Research Abstract
Objectives: Headache is one of the most common complaints in medicine. Epidemiological and population-based studies reported that migraine has a variable prevalence worldwide. This study was done to estimate the prevalence of migraine across various age groups in Assiut district, Egypt. Methods: This is a door-to-door study. It included 4700 randomly selected individuals. Results: Headache was reported in 1668 subjects (35.49%), of them, 87.65%(n= 1462) had primary headaches. Migraine prevalence was 10.51% with female-to- male ratio of 2.4: 1 particularly in ages of 20–40 years. The mean age of patients was 31.46±13.39 years and age at onset was 24.16±12.10 years. Nearly, 63.5% had frequent attacks, 65.2% of the attacks were severe enough to stop daily activities and lasted for> 1 day in 32.5% of females compared to 40.7% and 14.5% for males. Chronic or daily

Magnetic resonance angiography in evaluation of acute intracranial steno-occlusive arterial disease

Research Abstract
Objectives Assessment of the diagnostic usefulness of MRA in evaluation of patients with acute intra cranial steno-occlusive arterial disease. Patients and methods 84 patients with acute intracranial steno-occlusive arterial disease were subjected to the following brain MRI protocol: Axials DWI, T1WI, T2WI, FLAIR, T2∗ Gradient Echo Imaging and 3D TOF MRA. Results Eighty four patients (M/F= 49/35) aged between 28 and 86 years. MRA findings of arterial segments correlated with location of the ischemic lesions described by different MRI sequences including the DWI in all cases (100%). MRA of the intracranial vessels revealed 60 arterial segments with occlusions/absent flow. Occlusions were most common in MCAs (n= 45) followed by PCAs (n= 9). 31 arterial segments with stenosis were seen, and they were mainly affecting arterial territories of PCAs (n= 16). Atheromatous plaques were …

spectrum of epilepsy–prevalence, impact, and treatment gap: an epidemiological study from al-Quseir, egypt

Research Abstract
Background Epidemiology continues to be an important research tool in the study of epilepsy and related disorders, providing a better understanding of the frequency, causes, and natural history of the disorder. Objective To estimate the prevalence of epilepsy in Al- Quseir, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt, and its magnitude of treatment gap. Methods The study was part of a door-to-door study, including every door, to screen all inhabitants in Al- Quseir (33,818 inhabitants) by three specialists of neurology and 15 female social workers (for demographic data collection) using a standardized screening questionnaire. All suspected cases were subjected to detailed history, clinical examination, and electroencephalogram. Neuroimaging studies and estimation of serum drug level were done in select cases if needed. Results The study revealed that the lifetime prevalence rate of …
