President of Assiut University Attends the Opening of the “Rural Women and Economic Empowerment” Forum in Cooperation with the National Council for Women

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, praised the efforts of the National Council for Women in supporting projects that promote economic and social empowerment, as well as the “Rural Women” Committee for its role in developing the skills of women in villages. He also extended his appreciation to the Centers for Community Problem Observation and Study, and Civil Society Support for their contributions to advancing women’s causes and community development.

For his part, Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem explained that the forum aims to enhance the capabilities of rural women and train them in simple crafts to promote sustainable development. Professor Ali Kamal Maabad added that three groups of women from villages across Assiut are receiving training in small-scale food and craft industries in cooperation with the Faculties of Agriculture and Specific Education.

The forum featured successful models of rural women’s entrepreneurial projects, including ʿArab al-Kallabat, Tahwisha, Mostaqbaly, Bab Amal, and Ru’ya. It also included the opening of an exhibition showcasing products made by rural women and local NGOs, featuring handicrafts, textiles, dairy products, and agricultural goods.

President of Assiut University Reviews the Work Plan of the Supreme Committee for Training and Development to Meet Labor Market Needs

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, reviewed the upcoming work plan of the Supreme Committee for Training and Development, which aims to activate cross-disciplinary and interactive training programs across various university sectors. The plan also includes establishing cooperation protocols with external community institutions to align training initiatives with the needs of the labor market.

For his part, Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem explained that the committee seeks to connect training requirements with market and business sector demands, develop specialized skills to prepare graduates for employment, and enhance the competencies of staff members within and beyond the university. The committee further promotes a culture of continuous development and self-learning, contributing to human development and community service.

Assiut University Organizes a Forum on “Rural Women and Achieving Economic Empowerment” in Cooperation with the National Council for Women

The forum aims to encourage women to establish small and micro enterprises, empowering them to achieve financial independence for themselves and their families, while highlighting the vital role of rural women in supporting the national economy and their communities.

The event features an exhibition titled “Rural Women’s Products” in the administrative building hall, alongside presentations of successful projects led by rural women, including the Rural Women Project in ʿArab al-Kallabat village, as well as the Tahweesha, Mostaqbaly, Bab Amal, and Ru’ya initiatives. The forum also includes training sessions for three groups of women from Assiut’s villages on establishing small home-based enterprises.

Assiut University Council for Community Service and Environmental Development Highlights Collective Efforts and Activities in Sustainable Development and Environmental Preservation during its January 2025 Meeting

Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem noted that the meeting reviewed the sector’s achievements in the fields of sustainable development, environmental protection, resource conservation, energy efficiency, civil defense, and literacy and adult education. It also discussed the implementation plans of the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, Education, Commerce, and Science within the sector’s 2024–2029 strategic plan.

The meeting further explored ways to strengthen national belonging and civic responsibility through educational seminars, field visits, sports activities, and experience-sharing lectures, in addition to reviewing the proposal to adopt the initiative “Our Country is a Trust in Our Hands.”

Assiut University Announces the 73rd Edition of the “University Teacher Preparation” Course for Teaching Assistants and Researchers

The course aims to enhance the educational and pedagogical skills of participants on scientific and methodological bases, preparing them for effective university teaching. It focuses on developing trainees’ competencies in planning, effective communication, and preparing course and program files, thereby contributing to improving the quality of education at Assiut University and other Egyptian universities.

The course covers a range of specialized topics, including:

University education and its role in community service
• Modern university teaching skills
• The role of scientific research in educational development
• The role of student activities in supporting the educational process
• Principles of education and modern evaluation standards
• Contemporary trends in higher education systems in developed countries

Assiut University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Achievements During the First Semester of the Academic Year 2024–2025

Assiut University Continues Its Developmental Mission in Service of Society and Sustainable Development

Assiut University, through the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, has implemented a wide range of community-centered initiatives and activities under the slogan “A New Beginning for Building the Human Being.” These efforts included comprehensive outreach convoys, medical, veterinary, agricultural, and psychological, along with awareness seminars and training workshops addressing topics such as:
Blood-borne viruses
• Solar energy and its role in sustainable development
• Smoking: health and religious perspectives
• Artificial intelligence and its relation to health sciences
• Civil defense and the use of fire extinguishers in emergencies

These initiatives aim to support community and environmental development, promote health and social awareness, empower women and youth, and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Assiut Governorate and among university students.

The University also organized an introductory day for the Women’s Economic and Social Empowerment Program as part of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Afdal Development Association in Assiut. In addition, a joint seminar was held with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the American University in Cairo, titled “Using Scientific Evidence in Public Policy Making.”

The University launched a training guide for providing social and health counseling at hospitals across Assiut Governorate and organized field visits for students to introduce them to national projects, including the New Assiut Technology Park.

In support of entrepreneurship and employment, Assiut University held several awareness seminars, including:
Freelance Opportunities for Youth – Work from Home: Together to End Unemployment
• Labor Market Needs
• Human Capital and Preparing Graduates for the Job Market
• A Career Day titled “Your Path after Graduation”

The University also celebrated the International Volunteer Day under the slogan “Together for Building Sustainable Communities,” and held a scientific day on nursing and healthy living with diabetes, as well as a series of awareness sessions on breast cancer as part of the “Pink October” campaign.

In support of youth and small enterprises, the University organized a marketing exhibition for small projects in collaboration with the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA). Additionally, it launched activities under the initiative Ehna Meen” (Who We Are) in cooperation with Yaro Foundation for Egyptian Civilization and Misr El Kheir Foundation, aimed at strengthening national identity and fostering a sense of belonging among children.

The semester’s activities concluded with a series of seminars and training courses held as part of the National Project for Literacy and Adult Education, in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education, reaffirming the University’s commitment to the right to education for all and to the realization of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Assiut University Recycles Solid Waste into Modern Furniture at University Dormitories

Assiut University has successfully implemented an innovative initiative for recycling solid waste into new and contemporary furniture within the student dormitories. The project was executed by the Carpentry, Metalwork, Painting, and Upholstery units of the Maintenance Department.

Large quantities of damaged wood resulting from furniture renovations in Dormitory Buildings (1) and (H) for female students were repurposed and transformed into living room sets (sofas and corner seating). These pieces were newly painted and upholstered for placement in the dormitory common areas. Two seating areas have already been completed in Building (1), with work underway to complete an additional four in Building (H).

The initiative also included recycling old furniture and used vehicle tires into comfortable seating units, tables, and decorative wall art. Metal plant stands were fabricated, and empty paint containers were repurposed for planting ornamental greenery, enhancing the aesthetic environment of the dormitories.

Assiut University Announces the Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Commerce on Sustainability in Business and Financial Sciences

Assiut University has announced the organization of the Faculty of Commerce’s Scientific Conference titled “Sustainability in Business and Financial Sciences.”

The conference targets faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students interested in sustainability-related topics within the fields of business and finance. It aims to provide a platform for discussing sustainability issues in business and financial research through a range of key themes, including sustainable finance, sustainable marketing, cyber insurance, the circular economy, digital technologies, and big data analytics.

The event aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the University’s strategy for advancing scientific research and promoting sustainable development

Assiut University Achieves Remarkable Advances in Global Rankings for 2024

Assiut University has achieved significant progress across several international university rankings for 2024, including the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, the Spanish Webometrics Ranking, and the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings in the field of Quality Education. The University was also listed among the top Arab universities in the Times Higher Education Arab University Rankings (THE Arab 2024) and ranked first among Egyptian universities and 75th globally in the category of Clean Water and Sanitation.

In the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2024, Assiut University was listed in eight scientific disciplines, including:
Chemical Engineering: 1st in Egypt and ranked 301–400 globally.
Mathematics: 5th in Egypt and 201–300 globally.
Veterinary Science: 9th in Egypt.
Pharmaceutical Sciences: 7th in Egypt and 301–400 globally.
Agricultural Sciences: 11th in Egypt and 401–500 globally.
Electronic Engineering: 2nd in Egypt and 401–500 globally.
Biotechnology: 4th in Egypt and 401–500 globally.

The University was also recognized in six subject areas in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, attaining the following positions:
Pharmacy and Pharmacology: 301–351 globally.
Agricultural Sciences: 401–450 globally.
Medicine: 451–500 globally.
Engineering and Technology: 501–550 globally.
Chemistry: 501–550 globally.
Biological Sciences: 651–670 globally.

Assiut University was ranked 5th nationally among 15 Egyptian universities listed in the QS World University Rankings 2024, which evaluate academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty–student ratio, research citations, and new indicators such as sustainability, employability, and international research collaboration.

In recognition of this outstanding performance, H.E. ProfessorAyman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, honored Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, during the ceremony celebrating Egyptian universities included in the QS World University Rankings.

Assiut University also achieved distinguished positions in the U.S. News Best Global Universities for Subjects, ranking:
Polymer Science: 75th globally.
Pharmacology and Toxicology: 124th globally.
Energy and Fuels: 205th globally.
Plant and Animal Science: 267th globally.
Environment/Ecology: 569th globally.

In the Turkish Higher Education Ranking (2024), the University was ranked 27th globally and 4th in Egypt out of 303 universities, reflecting excellence in quality standards, future vision, and digital accessibility development.

At the Arab regional level, Assiut University ranked 29th in the Arab world and 10th in Egypt in the QS Arab University Rankings 2024, and 6th nationally and 61–70 regionally in the THE Arab 2024 rankings.

In the field of Sustainable Development, Assiut University ranked 3rd nationally and 401st globally in the THE Impact Rankings 2024. It also achieved 1st place nationally and 75th globally in Clean Water and Sanitation, and 2nd in Egypt in the categories of No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Quality Education.

The University advanced 70 places in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, ranking 1,149th globally, 26th in the Arab world, and 21st in Africa.
In the CWUR Global Ranking 2024, Assiut University ranked 5th in Egypt and 1,101st globally.
In the U.S. News Best Global Universities 2024, the University moved up 221 places, ranking 489th globally and 16th in Africa, in addition to advancing 200 global positions in the THE Impact Ranking in the Quality Education category.

During 2024, 38 of the University’s scholars were listed among the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists, and the University recorded 521,899 research citations in Google Scholar, an increase of 47,649 citations in the first half of the year alone.

Furthermore, Assiut University was included in the inaugural edition of the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, ranking 251–300 globally and 8th in Egypt. It was also featured in the CWTS Leiden Open Edition 2024, ranking 670th globally, 6th in Egypt, and 13th in Africa.

Assiut University Organizes Workshop for Medical Interns Titled “The Doctor to Be” on Preparing the Future Physician

Assiut University organized a specialized workshop for medical interns from various clinical disciplines under the title “The Doctor to Be.” The event aimed to strengthen the competencies of newly graduated physicians and equip them with the clinical, professional, and interpersonal skills essential for effective and highly professional medical practice.

A distinguished group of faculty members delivered the workshop sessions, including:

Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President of Assiut University, who discussed the principles of delivering high-quality, respectful medical care, and fostering strong physician-patient relationships.
Professor Ahmed Makhlouf, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Badr University, who addressed modern trends in medical education, approaches to selecting a specialty, and strategies for successful career development.
Professor Ahmed Abbas, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who spoke about research skills and their importance in advancing clinical practice.
Professor Essam Rashad, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who highlighted the role of academic and professional mentorship in supporting junior physicians and guiding them toward success.
