The mission of the department of rural sociology and agricultural extension is to provide students with theories and knowledge that enable them to understand social phenomena in rural Egypt and to analyze its problems; in addition to train students to become effective agents in the area of human and rural development and agricultural extension activities; and provide students with social research methods that enable them to become unique researchers in this field.

The mission of the Food Science and Technology department as a part of the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, is to provide high-quality education and training for the preparation of qualified graduates and researchers to meet the requirements of the labor market.
The department supports the implementation of the scientific and applied research in the field of food science and nutrition.
Contribution to the community service and environmental development is an integral part of the department mission.
In addition, the production of some food products, provision of excellent training courses and technical consultations, and the application of expertise in the field of food science and technology are expected to contribute to the well-fare of the of general population.
