For the first time in Egyptian universities, the Ministry of Higher Education sponsors a project enabling a team of Assiut University students to produce their first collection of animated medical educational films. Student Abul-Qasim Sami, director of the project and member of the team, indicated that the project won in an MHE competition where 67 particpant projects from nationwide universities were presented.  Abul-Qasem added that  their project took more than 9 months to produce more than 30 educational animated films including 3D and 2D films on various medical subjects such as: Blood Circulation between mother and fetus,  DNA Structures, and Blood clotting process. . . etc. On his part, Abdel Rahman Sanousi, member of the 30-medical-students team, assured that the project aimed at making medical studies easier and more interesting by using modern technology and translating theoretical knowledge into  animated images; a matter that helps both students and faculty members to achieve better understanding and perception.   Dr. Mohamed Maqboul, lecturer in Plastic Surgery and Supervisor of the project pointed out that the benefit of the project will not be confined to students of the Faculty of Medicine, but it will also help students of Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, and Pharmacy. Dr Maqboul added that the project did not only produce animated films, but also it produced more than 20 educational clips showing real and sample surgeries, besides photography of practical samples.

Without using ultrasonic waves, Dr. Hasan L. Fahmy, Professor of ophthalmology, University of Assiut devised a new technique to break up the solid lens in ultrasonic cataract ultrasonic operations depending mainly on the high osmotic pressure within the lens's nucleus. This effort came in an attempt to minimize the complications related to the use of energy of the waves.  Dr. Fahmy has been working for more than a year where found out that injecting a small quantity of salt solution, 0.9% concentration to the center of the lens's nucleus, would fritter the lens's nucleus leading to the fragmentation of the inner hinges of the lens.  Dr. Fahmy explained that this technique has been applied to 20 patients after it has been conducted on experimental animals and proved its effectiveness.   For this technique, Dr. Fahmy won the Best Paper Award in April 2013, in the field of new technologies in the Cataract Annual Global Conference of the American Society for Cataract Surgery in San Francisco in which more than 900 research works were presented. He also applied to the International authorities concerned to obtain a patent for his discovery.  

Scientific counselling and studies center in the faculty of science-Ain Shams university- will hold a training course to prepare specialized cadres to evalute the impact of projects on the enviroment from (24-25) June. The trainees will obtain a certificate. The deadline will be on Saturday 15-6-2013.

A research competition for students entitled "The Students Role in keeping and developing security System in the university". The deadline to deliver these researches will be September 2nd,2013.
