The Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University started a training program entitled:"Medical Fellowship of Critical Care"  This is the first training program of its type aiming at providing International Fellowship in critical care through a discussion of a number of important medical topics related to the medical handling of critical cases. The program continues for the duration of six months of intensive practical training in the field of critical care medicine. It is also one of the programs organized by the International Union of Anesthesia specialist societies with its a wide acclaim in training cadres on the basics of work at critical care rooms to achieve the best medical and treatment services according to the recognized standards.  

Under the Auspices of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Samiea, President of Assiut University, and the presence of Dr. Hasan Salah, Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development, Dr Thabet Abdel-Moneim, Director of the Centre for Environment Research and Studies, and a number of University Faculty members, proceedings of the forum on the use of coal as a substitute for energy started.   The forum was organized by the Centre for Environment Research and Studies and worked on three themes: The Future of Coal as a source of energy in Egypt, facing the effects of the use of coal in Egypt, and the answer to the question related to the feasibility of using coal as a source of energy.     

Candidate Ghada Shalaby Khalaf Mahran, Assistant Lecturer of Critical Cases Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, was granted the PhD degree after her defense of a Dissertation entitled: "The effect of the existence of the mother and listening to the Music on Children and their reactions to stress during Heart Bypass surgeries. The study concluded that calming sounds such as the mother's voice and the music during surgeries have been of positive effect. It also recommended the use of apparatuses measuring the degrees of anesthesia during surgeries performed with entire anesthetic effect. Moreover, the conclusion recommended that nursing staff receives proper training on the usage of such apparatuses during critical surgeries.

Assiut University participated in the Arab Open chess tournament, which included a large group of Egyptian and Arab universities under the slogan " One nation," was held at the University of Menoufia, and was attended by a delegation of students, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samie, president of Assiut University, and Prof. Dr. Adel Ryan, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs , who stated that the tournament witnessed a distinction (among the students of the eight participating universities) on the level of commitment, and performance. Dr. Adel added that the university got the second and fourth places.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samie, President of Assiut University, welcomed both Dr Abdul Wahab al-Ghandour, Secretary General of the fund of the development of education, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Yousuf, Deputy Minister of Education for Technical Education and Vocational Training in the presence of Dr. Adel Abdu Hussein, manager of the integrated technological educational complex. The guests praised the distinct and leading position of the university, which comprised eight faculties and two laboratories that got accreditation (on the local level) from the National Authority for Quality Assurance. The President of the University has announced that the next phase will witness concrete steps to rehabilitate the Faculty of Science, to gain accreditation on the international level.         

Assiut University witnessed the opening of a workshop on the projects of scientific research funded by the European Union, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Samie, Univeristy President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdou Gaeas, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Hassan Salah, Vice President for Community and Environmental Development and Dr. Ahmed Hassan, general coordinator of the university scientific research projects. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Hassan Salah emphasized the role of EU programs during the last period in support of higher education in Egypt by supporting a number of research projects of excellence in a large number of Egyptian universities, referring to the adoption of the university's policy for such projects that aim at the development of society and the pursuit of excellence and scientific leadership in the fields of education and scientific research. Dr. Ahmed Hassan gave a PowerPoint presentation in which he explained the definition of the program "Erasmus Plus" which is provided by the European Union, which began this year and includes under its umbrella all the relevant EU programs, scholarships, international cooperation and support policies, so as to achieve the primary goal to increase the Egyptian participation in these programs for optimizing the greatest efficiency in the fields of education and scientific research in collaboration with the European Union.  

Under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Samiea, President of Assiut University, the proceedings of the program arranged by the department of media, Faculty of Arts, started yesterday. The progrman was attended by Dr. Abdel Gawad-Tawfik, acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Omaima Omran, Head of the Media Department, Dr. Awatif Abdel-Rahman, Professor of Media, Cairo University, and a number of faculty members from Sohag and Minia universities. Dr. Omaima assured the importance of Egyptian Women and their role in the development of the community, and added that the three-day-program aims at providing Upper Egyptian media women with updates in the field so that they become aware of the effective role of women in the various avenues of media and communication.   

Faculty of Commerce, Assiut University held festivities on the occasion of the beginning of the academic year, reception of new students, and the passage of 50 years since its inauguration. The celebrations were held under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Samiea, President of Assiut University, Dr. Adel Rayan, Vice-President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ashraf Abdel-Badiea, acting Dean, Dr. Abdel Salam Noweir, vice-dean for student affairs, and a number of faculty members from various specializations.

Headed by Prof. Mohammed Abdel-Sameia, Assiut University Council has approved the Memo of understanding between Assiut University and the Sagrada Curacao University. The Memo aims at developing academic cooperation between the two sides in the field of human and health sciences. It also aims at encouraging scientific exchange of faculty members and students, graduate scholarships for Master's and Doctorate degrees, joint forums and conferences, and exchange of scientific and educational research projects on regular and sporadic bases
