The department presents medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, and design. Medicinal Chemists do not only understand the field of organic chemistry but also a range of other disciplines to anticipate problems and interpret developments to help move the project forward. At AUN, we also offer Master's and doctoral degrees in medicinal chemistry for students who wish to focus on a research career or gain the ultimate academic qualifications. In the Department of Medicinal Chemistry our mission is to; Teach students the principles of the relation between biological activity and molecular structures of medicines. Supply knowledge and suitable practical skills in synthesis and analysis of medicines. Contribute in research subjects related to drug design and development. Contribute in solving certain problems of Research & Development in production and research centers by providing our experts and consultants. Support the needs of other Faculties of Pharmacy local, regional and national and related research centers by graduates, postgraduates and staff members. And in order to achieve this mission, we concentrate our attention on; Preparing graduates with high capabilities in identifying drug groups and their effectiveness. Supplying the pharmaceutical industry with expertise and specialists in the field of drug design and preparation. Conducting academic and applied research and motivating researchers and students to publish in scientific journals with a high impact factor. Developing our staff members in both educational and research fields by encouraging them to participate in local, regional and international conferences and establishing joint scientific cooperation with distinguished universities. Participating with drug production center in research and development field by giving advice or academic practice.

Departments’ goals:

To prepare highly skilled graduate in knowledge of drug products and its efficiency. To meet drug industrial needs, by providing specialists (Pharmacy graduates “bachelorette- Masters’- PhD holders”) in field of design and drug preparation. To do academic and applicable researches, motivating researchers and students on scientific publishing through well-organized workshops and well-equipped laboratories. To work on developing skills of departments’ members in both educational and research fields, by motivating them on participating on local, regional and global conferences and to cooperate scientifically with high universities. To cooperate with drug production centers in fields of research and development, by providing academic consult or practice. Departments’ courses are related to medicinal chemistry, drug discovering and designing, to take advantage from developments as to encourage projects. We as Assiut University provide Master’s and PhD programs in medical chemistry, for students who wants to build a research future or to gain un-limited scientific excellence. We develop basic understanding in the area of pharmaceutical manufacturing and communicate knowledge, ideas, and concerns to the pharmacy students. The department aims to link the basic pharmaceutical sciences and industrial pharmacy information with the practical procedures and techniques, which will help the pharmacy graduates to excel in their profession. To expand the knowledge and foster cooperation between professionals, we are open to inter and intra-departmental, industrial and personal collaborations in research and problem solving.

The department offers a diverse group of comprehensive courses that the students of clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutics programs are privileged to learn The department also plays a crucial role for the postgraduate studies sector through the following: It participates in teaching the diplomas. Master’s degree of pharmaceutics. Doctorate of pharmaceutics. The department has its fair share when it comes to community service and its role is represented in conducting researches to solve the issues of: Drugs manufactural. The efficient delivery of the drugs to the patients. The chronic diseases in Egypt such as HCV.

Vision

The department’s vision is strongly focused on achieving an efficient drug use through graduating competent generations of pharmacists. As well as providing high-level of postgraduates’ study programs, and conducting applied researches to cope with the rapid development of the pharmacy profession. Our ultimate goal is to equip our students with the essential knowledge that is crucial to generate strong professionals in pharmacy. We commit to prepare our students for their chosen career as providers of pharmaceutical care, health promotion, and disease prevention by ensuring that medications are used safely and effectively to improve patients’ quality of lives. We achieve our goal through: *Presenting various courses as; pharmacy orientation, physical pharmacy, pharmaceutical dosage forms, pharmaceutics, kinetics, pharmacy law, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, hospital pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical legislations and cosmetics. Besides 12 or 14 courses of elective courses, for students to choose from. * The department is offering diploma in pharmaceutical technology and clinical pharmacy. We launched this academic year (2022/2023) a new diploma in cosmetics. *Delivering academic programs which help the students perform and accomplish their Masters and Ph.D. Thesis  in pharmaceutics.
