The seminar was presented by Dr. Ghada Mohamed Said, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, New Valley University.
In his speech, Dr. Magdy Allwan emphasized that the importance of blood donation lies in saving the lives of patients in need of blood transfusions in emergency situations, major surgeries, and chronic diseases such as cancer and HIV, in addition to its health benefits for the donor themselves, such as improving blood circulation, reducing excess iron in the blood, and lowering the risk of heart disease and leukemia. Every drop of blood donated could be a reason to save the life of a person struggling against death. Blood donation costs only a few minutes of time, yet it gives others a chance to live, to hope, and to see a new tomorrow. In a detailed explanation, Dr. Ghada Said pointed out several benefits of blood donation, including improving heart health: donating blood helps reduce excess iron in the body, which decreases the risk of heart disease. Increasing circulatory and bone marrow activity: donation stimulates the bone marrow to produce new blood cells and activates circulation. Health screening: the donor's blood is tested to detect infectious diseases or other health issues, giving the donor an opportunity to discover any illness early. It also helps reduce the risk of certain diseases:Studies have shown that regular blood donation may reduce the risk of circulatory diseases and certain types of cancer, such as liver and colon cancer.
