Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy confirms that Assiut University is very interested in providing a safe infrastructure for people with disabilities at Assiut University, through spatial accessibility and supporting equipment, and what it includes ramps, and hand rails to ensure ease of movement within the campus, the preparation of fully equipped toilets for people with disabilities and terraces that conform to the accessibility code, and the preparation of elevators inside the faculties to support ease of mobility, and slope safety barriers to ensure safety and security standards.
Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service Affairs, pointed out that Assiut University always seeks to provide spatial accessibility for its students with disabilities, and that a plan is being developed to follow up on the continuous maintenance of the university's infrastructure and with regard to students with disabilities, and the university intends in the coming period to complete the ramps for people with disabilities in all its main and secondary streets to facilitate our male and female students, and stressed that Assiut University has set indicators for continuous follow-up of the performance of the faculties in their commitment to environmental behaviors Green and Sustainability through the Committee on Environmental Practices and Sustainability (Best Eco-Friendly College), and some indicators related to accessibility for students with disabilities will be added within the follow-up mechanisms. Ms. Amira Al-Rifai, Executive Director of Ataa Fund, gave a presentation that included the nature of the Foundation's work and that it is the first charitable investment fund in Egypt that aims to revive the idea of a charitable investment endowment, by investing funds to ensure the sustainability of financing development and service projects aimed at supporting and empowering people with disabilities, in accordance with the Egyptian capital market legislation and under the supervision of the General Authority for Administrative Control. She explained that the Fund's mission is to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and enable them to enjoy their rights and equal opportunities through three axes Main: Equal educational opportunities, economic empowerment, and community-based rehabilitation.Ms.
Marianne Milad, Head of the Rehabilitation Program for Persons with Disabilities of the Evangelical Authority, pointed out that qualitative interventions have been implemented in a number of faculties of Egyptian universities, and the Authority aims in its upcoming action plan to raise the awareness of workers and students with disabilities on appropriate ways of dealing with the means of spatial accessibility, studying their needs to achieve the principle of equal educational opportunities, and starting to activate workshops and training camps. Mr. Nabil, Director of Central Programs, stressed that Assiut University is one of the universities with real support for its students with disabilities and has a role in providing them with spatial accessibility, whether in its streets or in its teaching halls, pointing out that it is important in the coming period to emphasize the continuous maintenance of spatial accessibility places and the need to train engineers in the engineering department on how to implement constructions according to the design code for people with disabilities and their follow-up mechanisms.
Dr. Mohamed Mustafa, Professor at the Faculty of Education and General Coordinator of the Committee for the Follow-up of Environmental Practices and Sustainability at the Faculties of Assiut University, presented a vision of some places that need to provide spatial accessibility to facilitate students with disabilities, and Eng. Mai Mamdouh at the Engineering Department at Assiut University presented a vision of pedestrian paths for people with disabilities at the university and the suitability of elevators for students with disabilities.
Ms. Nada Mohamed Ibrahim concluded the meeting by presenting the work agenda for the coming period and determining the responsibilities and tasks of the entities involved in achieving the goals of achieving a safe and sustainable environment for students with disabilities at Assiut University.
