President of Assiut University Praises “Rooftop Farming Initiative” as a Model for Sustainability and Food Security

Rooftop cultivation marks a step towards a greener and more sustainable future, aimed at raising environmental awareness and encouraging the use of underutilized spaces on campus to grow vegetables and medicinal and aromatic plants for food security and sustainable development.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, commended the Faculty of Agriculture’s initiative to cultivate rooftops with vegetables, medicinal, and aromatic plants. He affirmed that the project is a pioneering example that contributes to enhancing food security, improving air quality, and reducing the impacts of climate change.

The initiative is led by Professor Adel Mohamed Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education’s strategy to support the national economy and promote environmental awareness.

The President further noted that this initiative provides opportunities for youth and women to start small-scale agricultural enterprises and helps inculcate the importance of farming among children, thereby reinforcing the concept of sustainability within the university and the surrounding community.

The President of Assiut University highlights the importance of interdisciplinary medical collaboration in treating spina bifida, reaffirming the university's commitment to advancing comprehensive healthcare for patients and strengthening partnerships across medical fields and community organizations to provide the best possible prevention and treatment services.

Assiut University organized a distinguished scientific workshop at the Urology and Andrology Surgery Hospital, focusing on improving healthcare for patients with spina bifida. The workshop featured the participation of medical experts from Egypt, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, underscored the significance of multidisciplinary cooperation in delivering holistic care to affected children. He emphasized the importance of preventing congenital anomalies and called for the establishment of specialized clinics to support these patients.

The event included several scientific discussion sessions, attended by representatives from the Egyptian House of Representatives, the Senate, the Ministry of Health, and civil society organizations. The sessions addressed key topics such as the inclusion of people with disabilities in education and the workforce, the pivotal role of nursing, and the use of modern technology in enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.

 

Al-Azhar Students in Assiut Visit the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency in Collaboration with Assiut University's Community Problem-Monitoring Center

Assiut University and Al-Azhar University jointly organized a field visit to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency in Assiut under the "Partnership for Growth" initiative. The visit aimed to strengthen engagement between university students and the agency, equipping youth with essential knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship, and preparing them for the labor market in alignment with the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The visit was organized by the Center for Monitoring and Studying Community Problems at Assiut University, in cooperation with Al-Azhar University. The program introduced students to available opportunities for project support and funding, as well as mechanisms for vocational training and career development.
Commenting on the initiative, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, highlighted the importance of such programs in building youth capacities and contributing to sustainable development.

The visit concluded with several key recommendations, including the establishment of mentorship programs, entrepreneurship training courses, and encouraging students to volunteer and engage in real-world work environments to gain practical experience.

The medical procedures were conducted using Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), an advanced technique that delivers targeted chemotherapy at high temperatures directly into the abdominal cavity.

Assiut University’s Center for Sustainable Development Launches Training Programs and Strengthens Local and International Partnerships

Assiut University is intensifying its efforts to support sustainable development through a comprehensive training plan launched by the Center for Sustainable Development. The initiative aims to qualify professionals across various fields in alignment with the principles of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030, while fostering local and international partnerships to achieve inclusive development.

In line with the university’s strategy to promote sustainability concepts, the Center for Sustainable Development has proposed an integrated framework for a series of upcoming training courses designed to enhance the capacities of both university personnel and the wider community in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, emphasized that the Center serves as a key pillar in supporting sustainable development both locally and internationally. He highlighted the university’s commitment to forging international collaborations aimed at exchanging expertise and implementing projects that improve quality of life and support the green economy.

The statements were made during a meeting chaired by Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and attended by Professor Saleh Mahmoud Ismail, Director of the Center. The meeting discussed the Center’s action plan, which encompasses the implementation of training courses, documentation of sustainable activities, organization of events and workshops, and launching of student initiatives to promote environmental and societal awareness.

Assiut University’s Faculty of Social Work Organizes “Social Simulation” Workshop to Promote Health Awareness

The Faculty of Social Work at Assiut University organized a workshop titled “Social Simulation for Raising
Health Awareness among Visitors of Assiut University Hospitals
,” aimed at promoting health culture within the community and enhancing the role of social workers in the healthcare field through interactive simulation techniques.

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the workshop was held by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Social Work, under the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Professor Iman Abdel-Aal, Dean of the Faculty. The workshop was attended by a distinguished group of faculty members and students.

The event aimed to enhance health awareness, correct unhealthy dietary habits, and emphasize the importance of early disease detection in support of the University’s sustainability vision.

The workshop featured interactive activities and realistic simulation models that addressed methods of patient interaction and the dissemination of clear and accessible health guidelines. It also included a discussion session with Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem and participating students, focusing on the application of social work principles in the healthcare sector, contributing to raising community awareness and improving quality of life both within and beyond the university.

 

Assiut University’s Faculty of Fine Arts Launches the First Edition of Its Entrepreneurship and Innovative Projects Training Program

Faculty of Fine Arts at Assiut University introduces its inaugural entrepreneurship training program to develop students’ entrepreneurial skills and transform their innovative ideas into feasible projects.

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Faculty of Fine Arts launched the first edition of its specialized training program in entrepreneurship and innovative projects on March 10. The program will run until March 12 under the supervision of Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.

Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the program supports a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among university students, in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030. He noted that the initiative aims to equip students with the skills needed to compete in the labor market and contribute to sustainable development.

The program is overseen by Professor Mahmoud Abdel Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty. It is delivered with the participation of several faculty vice deans and academic staff members.

The training includes sessions on establishing start-ups, business model development, design thinking, and intellectual property protection, with contributions from a select group of experts and specialists in innovation and entrepreneurship.
