In the first session of the Seventh International Arab Conference for Quality Assurance, Dr. Yuhansen Eid, Chair, National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE), Egypt asserted that spreading awareness of quality culture within communities in addition to supporting the structures and self abilities of educational institutions to perform self evaluation and assessment represent the most remarkable aims through which the Authority works in Egypt. She also revealed that the Authority has 12 standards complying with regional and international standards for accreditation and that the universities which managed to obtain certificates of Quality and Academic Accreditation for the largest number of Faculties are Cairo University followed directly by Assiut University with nine accredited Faculties. However, no governmental university has been accredited until the present time.

With unprecedented international attendance from different Arab and Egyptian Universities, the opening proceedings of the Seventh International Arab Conference on Quality Assurance of Higher Education started at Assiut University. The conference is organized by the university in collaboration with the General Secretariat affiliated to the Association of Arab Universities. The conference activities will continue to Feb. 23, in Assiut and Luxor.    

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdo Geays, the university head, and with prof. Dr. Adel Al Nagdy’s, the college dean, efforts as well as prof. Dr. Aly Sayed Mohamed Abdel  Galeel, the head of the Department of Curricula and Instruction, a micro teaching laboratory has been created during February, 2017, a laboratory supported with the most modern instructional aids and video and audio monitors.

in the light of the contributions of the College of Education at Assiut University in the societal part, the College participated in the events of the comprehensive societal discourse related to the development and reform of education, organized by the Directorate of Education,Assiut governorate. The discourse is under the sponsorship of prof. Dr. Al-Helaly Al-Sherbiny, the minister of education, the engineer Yasser Al-Desouky who is Assiut governor, in The Secondary Hotel School at Assiut, with the presence of the house of the representatives members, prof. Dr. Adel Rasmy Hammad, the dean of the College of Education at Assiut. The conference covered the following FIVE dimensions: (curriculum development; evaluation, testing, and educational activities; professional education for the teacher and school leadership, the insertion of educational technology and e-learning in education; the special education and gifted welfare; technical education; and educational buildings). Worthy of mentioning is that the conference is based on a call from mr. president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in the Youth Conference in Sharm el-Sheik and as a follow up of the education development conference in the Scientific City in October City.The conference targets providing a national worksheet aims to reform education out of the box while being in line with current challenges and economic conditions.

Prof. Mostafa Al Sharqawy, Dean of South Egypt Cancer Institute announced the start of operating the new linear accelerator and pursuing radio therapy after more than a three-year-pause. This will end the suffering of thousands of patients in Upper Egypt who have been burdened with awful financial costs and travel hardships to get radio-therapy.

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President announced that the Centre for South Valley Development, Assiut University, will organize a conference on March 5-9, 2017 on Oily Clay and the Non-Traditional Sources of Energy for Sustainable Development in Africa. Dr. Hassan Abdul-Hamid, Centre Director indicated that the conference aims at allowing scholars interested in Oily Clay and non-traditional sources of energy to meet and exchange ideas and information on the recent projects and technology of producing new and renewable energy.

Engineer Yasser El-Dessouki, Governor of Assiut and Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Assiut University President honored the medical team responsible for performing the first marrow transplant to be performed in Upper Egypt for the 12-year-old child Mustafa Ragab Rashad. This official recognition comes as a reward for the medical team and the distinguished and sincere effort exerted to have this success in one of the most complex and minute surgeries.
