Department of Pharmacology

Department of pharmacology
Overview

The Department of Pharmacology is one of the pre-clinical science departments that form Sciences division and is focused on basic life sciences research, undergraduate teaching of medicine and biomedical sciences students and the training and development of graduate study Pharmacology is the branch of pharmaceutical sciences which is concerned with the study of drug or medication action, where a drug can be broadly or narrowly defined as any man-made, natural, or endogenous (from within the body) molecule which exerts a biochemical or physiological effect on the cell, tissue, organ, or organism (sometimes the word pharmacon is used as a term to encompass these endogenous and exogenous bioactive species). More specifically, it is the study of the interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that affect normal or abnormal biochemical function. If substances have medicinal properties, they are considered pharmaceuticals.

Department vision

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is looking forward to providing updated courses that contain advanced topics that will help the graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy to compete in the international labor market.

Department mission

The mission of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is to provide students with the information, knowledge and skills to deal with various toxins. For this reason, the department devotes its efforts to providing students with experience in the fields of society, hospitals, scientific research, and the pharmaceutical industry, as well as training in health care, in order to prepare a graduate who can practice the profession of pharmacy in Egypt efficiently.

Department of Biochemistry

Department of biochemistry
Overview

In our department you will deal with the structures, functions, and interactions of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids, which provide the structure of cells and perform many of the functions associated with life. As well you will work alongside accomplished faculty committed to helping you master research techniques and develop new science.

Department of Microbiology and Immunology

Department of microbiology and immunology
Overview

Microbiology and Immunology covers all aspects of the interrelationship between infectious agents and their hosts. Among the major topics covered are microbial and viral pathogenesis and the immunological host response to infections. Microbiology and Immunology is a science which deals with microbial pathogens (viruses, mycoplasma, bacteria, and eukaryotic microbes) and the immune surveillance machinery of the host which provide protection against these organisms. This field of science stresses on the challenges posed by pathogens to the host and how they shape the host immune responses. This field deals with disparate study areas such as virology, microbiology, microbial genetics, parasitology, molecular virology, pathogenic bacteriology, immunology, auto-immunity, immunogenetics, disease mechanisms, and cell and molecular biology. This branch of science especially focuses on the mechanisms of gene regulation in microorganisms, cultured cells, and animal models of disease. Our department consists of a vibrant community of faculty, researchers and students. We offer an unparalleled opportunity to perform research in microbiology and immunology with some of the world's leading scientists.

Department of Clinical Pharmacy

Department of clinical Pharmacy
Overview

Mission:

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy mission is to graduate competent and skilled pharmacists as members of the healthcare team for the direct benefits of the patients with the goals of maximizing drug efficacy and minimizing drug untoward effects by ensuring appropriate, safe and cost-effective use of medicines. The department also seeks to promote postgraduate research related to pharmaceutical care, pharmacotherapy, pharmacoeconomics and all clinical aspects of pharmacy practice.

Vision:

The department of Clinical Pharmacy vision is to achieve excellence in pharmacy education, practice and inter-professional experiences to promote healthcare services and improve patient care and public services and as well as conducting innovative clinical research in pharmacy practice at international level.

Objectives:

The department of Clinical Pharmacy aims at providing pharmacy students with fundamental clinical skills and a unique set of knowledge of medical terminology, pathophysiology of diseases and applied therapeutics, clinical skills as well as communication skills to interact with physicians, nurses, patients and family effectively. The department prepares students for career in clinical pharmacy services and stimulates critical-thinking and therapeutic problem-solving when dealing with patients in health care settings.
