Effect of Nursing Instructions on Quality of Life for Females Undergoing Abdominoplasty

Research Abstract

The abdominoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgical procedures across the world. Effective postoperative care is crucial for optimal recovery and results. As abdominoplasty techniques continue to advance, they offer significant improvements in both aesthetic appearance and patient satisfaction, contributing to enhanced overall well-being and quality of life.

Aim

To evaluate the effect of nursing instructions on quality of life for females undergoing abdominoplasty.

Design

The design used in the study was quasi-experimental.

Setting

This study was conducted at General Surgical Department and surgical outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospital.

Sample

A purposive sample of 60 females undergoing abdominoplasty, their age ranged from 20 to 60 years and agreed to participate in the study.

Tools

Tool (I): Patients’ assessment sheet, and Tool (II): The World Health Organization Quality of Life- BREF questionnaire.

Results

There was a highly statistically significant difference between study and control groups regarding knowledge scores of patients post one and three months with p-value (0.000). Also, there was a highly statistical significance difference between post one and three months for both groups regarding patients’ quality of life with p-value (0.006, 0.000).

Conclusion

Nursing educational instructions had highly statistically significant positive effect on improving patients’ knowledge and quality of life among the studied females underwent abdominoplasty.

Research Abstract

This research aimed to assess the potential of active food packaging as an innovative approach to enhance the quality of fresh food products. Specifically, our focus was on developing chitosan edible films combined with rosemary nanoemulsion (Ch-RNE) and carvacrol nano-emulsion (Ch-CNE) as effective antibacterial food packaging solutions. The efficacy of these films against artificially inoculated L. monocytogenes (NCTC 13372\ ATCC® 7644) as a Gram-positive bacterium, and S. enterica serovar Typhimurium (ATCC 14028) as a Gram-negative bacterium, in ground meat was investigated. The size of the prepared nano-emulsions was characterized using zeta sizer, FTIR and HRTEM. The MIC of both nano-emulsions against both pathogens was found to be 0.78 % and 1.56 %. Effect of nursing educational protocol on Nurses' Knowledge and Practice regarding Antibiotics Administration and Anaphylaxis Management

Research Abstract

Background: Antibiotic administration can induce a life-threatening condition known as anaphylaxis, so correct administering antibiotics and efficient management of anaphylaxis from nurses is crucial for lifesaving all patients. Aim: Assess the effect of nursing educational protocol on the nurses' knowledge and practice regarding antibiotic administration and anaphylaxis management. Method: Aquasi-experimental research design (pre- and post-test). Setting: The study was conducted in the medical and pediatric departments at Assuit University Hospital. Subjects: 300 nurses employed in the medical and pediatric departments. Tools: (1)a structured questionnaire sheet to assess nurses` knowledge about antibiotic administration and anaphylaxis management (2) Pre/ Post Nurses' practice intradermal (ID ) hypersensitivity skin test. Results: The mean age of the studied nurses was 36.1±7.0 years,82.0% of them were female , and highly statistically significant differences, indicating improvement was founded between nurses` knowledge and practice before and after implementing nursing educational protocol about antibiotic administration and anaphylaxis management (P=0.001***). Conclusion: The application of nursing educational protocols was effective and successfully improved the nurses' knowledge and practice regarding antibiotic administration and anaphylaxis management. Recommendation: Establishing nursing educational protocols in hospitals will improve the nurses' knowledge and practice about how to manage anaphylaxis occurrences.

Effect of Application of Stretching Exercise versus Stretching Exercise and Natural Method on Pain and Functional Disability among Patients with Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Research Abstract

Background: Sacroiliac joint dysfunction frequently contributes to low back pain, causing significant discomfort and functional disability. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of application of stretching exercise versus stretching exercise and natural method on pain and functional disability among patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Methods: Research design: A comparative, non-randomized quasi-experimental design. Setting and sampling: The study was conducted in the orthopedic department and outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospitals, involving 290 non-randomized patients divided into two groups: group A (145 patients) received stretching exercises and natural method (massage with warm coconut oil), while group B (145 patients) performed only stretching exercises. Both groups received illustrated brochures and participated in a six-month intervention. Tools: Patients’ assessment form, numeric pain rating scale, Quebec back pain disability scale and Oswestry disability index. Results: Patients’ ages ranged from 20 to 58 years, with a predominance of females (group A: 73.1%; group B: 71.7%). Although both groups showed significant improvements in pain reduction and functional capacity, group A demonstrated statistically more substantial improvement (p < 0.01) in both pain reduction and functional capacity than group B. Conclusion: Incorporating natural method with stretching exercises may provide superior outcomes in managing pain and functional disability in patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Recommendation: It is recommended to integrate natural methods alongside stretching exercises for managing sacroiliac joint dysfunction, as this combination can enhance pain relief and improve functional capacity.

Effectiveness of A nurse-Led Educational Intervention Program on Symptoms, Quality of Life and Progression of Mineral Bone Disorders among Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease

Research Abstract

 Mineral bone disorders pose significant challenges for patients with end-stage renal disease, contributing to morbidity and mortality. Nurse-led educational intervention program is effective strategy to empower patients in managing disease. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led educational intervention program on symptoms, quality of life and progression of mineral bone disorders among patients with end-stage renal disease. Methods: Research design: A quasi-experimental non-randomized design. Sample and setting: A non-randomized sample of 120 patients with end-stage renal disease (control group = 60 patients, study group = 60 patients) was recruited and followed for 6 months in the hemodialysis unit of the internal medicine department at Assiut University Hospitals. Each patient in the study group received orientation and training from researchers on essential knowledge, and dietary recommendations to reduce phosphate intake, as well as exercises to improve bone health and provided with a handout booklet. Tools: The study utilized a patient assessment sheet, a numeric pain rating scale, and the EuroQol-5 dimension to measure outcomes. Results: The ages of patients in both groups ranged from 20 to 50 years. A nurse-led educational intervention program demonstrated a significant effect (p < 0.01) as regard all outcome measures; reducing symptoms, improving quality of life and limiting disease progression. Conclusion: A nurse-led educational intervention program notably reduced symptoms, enhanced quality of life, and slowed the progression of mineral bone disorders in patients with end-stage renal disease. Recommendation: Implementation of a nurse-led educational intervention program as a strategic approach to improve patient outcomes in managing mineral bone disorders associated with end-stage renal disease.

Effects of Nursing Guidance About Venipuncture Versus Ordinary Syringe, A Comparative Study on Rates of Phlebotomy Hematoma

Research Abstract

Abstracts: Objective: To assess the effects of nursing guidance about Venipuncture versus ordinary syringe, a Comparative Study on Rates of phlebotomy hematoma. Background: In order to reducing the incidence of phlebotomy hematoma, nurses should receive comprehensive training regarding appropriate blood sampling Study design and methods: Pre-posttest, comparative study design using a quasi-experimental design for both groups. Setting: The surgery departments at Assiut University Hospital. Subjects: There were 40 nurses in total coverage, and 100 randomly selected patients underwent blood sample. The nurses and patients were split into two equal groups. Tools: (I): Patients' assessment (personnel and clinical data), (II): Easy hematoma degree classification and (III) Nurses' awareness questionnaire (demographic characteristics, knowledge, and observation checklist). Results: A statistically significant difference the venipuncture and ordinary syringe groups regarding the rates of phlebotomy hematoma (wound quality of life and wound healing) with a significant correlation between them. Moreover, a statistically significant difference between nurses' knowledge and practice of applying the nursing guidance pre- and post-test. Conclusion: The nursing guidance had a beneficial impact on nurses' knowledge and practice, and it improved the rates of phlebotomy hematoma occurrence among patients who underwent venipuncture compared to the other group using an ordinary syringe Implications for research, policy, and practice: Enhance nurses' knowledge and practice, offer ongoing education and in-service training program to the surgery departments. Effect of Educational Program about Biological Therapy on Nurses Performance in Caring of Patient with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and its Activity Grad

Research Abstract

The inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) nurse specialitis plays a key role in the management of IBD patients who undergoing biological therapy. Aim: Assess the effect of educational program about biological therapy on nurses' performance in caring of patient with IBD and its activity grade. Subjects and methods: All nurses (40) in the Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology department and outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospitals, in addition to a sample of 80 IBD patients (forty patient with crohn's disease and another forty patient with ulcerative colitis) who underwent biological therapy, all were assessed before and after the implementation the nursing educational program. Tools: Tool 1: Structured questionnaire to assess nurses` demographic data and knowledge about biological therapy, Tool 2: observation checklist for nurses` practice. Tool3: Patient disease activity scales, and Nursing educational program about biological therapy administration. Results: It found that a highly statistically significant improvement in nurses' knowledge & practice scores after implementing the nursing educational program P<0.001. There was a highly statistically significant difference regarding the IBD activity grade in the studied patients' pre/post program implementation (p< 0.001). Conclusion: The nursing educational program had a highly statistically significant positive effect on nurses' performance and promoting IBD activity grade of patients following the biological therapy administration. Recommendations: Nurses should have a written clinical booklet on safe biological therapy administration is recommended to be established.

Effects of Nursing Program about Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy versus Traditional Wound Dressing, a Comparative assessment on Patients' outcome

Research Abstract

Background: Nurses should have adequate training about appropriate dressing selection to enhance the quality of life for patients with chronic wound. Aim; To assess the effects of Nursing Program about Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy versus Traditional Wound Dressing, on Patients' Outcomes. Method: Design; Quasi-experimental (Preposttest), a comparative research design between both groups. Setting: The trauma departments and outpatients' clinic at Assiut University Hospital. Subjects: Total coverage of nurses (N.= 40) and a randomized 60 patients with (chronic wound), both groups nurses and patients were divided into two equal groups. Tools: (I) Nurses' interview questionnaire (demographic characteristics, knowledge, and observation checklist), (II): Patients' assessment (personnel and clinical data) and (III): Patients' outcomes sheet; Bates-jensen wound assessment scale and WoundQuality of life scale. Results: A statistically significant difference between nurses' knowledge and practice pre and post-test. Also, between the traditional wound dressing and VAC therapy groups regarding their outcomes (wound healing and wound quality of life) with a positive correlation between them. Conclusion: The nursing program had a positive effect on nurses` knowledge, practice and on patients' outcomes who managed with VAC therapy were better than the other group who managed with the traditional wound dressing. Recommendations: Continuous instructions and in-service training programs in the trauma departments to improve nurses' knowledge and practice. Apply VAC therapy in managing chronic wound for a better healing and high quality of life.
