Under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, the university hosted the first meeting of the newly formed Board of Directors of the Arbitration Center at the Faculty of Law on Thursday, November 6th. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Doueib Hussein Saber, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board, and took place in the Faculty of Law Council Hall.

Attending the meeting were the following members of the Board of Directors: Counselor Abdel-Razek Mahmoud Shoaib, former Head of the State Lawsuits Authority; Mr. Abdel-Halim Allam, President of the Egyptian Bar Association and Head of the Arab Lawyers Union; Engineer Gihan Ahmed Ammar, Head of the Nasser City Authority in West Assiut (Al-Hadaba); Dr. Hammad Mustafa Azab, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Commercial Law; Dr. Ragab El-Kahlawy, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs; and Dr. Mohamed Refaat Abdel-Halim, Lecturer in the Department of Civil Law and Director of the Center.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mo'ammar Rateeb, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Ahmed Suleiman, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Graduate Studies and Research; Dr. Essam Zanaty, Professor at the Faculty and Vice President of Badr University in Assiut; Dr. Tharwat Abdel-Aal, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Aswan University; Dr. Khaled Gamal; and Dr. Nasser Othman, in addition to a number of department heads and law professors, including Dr. Anwar Mattawa, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aleem, Dr. Badr Ahmed Abdel-Salam, Dr. Adel Abdel-Rahman, Dr. Kamal El-Din Hussein, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Professor Emad Ramadan, Professor Hossam El-Hefnawy, Dr. Ashraf Gaballah, Professor Mohamed Karkab, Vice President of the General Syndicate of Lawyers, Professor Mohamed El-Gahhar, Head of the North Assiut Syndicate, and Professor Ahmed Fawaz, Secretary of the South Assiut Syndicate, as well as a number of members of the Lawyers Syndicate and several journalists and media representatives.

Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Arbitration Center at the Faculty of Law, emphasizing that the center represents a significant step in disseminating a culture of arbitration and resolving disputes fairly and efficiently, thus contributing to a more favorable investment climate and serving the community. He noted the university's commitment to supporting the center and strengthening cooperation with legal entities to develop the skills of its students and prepare them for the demands of the job market.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Dweib Saber welcomed the members of the board of directors and the center's guests, indicating that the meeting addressed the center's work plan for the coming period. This plan includes strengthening administrative staff, establishing an official website for the center, and organizing educational seminars for students and researchers. The board also discussed the possibility of signing cooperation protocols with several legal and commercial bodies and arbitration centers both within and outside Egypt, in addition to updating the list of accredited arbitrators at the center in accordance with its terms and the provisions of the Egyptian Arbitration Law No. 27 of 1994.

The board members expressed their delight at being present at the prestigious Assiut University and their pride in serving on the board of the Faculty of Law's Arbitration Center. They emphasized their commitment to contributing to the development of students' legal awareness and providing specialized knowledge in the field of arbitration, as well as supporting the swift and efficient resolution of civil, commercial, and administrative disputes. This, they affirmed, will contribute to improving the investment climate in Egypt and saving time and effort.

The meeting also included honoring Counselor Abdel-Razek Mahmoud Shoaib, former President of the State Lawsuits Authority; Professor Abdel-Halim Allam, President of the Egyptian Bar Association and Head of the Arab Lawyers Union; and Engineer Gihan Ahmed Ammar, Head of the Nasser City Authority in West Assiut (Al-Hadaba), in recognition of their active participation and prominent role in supporting the Center and assisting it in achieving its goals and the Faculty of Law's mission of serving the community.

It is worth noting that the Arbitration Center at the Faculty of Law, Assiut University, is a specialized unit established by Ministerial Decree No. (143) of 2006. The center is dedicated to promoting a culture of arbitration and raising awareness of its importance, as well as training and preparing specialized arbitrators to participate in domestic and international arbitration processes, thus contributing to linking academic work with community service. The center also organizes training courses and scientific conferences in the field of arbitration and fosters communication and cooperation with local and international arbitration centers to stay abreast of the latest developments and practices in this field.

Dr. Dweib Hussein Saber, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Assiut University and Legal Advisor to the University President, cast his vote at the polling station in Esmat Afifi School in the eastern district of Assiut. Dr. Ragab El-Kahlawy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, also cast his vote at a polling station in the city, as part of the second day of voting in the 2025 House of Representatives elections.

Dr. Dweib Hussein emphasized that participating in the elections is a national duty and a responsibility towards the nation. He pointed out that voting is the most important means of expressing the popular will and choosing those who represent citizens in Parliament. He added that political awareness reflects the spirit of national belonging among the Egyptian people.

For his part, Dr. Ragab El-Kahlawy noted that the high voter turnout reflects democratic maturity and citizens' concern for the country's future. He called on young people and students to exercise their constitutional right and participate in this national event.

The Dean of the College pointed out that the electoral process within the committees of Assiut Governorate is proceeding in an atmosphere of order and discipline, thanks to the sincere efforts of the judiciary, the police, and the executive authorities, which reflects the state’s keenness to provide a safe and fair environment for the conduct of the elections.

The Faculty of Law at Assiut University welcomed Professor Dr. Mahfouz Abdel-Sattar Abu El-Fadl, President of Hurghada University, during his academic visit to Assiut University. The visit culminated in the signing of a cooperation protocol between Assiut and Hurghada Universities to enhance academic and research collaboration.

He was received by Dr. Dweib Hussein Saber, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Legal Advisor to the President of Assiut University; Dr. Hammad Mustafa Azab, former Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Mo'amar Rateeb Mohamed, Vice Dean for Community Development and Environmental Affairs; Dr. Ragab Mohamed El-Sayed, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Ahmed Suleiman, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research; and a number of faculty members and administrative staff.

During the visit, the President of Hurghada University toured the Faculty, including the Graduate Studies Library and the lecture hall. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Qader visited the Faculty of Law's Council Hall and Discussion Room, where he took commemorative photos with faculty members and administrative staff to celebrate the college's golden jubilee. He praised the discipline, organization, and development of educational resources and infrastructure he witnessed within the Faculty of Law.

In this context, Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, affirmed the university's commitment to constructive cooperation with sister Egyptian universities, particularly Hurghada University. He noted that this collaboration stems from Assiut University's keenness to exchange academic and research expertise and expand scientific partnerships, which will positively impact the development of the educational and research processes at both universities.

For his part, Dr. Doueib Hussein Saber, Dean of the Faculty of Law, explained that signing this protocol embodies Assiut University's vision of academic openness and strengthening scientific communication with various Egyptian universities. He commended the spirit of cooperation demonstrated by the President of Hurghada University during the visit, emphasizing that the Faculty will continue its efforts to support all initiatives that contribute to the development of legal studies and serve students and academic researchers.
