy praised Assiut University’s leading role in promoting technological culture and introducing youth to cutting-edge technologies by providing a competitive environment that brings together companies and entrepreneurs to identify and invest in young talent. He noted that the conference contributes to launching initiatives that enhance youth capabilities and enable them to integrate into the future labor market, wishing continued success to Assiut University and GDG Assiut.

Professor Taisser Hassan Abdel-Hamid explained that DevFest Assiut ’25 features, over two days, a wide range of workshops and specialized sessions covering topics such as AI trends, effective artificial intelligence, web programming fundamentals, implementing AI-based software solutions, machine learning in cloud computing through Google services, as well as sessions on freelancing opportunities, cybersecurity, web application security, and career readiness skills.

Professor Abdul Rahman Haidar noted that the conference is the largest of its kind in Upper Egypt, attracting developers, students, and professionals to discuss the latest technologies in artificial intelligence, application development, and software engineering. He emphasized that participants share a common goal of empowering youth and enabling them to contribute effectively to community development, expressing his hope that attendees would benefit from the expertise of specialists in information technology, programming, and artificial intelligence.

 

Assiut University Organizes Seminar Titled “Your Future Matters: Debt between Reality and Challenges” at the Faculty of Commerce

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Sector of Community Service and Environmental Development at the Faculty of Commerce organized a seminar titled “Your Future Matters: Debt between Reality and Challenges.” The seminar was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Abdel-Hafiz, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; and Professor Amal El-Daly, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The seminar was attended by faculty members and their assistants, administrative staff, and students. The lectures were delivered by Mr. Mohamed Farag, Director of Misr El-Kheir Foundation Office in Assiut, and Mr. Haitham Mahmoud, Director of Legal Procedures at Misr El-Kheir Foundation in Cairo.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized the importance of organizing such events that raise awareness among students and the wider community about economic and social issues, thereby strengthening the University’s role in community service and supporting sustainable development. He noted that initiatives of this kind empower young people to better understand the challenges of financial responsibility and to make informed decisions that help safeguard their future and ensure family stability.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy stated that the University is keen to serve the community and address economic and social phenomena that affect the stability of families and youth. He pointed out that debt has become a pressing issue requiring proper awareness and sound guidance from trusted sources to enhance prevention and address its challenges. He added that such seminars are an integral part of the University’s mission to support sustainable development and achieve social and economic security within society.

Professor Alaa Abdel-Hafiz highlighted the Faculty’s role in enhancing economic awareness among its students, explaining that debt is a phenomenon that necessitates scientific discussion due to its direct impact on societal stability and young people’s ability to manage their financial affairs. He added that the Faculty of Commerce is committed to preparing well-informed graduates capable of making sound decisions, stressing that such seminars are a fundamental pillar in building students with strong economic thinking skills.

Professor Amal El-Daly noted that awareness of debt has become a real necessity in light of the rapid development of financial transaction patterns. She explained that a lack of proper knowledge may lead young people to engage in risky financial practices without fully understanding their consequences. She affirmed that the Faculty works to promote a culture of economic responsibility among students through purposeful activities that empower them to make informed decisions, enhance their ability to face growing financial challenges, and protect their future from falling into cycles of debt and its repercussions.

Assiut University Launches Training Program on “Using Artificial Intelligence in Strategic Situation Assessment” for PPIS Students

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the training program titled “Using Artificial Intelligence in Strategic Situation Assessment” was launched on Saturday, December 6, 2025, targeting students of the Public Policy Information Systems (PPIS) program. The program is organized in cooperation between Assiut University and the National Center for Studies, and runs from December 6 to 8, 2025.

The program is held under the supervision of Major General Ahmed Al-Shahaby, President of the National Center for Studies; Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Major General Professor Ahmed Farouk, Advisor to the National Center for Studies; and Mr. Hany Al-Aasar, Executive Director of the Center, with the participation of fourth-year students of the PPIS program at the Faculty of Commerce.

The implementation of this training program comes within Assiut University’s commitment to enhancing the skills of public policy students in data analysis, strategic situation assessment, and decision-making through the use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies. The program aims to better prepare students for integration into the labor market, particularly in institutions concerned with planning, crisis management, and public policy formulation.

During his inspection of the first day’s activities, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that the program reflects Assiut University’s vision to prepare a new generation of young professionals capable of understanding and analyzing complex situations using artificial intelligence tools and data science. He emphasized the University’s continuous efforts to provide high-quality training programs that equip students with practical experience and enhance their professional competitiveness, praising the ongoing cooperation with the National Center for Studies and its distinguished expertise in strategic training.

Professor Mohamed Adawy stated that the current stage requires qualified cadres who are well aware of national issues and capable of analyzing data and understanding public policy contexts. He noted that the program provides PPIS students with essential skills for comprehending decision-making processes, setting priorities, and assessing strategic situations using modern scientific methodologies.

In the same context, Major General Professor Ahmed Farouk, Advisor to the National Center for Studies, explained that the training focuses on introducing students to the mechanisms of building strategic assessments and employing artificial intelligence in analyzing complex data and extracting insights that support decision-makers. He added that students demonstrated strong engagement and a clear ability to grasp concepts related to strategic analysis, reflecting the program’s success in achieving its objectives.

For his part, Mr. Hany Al-Aasar, Executive Director of the National Center for Studies, noted that the program aims to strengthen students’ capabilities by training them on practical tools for information analysis, indicator interpretation, and linking data to potential scenarios. He emphasized the Center’s particular interest in supporting Assiut University students, recognizing their distinction and seriousness in learning.

The first day of the program concluded with significant student interaction, as participants praised the training content and the practical expertise it offers in developing their academic and professional skills in the field of public policy.

Assiut University Organizes a Health Awareness Day for School Students and Conducts Comprehensive Body Composition Screenings

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Youth Health
Center,
 affiliated with the Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine, organized a health awareness day for school students as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to serve the community and promote health awareness among students at various educational stages. The event was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Assiut University Hospitals.

 Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that Assiut University places great importance on strengthening health awareness within the community, particularly among school students, given its direct impact on building a generation capable of adopting healthy lifestyles. He explained that organizing health activities in schools aims to educate students about proper nutrition and healthy habits that help prevent malnutrition-related diseases and enhance their cognitive abilities and academic performance, in support of the state’s vision to invest in the health of the Egyptian citizen and improve quality of life.

The health awareness day included a series of educational seminars and lectures addressing malnutrition, obesity, and stunting, in addition to explaining the principles of planning healthy meals and methods for strengthening the immune system. Participants were also encouraged to avoid fast food and carbonated drinks, while highlighting the positive impact of healthy habits on mental activity and academic achievement.

Comprehensive nutritional assessments were conducted for students to measure body composition indicators, including fat, water, protein percentages, muscle mass, and caloric levels. Random blood glucose tests were also performed for teachers and school staff. These activities were carried out under the supervision of faculty members from the Department of Public Health, with the participation of Dr. Mariam Roshdy El-Khayat.

The program also featured awareness sessions on preparing balanced meals and the importance of physical activity in improving concentration and academic performance, with the participation of members of the Assiut Therapeutic Nutrition Association, under the supervision of Professor Osama El-Ashir, Professor of Pediatrics.

The event was organized by Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Akram Abdel-Khaleq, Head of the Department of Public Health; and Dr. Medhat Al-Arabi, Director of the Youth Health Center.

The Assiut University team was received by the administration of Smart International School, headed by Ms. Samah Helmy, General Director of Schools; Ms. Bothaina Obaid, Head of the Language Section; Major General Ahmed Salem; and Ms. Rola Refaat Riyad, who expressed their appreciation for the University’s community outreach efforts and its continued commitment to promoting student health and raising awareness of the principles of a healthy lifestyle.

Assiut University Organizes a Seminar Titled “Medical Liability Law: Between Legislation and Practice” at South Egypt Cancer Institute

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the South Egypt Cancer Institute organized a seminar entitled “Medical Liability Law: Between Legislation and Practice.” The event was attended by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Abu El-Magd, Dean of the Institute.

The seminar featured lectures by Professor Osama Abdel-Hai, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, and Professor Doueib Hussein Saber, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Legal Advisor to the President of the University. The event was also attended by Professor Amr Farouk Mourad, Vice Dean of the Institute for Community Service and Environmental Development and Seminar Coordinator; Professor Ibrahim Abu Al-Oyoun Gaber Mehran, Director of the Oncology Hospital; Professor Diaa El-Din Abdel-Hamid, Head of the Assiut Doctors’ Syndicate; in addition to a distinguished group of faculty members and their assistants, young trainee physicians, and hospital staff.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that Assiut University is keenly interested in all matters related to the development of the healthcare system and the support of a safe and professional working environment for physicians and healthcare providers. He noted that discussing the Medical Liability Law is a top priority for the University in enhancing legal awareness within medical institutions, in a manner that safeguards physicians’ rights and ensures patient safety. He added that the University is committed to fostering specialized dialogue between medical and legal experts, based on its belief that building an integrated healthcare system requires clear legislation, a secure work environment, and professional mechanisms that protect the rights of all parties and contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that organizing the seminar reflects the University’s commitment to addressing contemporary issues related to health policies and highlighting the legal and legislative aspects governing medical practice. He stressed the importance of enhancing legal awareness among physicians and healthcare workers to improve service quality and patient safety, noting that the seminar represents an important step toward strengthening cooperation within and beyond the University.

Professor Mohamed Abu El-Magd affirmed that the seminar reflects the Institute’s scientific and medical role in serving the community, pointing out that the Medical Liability Law—between reality and aspiration—is a vital topic of concern to both the medical and legal communities. He added that discussing such issues contributes to raising professional awareness among physicians and supports national efforts to develop the healthcare system and achieve the highest standards of quality and patient care.

In turn, Professor Osama Abdel-Hai commended Assiut University for opening avenues for specialized dialogue on professional issues, emphasizing that the Medical Liability Law is a fundamental pillar for protecting both physicians and patients alike. He noted that the Medical Syndicate closely follows efforts to draft the law in a manner that ensures a safe working environment for doctors and the provision of healthcare services based on discipline, clarity, and responsibility.

Professor Doueib Hussein Saber stated that the Medical Liability Law, between reality and aspiration, is a vital piece of legislation that requires careful consideration of its legislative and practical dimensions. He noted that the seminar addressed key themes, including the legal framework of medical liability, cases of medical error, procedures for investigating complaints, and realistic scenarios physicians may encounter in practice, praising such seminars for clarifying legal concepts and promoting a culture of professional accountability within healthcare institutions.

Professor Diaa El-Din Abdel-Hamid highlighted the importance of the seminar in raising physicians’ awareness of their legal rights and obligations, explaining that effective implementation of the Medical Liability Law requires a precise understanding of its nature and limits. He noted that the Syndicate continuously seeks to support medical professionals with legal knowledge that ensures safe professional practice while protecting the rights of patients and service providers.

Finally, Professor Amr Farouk Mourad emphasized the seminar’s role in strengthening professional and awareness-raising efforts among medical teams, noting that addressing the legal aspects of medical liability is essential to safeguarding the rights of healthcare providers and recipients alike. He added that the Institute is keen to organize events that serve the local community and raise awareness of health- and law-related issues associated with medical service delivery, thereby contributing to the creation of a safer and higher-quality healthcare environment.
