 Research

Our research plan for the next five years

First: solving environmental problems:

  • Interstitial pulmonary fibrosis including recent diagnostic tools like transbronchial cryobiopsy and thoracoscopic lung biopsy.
  • Rehabilitation of chronic lung diseases especially COPD and interstitial pulmonary fibrosis with establishment of new unit for this purpose.
  • Lower respiratory tract infections: identification of the causative organisms in our localities and the resistance problems.
  • T.B especially the resistance problem in our locality and the new diagnostic tools.
  • Establishment of the rose technique in our bronchoscopy unit.
  • Researches in asthma and COPD with references to their prevalence and recent therapeutic options.

Second: developing diagnosing tools

  • Interventional pulmonology.
  • Imaging modalities.
  • Pulmonary hypertension.
  • Endoscopic lung volume reduction techniques.
  • Lower respiratory tract infections.
  • Tuberculosis
  • Sleep medicine.

Third: Preparing specialized cadres in the different chest units.

  • The department encourages joint research between the chest department and other clinical and academic departments with different colleges and universities.
  • In the next five-year plan, the Council adopts the research presented by the faculty and supervisors the master's and doctoral theses after presenting the research protocol for each thesis in the scientific session, which is held weekly in the department.
