Researches

The research plan of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Clinical Toxicology aims to:

  1. Improving the quality of scientific research presented by the faculty members by discussing the research plan in order to know what benefits it can propose before starting the research. Moreover, increasing publishing distinguished and specialized national periodicals.
  2. Rationalizing the spending of the scientific research budget to ensure making the best use of it in the distinguished researches in order to encourage competitiveness.
  3. Giving attention to research and scientific theses that are concerned with environmental problems and community service, in cooperation with various academic and clinical departments such as diagnosing and treating poisoning cases of various kinds (environmental and clinical).

The priority of the scientific missions shall be given to the following areas:

  • Clinical Toxicology
  • Forensic Genetics
  • Postmortem detection and redistribution of Poisons
  • Forensic pathology.
  • Stem cell and tissue culture in Toxicology
  • Genetic Toxicology
  • Experimental toxicology

As for the field of scientific research and theses, the priority is given to the following fields:

  • Forensic Traumatology.
  • Assessment of health hazards of environmental, biochemical, developmental, immunological, genetic and animal poisons.
  • Screening and detection of drugs of abuse.
  • Designing of some new regimens or measures to decrease the effect of toxins (clinical and experimental studies).
  • Studying medical malpractice problems and find preventive measures.
  • Studying the pattern and distribution of some medicolegal community problems such as domestic violence, e.g. child abuse and women abuse), infanticide and sexual crimes.
  • Forensic psychiatry and forensic Odontology.
  • Forensic anthropology, Forensic radiology and Forensic Thanatology.

We aim to maximize the impact of the national and international researches; for example:

  • Adding summaries of the department's thesis and research in the department's library.
  • Serving the community via developing a consultative center to discuss all forensic issues, including issues related to DNA and medical responsibility.
  • Developing a clinical toxicology laboratory and forensic medical chemistry as a prelude to establishing a poison treatment center at Assiut University, such as addiction materials, heavy metals and pesticides.
  • Development of the DNA and diagnostic laboratory.
  • Encouraging students to participate in scientific research in the department for the clinical toxicology laboratory and the DNA laboratory, with updating the curricula for the fourth year.
