Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated on Tuesday, December 23, the activities of the Scientific Day for Assiut University Alumni, held under the title “Assiut University Alumni… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow.” The event was organized by the International Academic Ranking Office in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts, as part of the university’s vision to strengthen sustainable engagement with its alumni and benefit from their accumulated professional and academic expertise.
Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the Scientific Day reflects Assiut University’s commitment to maintaining strong and lasting ties with its graduates, whom the university considers one of its most important academic and societal pillars, as well as genuine partners in the national development process and distinguished role models in human capacity building.
He noted that Assiut University takes great pride in its alumni as the outcome of a long-standing educational and scholarly endeavor, stressing their role in representing the university’s standing and leadership in preparing qualified cadres capable of contributing effectively across diverse professional fields.
The President of Assiut University added that the Scientific Day highlights the importance of linking alumni’s accumulated practical experience with the educational process, providing a platform for exchanging successful experiences that inspire students, foster excellence and innovation, and better prepare graduates for the evolving demands of the labor market.
Professor El-Minshawy further explained that activating alumni engagement constitutes a key pillar in enhancing Assiut University’s position in international academic rankings, particularly the QS Stars ranking, as graduate quality and sustained affiliation with their alma mater directly contribute to strengthening the university’s academic and institutional reputation at both regional and international levels.
In a related context, Professor El-Minshawy extended his congratulations to the Assiut University community on the university’s advancement by 12 positions in the 2025 Arab University Rankings, achieving 17th place regionally and fourth nationally, a reflection of the success of the university’s integrated education and research systems. He affirmed that this achievement serves as a strong incentive to continue pursuing excellence and reinforcing the university’s regional and international standing.
The Scientific Day was held under the supervision and attendance of Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Omar Mamdouh Shaaban, Director of the International Ranking Office; Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Rapporteur of the Scientific Day; Professor Amr Abu Fadan, Deputy Director of the International Academic Ranking Office; and Dr. Yomna Mohamed Atef, Scientific Day Coordinator.
The event witnessed the participation of a number of deans and vice deans, advisors to the University President, faculty members, a large number of students and alumni, as well as a distinguished group of prominent Assiut University graduates and academic figures.
In a gesture of appreciation for Assiut University’s national and academic role, Mr. Adel El-Saadawy, Chairman and Managing Director of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing, presented the Dar Al-Tahrir Shield to Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, along with the first printed issue of Al-Gomhuria newspaper, published in December 1953. The newspaper was established following the July Revolution to serve as its voice and was supervised by the late President Anwar El-Sadat.
The Scientific Day also featured the participation of several distinguished alumni and academic figures, including Ms. Ola Lawrence, Advisor to the Egyptian Knowledge Bank; Dr. Ahmed Yehia Rashed, Professor of Architecture and President of the Civilization Rights Institute (CRI), USA; Dr. Ehab Mamdouh, Founder and CEO of Nexus Pharma Solutions LLC, USA; Professor Nasr El-Din Mohamed, Head of the Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery, Germany; Mr. Adel El-Saadawy, Chairman of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing (Al-Gomhuria); and Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, Director of the Medical Nanotechnology Research Unit at Delta University.
Professor Gamal Badr praised the organization of the Scientific Day, noting the university’s keenness to highlight distinguished alumni across scientific and professional fields, thereby facilitating knowledge transfer and motivating students to innovate and pursue successful career paths.
For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy stated that the event aligns with the university’s ongoing support for its alumni and efforts to strengthen their connection with the university community. He highlighted Assiut University’s focus on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, keeping pace with modern educational trends through entrepreneurship clubs, expansion in emerging fields such as cybersecurity and data science, advanced engineering disciplines, and the introduction of new academic programs to support sustainable development and human capacity building.
Professor Omar Mamdouh Shaaban noted that this year’s Scientific Day has a distinctive character, as it sheds light on alumni achievements across various professional and academic domains. He emphasized that alumni represent one of the most significant indicators of institutional strength, and their presence in influential positions positively impacts the university’s reputation and supports international academic ranking criteria.
In recognition of distinguished alumni, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy honored Ms. Ola Lawrence, Dr. Ahmed Yehia Rashed, Mr. Ehab Mamdouh, Dr. Nasr El-Din Mohamed, Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, and Mr. Adel El-Saadawy.
The Scientific Day included a panel discussion titled “Assiut University Alumni… Yesterday’s Experiences Shape Tomorrow,” moderated by Professor Amr Abu Fadan and Dr. Yomna Mohamed Atef, with participation from the honored alumni. The discussion addressed professional journeys, success pathways, and mechanisms for leveraging alumni expertise to support current students and recent graduates and strengthen their linkage to the labor market locally and internationally.
The dialogue also explored alumni attachment to Assiut University, the university’s role in shaping their professional and personal awareness, and its contribution to developing their skills and values of commitment and belonging. Participants highlighted the impact of faculty members and student activities in building leadership, teamwork skills, and self-confidence, delivering motivational messages encouraging students to believe in their abilities and continuously develop themselves.
The event further featured a second session comprising two lectures. The first, titled “QS Stars,” was delivered by Dr. Tarek El-Kholy, addressing recent developments in global university rankings and evaluation criteria. The second lecture, titled “Assiut University’s Efforts in Alumni Engagement and Their Relation to Academic Rankings,” was presented by Dr. Omar Mamdouh Shaaban, outlining the university’s initiatives to enhance alumni engagement and leverage these efforts to strengthen institutional reputation and international ranking performance.
At the conclusion of the Scientific Day, Mohamed Helmy El-Hifnawy reviewed the key recommendations emerging from the sessions, emphasizing the university’s commitment to translating them into effective implementation mechanisms to further develop graduate preparation systems and enhance competitiveness at the local and international levels.
Key recommendations included strengthening continuous engagement with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and maximizing its resources through a series of skills-development training programs, particularly in artificial intelligence and modern technologies, in line with rapid global developments and labor market needs. Participants also stressed the importance of addressing students’ psychological well-being and personality development through specialized psychology courses for final-year students, focusing on self-awareness, priority setting, and resilience, to prepare well-balanced graduates capable of confidently meeting future challenges.
